Shares of Morgan Stanley (MS) are lower this morning despite earnings that JMP’s Devin Ryan calls “solid.” He explains:
First look: solid 1Q16 results for Morgan Stanley when considering the backdrop; reiterate our Market Outperform rating and $36 price target. Morgan Stanley reported 1Q16 EPS of $0.55, well ahead of consensus of $0.46 and our estimate of $0.42. The outperformance came on both revenues (3% above) and expenses (2% below) in what was a pretty clean quarter, in our view. With respect to revenues, Institutional Securities were 7.5% above our estimate, primarily driven by better FIC trading (still down 54% YOY, but outperformed recent commentary from management, which potentially suggests a better revenue backdrop into quarter end). Investment Management revenues were also a bit better, offset by slightly softer GWM revenues as commissions appeared impacted by more muted retail engagement and three fewer trading days than the December quarter. Expenses outperformed across the board with a slightly lower comp ratio of 47.3% (vs. our 48% estimate) while non-comps were 7.5% below. Expenses appear clean in the quarter with little litigation impact. In aggregate, while the bar was lowered throughout the quarter, we are pleased with the result amidst the challenging operating backdrop…We will revisit our estimates following managements call, but reiterate our Market Outperform rating and $36 price target. Our price target assumes that the company will trade at ~0.95x our forward book value estimate (~10.5x forward earnings one year from now), which we believe is justified given our ~9% 2017 ROE estimate.

Top 10 Stocks To Own Right Now: BYD Company Limited (BYDDY)
- [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]
Some already had their autonomous car bets made with positions in both Tesla and Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) surmising those will be the big winners. They have good company. Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research summed up his thesis for autonomous transportation and transportation in general going forward as Winners: Tesla, Nvidia; and Losers: Mobileye (NYSE:MBLY) and all traditional automakers. All traditional automakers? That’s basically every automaker on the planet besides Tesla and maybe Fisker and BYD (OTCPK:BYDDY), that’s a lot of losers. Trip is a talented analyst. I’ve followed him for many years (see his ranking on TipRanks here). Even for him, that’s a pretty bold statement. It got me thinking, is Tesla’s lead in the race for autonomous cars so great that the race is effectively over? I wanted to find out if I was using traditional methodologies too much, overthinking my picks and missing out on the bigger winner, Tesla.

In this video I analyze BYD ltd. (OTCPK:BYDDY) (OTCPK:BYDDF) to see whether it is a great long-term investment opportunity given it is probable that China switches completely to electric vehicles by 2030. Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. That slump came despite OPEC’s best efforts since producing nations have achieved fairly good compliance on their planned output cuts. That said, despite the lackluster oil market, we still see some interestingopportunities in the oil market. Three stocks we really like right now are DistributionNOW(NYSE:DNOW),Phillips 66(NYSE:PSX), andConocoPhillips(NYSE:COP), which all should do well in the current oil market.
