Top 5 Dividend Stocks To Buy For 2019

Investors shrugged their shoulders at the Fed’s slightly more hawkish outlook on future rate hikes this week after positive news from the ECB and great macroeconomic data in the U.S. underscored the strength of the global economy. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq index continues to sit near all-time highs, suggesting tech stocks are once again helping push markets upward. A great first quarter earnings season for the sector was met with lukewarm reactions, but volatility has eased and tech companies are all the rage once again. We are now in a quiet stretch for earnings reports, but investors can still use the Zacks Earnings Calendar to prepare for important dates from companies with abnormal fiscal periods. The calendar includes earnings, dividend announcements, and other important financial releases, making it the perfect one-stop-shop to properly prepare for the market events that will have an impact on your own portfolio.

Top 5 Dividend Stocks To Buy For 2019: S&P GSCI(GD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE: GD) dropped about 2.1% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $187.32. Shares closed at $191.40 on Wednesday and the stock’s 52-week high is $230.00. Volume was 25% higher than the daily average of around 1.6 million. The defense giant had no specific news.

For investors looking to put new money to work in a defense prime today, I’d recommend General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) over either Raytheon or Northrop Grumman. General Dynamics currently trades at a 20% discount to its rivals on a price-to-earnings basis and at a 13% discount on a price-to-sales basis due to continued weakness in its business jet division. There’s more risk to General Dynamics, but there is also more potential upside should it get its aerospace business on track and close that valuation gap.

Shares of engine maker Cummins (NYSE:CMI) rose a heartening 10% in January, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. That was roughly 2 percentage points better than the S&P 500 index, which was only up around 8% in the opening month of 2019. However, that’s not nearly enough to make up for Cummins’ steep 24% price drop in 2018, a year in which the S&P only fell around 6%. Clearly, there’s some backstory here.

Three Stocks to Watch Today: TSLA, AAPL, EL
