This is the inaugural article within a series on German Dividend Champions. These are great dividend investments in German stocks which are currently undervalued and offer significant upside potential. Compared to US stocks like PG or JNJ even the German heavyweights have less impressive and long-reaching dividend track records. That’s why I regularly will only refer to historic data beginning in 2000. This first part covers BASF which is only tradable as ADR on US stock exchanges BASF SE ADR (OTCQX:BASFY).

All values in the article are in EUR and stock data refers to BASF stock traded on Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, TheStreet will drop a podcast with Carnival Corp. (CCL) CEO Arnold Donald this weekend. Donald and I talked Wednesday afternoon about his rise to the top gig at Carnival and overall cruise line industry trends. Similar to what I learned from talking to Norwegisn Cruise Line (NCLH) CEO Frank Del Rio last week, I came away thinking Carnival is also undervalued here (stock is down 5% this year). While there are a good number of new ships hitting waters in 2019 and beyond, the consumer demand is such that more ships are warranted. Risks: surging oil prices (it takes a lot of fuel to run a cruise ship) and a recession (meaning somewhat empty new ships).

Carnival (NYSE:CCL) recently announced earnings results for its fiscal third quarter, which includes some of its strongest sales months of the year. The leading cruise ship operator outpaced management’s growth targets for the third straight quarter while posting modest profit gains. Its outlook predicted a slight slowdown in vacation traffic growth, though, as the company works to find and maintain the ideal balance between demand and supply.

Top Undervalued Stocks To Own Right Now: Panasonic Corporation (PCRFY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

The production issue for batteries may improve with added input from partner Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY). They currently produce battery cells for Tesla in Nevada, and in Japan. At their recent earnings call CEO Kazuhiro Tsuga said they were looking at manufacturing battery cells at a new plant in China in conjunction with Tesla. They also predicted their automation energy business profit would double this year. This can be seen as a vote of confidence in Tesla and a bullish sign for Tesla stock. However, according to reports in the Nikkei Asian Review, there is as yet no definite commitment for a joint venture in China. Panasonic is the world’s largest battery supplier for EV’s.

Panasonic (OTCMKTS:PCRFY) was downgraded by equities researchers at ValuEngine from a “sell” rating to a “strong sell” rating in a research note issued to investors on Thursday.
