Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now

What happened

Shares of Monster Beverage (NASDAQ:MNST) jumped as much as 6.8% higher on Wednesday following the energy drink maker’s renewal and increase of an exhausted share buyback policy. As of 1:50 p.m. EDT, the stock had settled down to a 5.8% gain.

So what

Having used up the old $250 million share repurchase authorization, Monster’s board of directors doubled up with a new $500 million policy. The previous buyback program was announced as recently as March 1, 2018. Looking one step further back, another $500 million plan was launched in 2015 and lasted all the way up to this spring.

Now what

If Monster immediately used up the new buyback program, the $500 million action would only retire roughly 2% of the company’s outstanding stock. The market reaction today is about three times larger because Monster’s leadership is signaling a firm conviction that its stock is undervalued and a great investment at current prices. Therefore, a rapid buyback program is seen as a good use of the company’s own cash.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Devon Energy Corporation(DVN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

While production problems at the end of 2017 caused Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) to miss the mark in the fourth quarter, the company quickly turned things around in 2018. Because of that, CEO Dave Hager is very optimistic about this year, which was evident in his comments on the accompanying conference call where he had four key messages for investors.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Those buyback-driven gains suggest that companies that follow this strategy could replicate this outperformance. While several oil companies are buying back their shares this year, two oil stocks with the greatest potential for a big-time buyback-fueled rally in the coming months are Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) and QEP Resources (NYSE:QEP).

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

While Devon Energy’s (NYSE:DVN) drilling machine hit a bit of a speed bump during the third quarter due to some maintenance issues, the company didn’t expect those problems to continue during 2018’s final period. That’s one of a few things investors should review when the company reports its fourth-quarter results this week.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Sociedad Quimica y Minera S.A.(SQM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Beth McKenna]

Now that the three big lithium companies that trade on a major U.S. stock exchange — Albemarle (NYSE:ALB), Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (NYSE:SQM), or SQM, and FMC Corp. (NYSE:FMC). — have reported their first-quarter 2018 results, we’re going to compare how their respective lithium businesses performed.

  • [By Jim Robertson]

On Monday, Reuters reported that China’s Tianqi Lithium Corp is looking to raise up to $1 billion in a Hong Kong stock market flotation after filing a draft prospectus with the exchange. Based in China’s province of Sichuan, Tianqi Lithium Corp is the world’s second-largest lithium producer by sales and is building the world’s biggest lithium processor in Western Australia. In May, the Company announced a blockbuster $4.1 billion deal to buy a 24% stake in Chile’s Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (NYSE: SQM), the world’s No.2 lithium miner, with the majority of future listing proceeds to be used for refinancing this deal (note that the sale has not yet been approved by Chile’s antitrust regulator).

  • [By Jim Robertson]

It should be noted that FMC Corp together with Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB) and Chile’s Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (NYSE: SQM) form a so-called “lithium oligopoly” that tends to dominate global production. A recent Bloomberg article noted that Albemarle Chief Executive Officer Luke Kissam had said in March that he’s also eager to see how the value settles for the FMC lithium spinoff. If the price-to-earnings ratio is high enough, then they would look to create a pure-play lithium business by selling off non-lithium units. If FMC Corp and Albemarle Corporation do end up completing these spin-offs, that will be good news for the valuations of all lithium players as the market will put clear valuation numbers on these larger pure play lithium businesses which will help provide valuation benchmarks for other small cap lithium players.

  • [By Beth McKenna]

China’s Tianqi Lithium Corp. has struck a deal to buy a 24% stake in Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (NYSE:SQM), or SQM, for $4.07 billion, the companies involved said on Thursday.

  • [By Beth McKenna]

While FMC’s lithium business is only a small part of its total business, it’s quite large relative to other industry players. Most industry experts peg the company as the fourth or fifth largest producer of lithium in the world, behind Albemarle (NYSE:ALB) and Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile, or SQM (NYSE:SQM)– both of which also have businesses other than lithium — and China’s Ganfeng. China’s Tianqi was neck and neck with FMC for No. 4, according to an estimate from a few years ago by lithium expert Joe Lowry, who runs Global Lithium LLC.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now

Our Top Pick for conservative investors for the coming year is a company that went through a management overhaul in 2015, leaving investors uncertain about the company’s future, observes Crista Huff, editor of Cabot Undervalued Stocks Advisor.

Mattel (MAT) markets toys globally under the brand names Mattel, Fisher-Price, RoseArt, Barbie, AmericanGirl and many more, including strategic relationships with Disney (DIS), Google (GOOGL) and YouTube.

As a result of its prior overhaul, the stock got left in the dust. Consumer goods stocks were additionally tossed aside during the post-election stock market run-up.

That gives investors a buying opportunity in the sector’s undervalued growth stocks, including MAT.

Mattel’s earnings per share, which will finish 2016 with weak 1-2% growth (December year-end), are expected to grow 38% in 2017!

