Top Stocks To Watch For 2018: Spark Therapeutics, Inc.(ONCE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Robertson]

On Wednesday, our Elite Opportunity Pronewsletter suggested going long again on small cap gene therapy stock Spark Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ONCE):

Financially, Spark Therapeutics has over $300M in cash on the books and no debt to speak of yet, which equates to a share price of just over four times cash. The Company has generated over $20M in revenue for the trailing twelve months, and although the Company is expected to continue to lose money for the next few years, any strong clinical data that hits the tape could rocket shares of ONCE overnight, just like we’ve seen with so many others over the years.

Shares of Spark Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ONCE) were down 36 percent to $47.08 on preliminary SPK-8011 trial data.

Athenex Inc (NASDAQ: ATNX) was down, falling around 13 percent to $13.95. Almirall and Athenex reported a strategic partnership to develop and commercialize KX2-391 in the U.S. and Europe.

Top Stocks To Watch For 2018: VistaGen Therapeutics, Inc. (VTGN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Four ideas turned up in this screen that might be of interest (prices as of February 9th close):

Heron Therapeutics (NASDAQ:HRTX) by ONeil Trader – published February 3rd, 2017, $525M Market cap, down ~2% since publication, author’s price target offers 130% upside. HRTX isn’t a generic drug provider, but its CINV franchise vs. the growth of a new drug gives it a similar sort of profile, and arguably a favorable risk/reward; commenters were mostly positive on the thesis. VistaGen Therapeutics (OTC:VTGN) by Logical Assessment – published July 29, 2016, $24M market cap, down 16% since publication, author’s price target offers 100%+ upside. This is obviously deeper into the speculative pile, but if the author’s thesis holds about VistaGen’s unique angle in the antidepressant drug space, comparable deals suggest good upside. (Of course, it’s always dangerous to rely solely on comparables). Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (NYSE:RDY) by Buddy Lyons – published July 5, 2016, $7.6B market cap, down ~13% since publication, author’s price target offers just shy of 100% upside. Dr. Reddy’s is a more obvious comparable to TEVA, with a generics business but also a manufacturing business and a proprietary products branch. The company bought a divestiture package of drugs from TEVA as part of the Allergan/Actavis deal. A big overhang was an FDA warning letter; the FDA is due to reinspect facilities this month or next, which could resolve that one way or another. Lannett (NYSEMKT:LCI) by Lateral Capital Management – published May 27, 2016, $750M market cap, down ~9% since publication, author’s price target offers 75% upside. LCI’s trading had been 90% correlated with Valeant, but Lateral Capital Management argues that the correlation is unjustified. The article does a deep dive into the company’s valuation and credit risk, and was well received at the time, even if the market hasn’t agreed…yet.

Friday was a good day on Wall Street, as the stock market responded favorably to encouraging news on the employment front. The U.S. unemployment rate dropped on fairly strong job creation during the month of February, and that helped push the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite to modest gains of roughly between a quarter percent and a half percent. Yet even with a positive mood among market participants, some stocks weren’t able to participate in the end-of-week rally. Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Own For 2018

Some investors are ready to write the obituary for the market phenomenon known as risk on, risk off. Long-suffering stock pickers might be tempted to do some grave dancing.

Risk on, risk off, known by the unfortunate acronym, RORO, was a dominant feature of financial markets in the aftermath of the 2008-2009 crisis. It meant that assets perceived as risky, such as stocks, commodities, and nongovernment bonds, tended to either rally or sell off in lockstep. Assets perceived as safe tended to do the same, but in the opposite direction.

Top Casino Stocks To Buy For 2018

Late last year, Japan legalized casinos in the country, opening up a gaming industry that could generate as much as $30 billion a year in revenues and become the second-largest casino market in the world. As several players scout for licenses, Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) is ready to invest heavily in the region, committing to an initial investment of $10 billion. While this is a significant number, if Las Vegas Sands is able to capture a decent share in the market, it would make sense given the revenue potential of the market. Currently, Macau and Singapore are the largest value drivers of the company, together accounting for more than 80% of its valuation.

The company is heavily dependent on Macau for revenues, and regulation changes in the region have impacted it negatively. At its peak in 2013, Macau’s gaming market had reached a size of $45 billion. However, after stricter regulations imposed by Chinese regulators, revenues started slumping. In 2016, the total amount won by casinos in the region stood at nearly $28 billion. Japan is likely to emerge as a huge market for casinos, with annual revenue estimates ranging from $10 billion to $30 billion.

This article is for those who are hopeful of the long-term view and want to get in ahead of time. This article will compare the three front-runners of the Canadian cannabis industry, Canopy Growth Corp. (OTCPK:TWMJF), Aphria (NYSE:APH), and Aurora (OTCQX:ACBFF). Although these companies will soon have to prove themselves in a new environment, there is plenty to study right now. We will be comparing revenue growth, production capacity, valuations, and then making financial projections. The result will be a recommendation of Aurora followed by Canopy. Again this article is meant to compare competitors. The industry has the potential to be a 22.6B industry but the thesis for investing in Canadian cannabis is a separate topic and I encourage you to consider the risks.

CANOPY GROWTH CORP COM NPV (OTC: TWMJF) lost 4.71 percent, AURORA CANNABIS IN COM NPV (OTC: ACBFF) slipped 2.93 percent, APHRIA INC COM NPV (OTC: APHQF) dropped 1.01 percent, and MassRoots Inc (OTC: MSRT) plummeted an astounding 9.00 percent.

