Top Performing Stocks To Own For 2018

In today’s market, Square Inc (NYSE:SQ) is an anomaly: a technology firm that’s performing very well. On a year-to-date basis, Square stock is up nearly 42%, a resounding triumph amid a sea of disappointment. In contrast, competitors in the payment apps industry, such as Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), are decidedly muted.

Naturally, investors wonder if such momentum can last. I’m cautiously optimistic that it will. Unlike Apple, which has multiple and disparate businesses, SQ stock is a substantially more focused investment. And while PayPal is the dominant player in the online payment app arena, Square has the edge in providing a comprehensive solution for small businesses.

Of course, I don’t want to discount the pain in the broader markets, which has negatively impacted Square stock. For instance, the entire tech sector softened from mid-March due to several pessimistic catalysts, most notably the Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Uber driverless technology controversies. In Square’s case, shares are down nearly 15% since the March 20 close.

Top Performing Stocks To Own For 2018: SolarWindow Technologies, Inc. (WNDW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

SolarWindow Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB:WNDW) is another third-party currently engaged in research and development to incorporate one of GLW’s glass products in an innovative manner. WNDW, a leading developer of transparent electricity-generating coatings for glass windows and flexible veneers, announced its plan to develop electricity-generating flexible glass. In particular, WNDW’s scientists and engineers recently applied layers of its liquid coatings onto GLW’s Willow Glass and laminated them under conditions that simulate the high pressure and temperatures of the manufacturing processes used by commercial glass and window producers. The result was a bendable glass “veneer” which generates electricity. WNDW anticipates installing these sheets of electricity-generating glass veneers over existing office tower windows, turning buildings into vertical power generators and helping decrease their carbon footprint. The company also believes that such veneers could be applied to flat and curved surfaces on automobiles, trucks, buses, airplanes, and boats to generate onboard electrical power. WNDW’s veneer products are being developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory in an effort to commercialize WNDW’s products. While we saw no specific timeline for when WNDW would offer its products incorporating Willow Glass, we are once again excited by this innovative use of a GLW product.

Top Performing Stocks To Own For 2018: Mitsubishi Corporation (MSBHY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Japanese trading company Itochu (OTCPK:ITOCY) has a tough act to follow – its own meaningful improvement over the past five years. The company was more willing than most of its Japanese trading peers to deemphasize commodity/resource businesses, and it moved fairly quickly here, building up non-resource businesses like its food, machinery, and finance operations. Those moves have led to better ROE and cash flow margin performance versus its peers, and Itochu shares have done well relative to peers like Mitsui (OTCPK:MITSY), Mitsubishi (OTCPK:MSBHY), Marubeni (OTCPK:MARUY), and Sumitomo (OTCPK:SSUMY) over that time.

    Mitsubishi (OTCPK:MSBHY)

Earlier in 2016, Mitsubishi released its 2017 i-MiEV. It is fully electric, with a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a range of 62 miles. Basically just a short trips car, as the range is really very low. Mitsubishi also has its popular plug in hybrid Outlander model that sells quite well. As stated last month, the company announced “plans to launch a compact EV with 250-mile range by 2020”. Mitsubishi is currently ranked 7th in global EV sales.