This mid-cap stock’s 2017 price/earnings ratio is 16, and the dividend yield is a huge 5.4%. Mattel typically increases the dividend about once per year.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: CytRx Corporation(CYTR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 biotechnology player that’s starting to trend within range of triggering a major breakout trade is CytRx (CYTR), which has an oncology pipeline that includes two programs in clinical development for cancer indications: aldoxorubicin and tamibarotene. This stock has been moving to the upside during the last three months, with shares up by 21%.

If you take a look at the chart for CytRx, you’ll notice that this stock has been trending sideways inside of a consolidation chart pattern for the last two months, with shares moving between $2.27 on the downside and $2.68 on the upside. That consolidation pattern has occurred right above this stock’s 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Shares of CYTR have now started to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at $2.49 a share. That move is quickly pushing CYTR within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in CYTR if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.68 to $2.80 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average action of 154,838 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then CYTR will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $3.20 to $4 a share.

Traders can look to buy CYTR off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 200-day at $2.33 a share or below more support at $2.27 a share. One can also buy CYTR off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Ambarella, Inc.(AMBA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

Ambarella (NASDAQ:AMBA) wasn’t as scintillating as NVIDIA last year, merely marching in place. However, the provider of video compression and image processing semiconductors has seen its stock pop ninefold since going public at $6 five years ago.

  • [By Peter Graham]

Ambarella, Inc. (AMBA) has been all over the map over the last few years. It has defied gravity both to the up and to the downside, and although today’s suggested short of the stock is strictly technical, we do believe its current share price has once again gotten a little out of line when you compare it to the rest of the markets’ valuation metrics right now.

Can Q3 earnings lift Ambarella Inc (NASDAQ:AMBA) stock?

Shares of semiconductor design company Ambarella Inc (NASDAQ:AMBA) are sliding down ahead of earnings, closing in the red for consecutive three straight trading sessions. The company whose technology is behind the low power, high-definition and ultra HD video compression and image processing products,is scheduled to report its fiscal 2018 third-quarter earnings today after the closing bell. AMBA stock has not gone anywhere since its last earnings release and is almost flat but it is losing momentumgoing into earnings, down nearly 7% in the last 5 trading days. This brings us to the question, can earnings lift Ambarella stock? The technical setup has also turned little bearish recently. Will earnings help stem the downtrend in Ambarella stock? Well, first, let’s take a look at the analyst estimates.

  • [By Leo Sun]

Chipmaker Ambarella (NASDAQ:AMBA) produces image processing SoCs (systems on chips) for a wide range of products, including action cameras, dash cams, drones, security cameras, and augmented reality glasses. But it generates most of its direct OEM revenue from one customer — action camera maker GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO).

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated(COKE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Douglas A. McIntyre]

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. (NYSE: COKE) had a revenue increase to $2.3 billion in its most recentfiscal year, from $1.7 billion in the previous one. It is moving into Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and West Virginia, which almost certainly will require capital. Its net sales rose 37% in the most recent quarter to $840 million. Management stated this was because of “Organic growth in the legacy territories as well as territory expansion through the acquisition of several new distribution territories from Coca-Cola led to the solid performance.” The current dividend is $1, or 0.66%.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Panasonic Corporation (PCRFY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

SMMYY is a subsidiary of the Sumitomo Group. SMMYY is a major smelter and refiner of copper, nickel and gold in Japan, and has a 27.5% stake in the Ambatovy Nickel Project in Madagascar, along with Sherritt International and Korea Resources Corp. Feedstock for the refinery is nickel cobalt mixed sulphide from its Taganito and Coral Bay mines in the Philippines (noting the Philippines is a risky supply source at this time). Sumitomo supply Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY) who supply Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA); however, this can change. Generally, I like the stock; however, at this time, valuation looks full, trading on a 2017 PE of 32.8, and 2018 PE of 14.8. Good to buy after a pullback if that occurs.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Clean Technica reported on September 1 that “Sony is entering the EV battery manufacturing industry”. And “considering that electric vehicle batteries are going to be the main supply bottleneck for the upcoming auto market’s embrace of EVs, the entry of Sony into the field is very notable. Most of the other manufacturers (Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY), LG Chem (OTC:LGCLF), etc.) already have more or less all of their production capacity locked up for the coming years – meaning there’s not much left for the auto manufacturers that are running behind, thereby limiting potential EV sales for the firms in question. Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) entry into the field should open things up a bit more”. Certainly a good move by Sony and helpful for the EV companies that will find themselves in need of batteries, and limited availability, should EVs reach 10% by 2020.

JOLED is a company that was established in 2014 by by Japan Display, Sony (NYSE:SNE) and Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY). And they are not the only ones:

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Great Plains Energy Inc(GXP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Westar Energy stock declined 8% after regulators at the Kansas Corporation Commissions blocked the sale of Westar to Great Plains Energy (NYSE:GXP). The $12.2 billion merger would have joined utilities in Kansas and Missouri. Great Plains had argued that the combination would produce nearly $2 billion in efficiency gains in the next 10 years, but regulators instead sided with those who had argued that the deal was too rich and would have required rate increases sooner rather than later. Great Plains stock was hardly affected at all by the decision, leading many to conclude that Westar had a lot more to lose from the deal falling through then Great Plains had to gain from a successful merger.