This rapid growth in legal pot has create quite the demand for marijuana stocks. The seven largest marijuana stocks by market cap have all put on a show over the past couple of years. Here are those seven “green giants” listed with their market caps as of March 17, 2017, along with their trailing one-year total returns.

    GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GWPH): $3.0 billion, up 64% Canopy Growth Corp. (NASDAQOTH:TWMJF): $904 million, up 259% Aphria (NASDAQOTH:APHQF) $440 million, up 381% Aurora Cannabis (NASDAQOTH:ACBFF): $482 million, up 299% AXIM Biotechnologies (NASDAQOTH:AXIM): $562 million, up 1,720% Corbus Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:CRBP): $450 million, up 431% Medical Marijuana (NASDAQOTH:MJNA): $221 million, up 254%

As you can see, these are some hefty valuations — and some exceptionally strong moves higher on the heels of marijuana’s expansion. With the exception of GW Pharmaceuticals, every one of the largest marijuana stocks has at least tripled in value over the trailing 12 months, with cannabinoid-based drug developer AXIM Biotechnologies skyrocketing more than 1,700%!

holiday exchange: Baker Hughes Incorporated(BHI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Among the year-end numbers, there isn’t that much that pops out as extraordinary. Halliburton ended 2016 with a $6.69 per-share loss. Much of that loss, though, was the $7.4 billion in charges related to asset impairments, goodwill writedowns, and the $4.06 billion it had to charge for the termination of the merger with Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHI). So when looking at the company’s year-end results, do keep in mind that those are heavily skewed by one-time items that probably won’t have much of a material impact on the business in the coming year. Looking at operational income, we see that international markets held up rather well throughout the year, while the North American market suffered.

Since the moment it was announced, we’ve been highly bullish on the complicated-but-intriguing deal that would combine the oilfield services unit of General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) and all of sector rival Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI).

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Evercore ISI’s James West and team are starting to feel really good about the potential of the General Electric (GE)-Baker Hughes (BHI) merger. They explain why:

  • [By Arie Goren]

The Oil and gas business represents a significant part of GE’s operations. Oil and gas segment revenues of $9.5 billion accounted for 10.5% of the company’s total revenues in the first nine months of 2016. In the same period in 2015, the segment’s revenues were much higher at $12.1 billion, 14.5% of GE’s total revenues for that period. In one of my previous articles about GE, I suggested that GE’s decision to combine its oil and gas business with one of the world’s leading oilfield services companies Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHI)is a smart move. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil price has climbed 20% from the beginning of 2016 to $55.45 per barrel, and WTI crude oil price has increased 17.5% to $52.37 per barrel in the same period. As such, the U.S. rig count has started to recover, and oil and gas producers have begun to increase their capital spending. According to Baker Hughes, the average U.S. rig count for December 2016 increased by 54 from the prior month to 634 rigs. This development will benefit GE in the current quarter and much more after the merger with Baker Hughes.

Pension funds are in the news again… and the news isn’t very good. Many plans are underfunded, which means they don’t have enough money to pay the benefits they’ve promised.

Among those many underfunded plans are funds managed by the city of Chicago, which were recently blocked by a court ruling that prevents the fund from reducing benefits. That means the city will need to find other ways to reduce its shortfall.

But Chicago is not alone in its pension problems. Experts estimate pension funds across the country — both government-run plans and corporate plans run by large companies — are underfunded by trillions of dollars. That’s bad news for the plan participants.

It’s safe to assume the experts’ original assumptions for these plans were overly optimistic. And in order to keep the promises these funds made to the hardworking men and women who paid into the plan so many years ago, the plan managers have two choices:

swing trading: Terra Nitrogen Company L.P.(TNH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Robert Rapier] While the MLP space is dominated by the oil and gas sector, in last week’s article we began to explore some of the more exotic master limited partnership offerings. This week we continue our exploration of nontraditional MLPs by looking at the partnerships supplying fertilizer.

Rentech (Nasdaq: RTK) has been around for more than a decade, and it has shifted strategies several times. Full disclosure: Rentech’s Chief Technology Officer Harold Wright is a former manager of mine when we were both at ConocoPhillips, and I have visited Rentech’s facility in Commerce City, Colorado.

For most of Rentech’s existence, the company has sought to commercialize alternative fuels. At one time it had ambitions to build a large coal-to-liquids (CTL) plant, but federal legislation ultimately nudged it instead into the biomass-to-liquids (BTL) space. The company did build a BTL demonstration plant, but ultimately shut it down and has now refocused its efforts on becoming “one of the largest wood processing companies in the world.”

During its interesting journey as a company, Rentech acquired two ammonia nitrogen fertilizer facilities, which turned out to be a profit center that funded the alternative energy research. In November 2011, Rentech spun off this fertilizer business into an MLP called Rentech Nitrogen Partners LP (NYSE: RNF).

In the months leading to the spin-off, RTK’s market capitalization was about $200 million. Rentech maintained 60 percent ownership of RNF, and three months after the spin-off RTK’s market cap had risen to $400 million, while investors had bid RNF up to $1 billion. Interestingly, RTK’s share of RNF was worth more than RTK’s entire market cap, a situation that persists. The market currently values Rentech at $482 million, while the valuation of Rentech Nitrogen Partners makes RTK’s 60 percent stake in RNF worth slightly more than $600 million — another illu
