Top 10 Bank Stocks To Own Right Now

Federal law requires public companies like Wells Fargo to warn shareholders about non-routine legal proceedings.

Yet it has now emerged that Wells Fargo stayed silent for at least six months about the fact that authorities were investigating the bank’s creation of fake accounts.

Wells Fargo (WFC) confirmed on Thursday that it was in talks with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau about unauthorized accounts as early as March 2016. This comes after the Charlotte Observer obtained emails under the Freedom of Information Act that revealed the discussions between the bank and the regulator.

The revelations will intensify questions over why Wells Fargo never alerted investors in public statements or public filings about the risk posed by what turned out to be a damaging investigation.

Wells Fargo’s September settlement with the CFPB and other regulators tarnished the storied bank’s reputation, hurt its stock price, led to the sudden retirement of CEO John Stumpf and included $185 million in fines.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Own Right Now: Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated(PEG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shauna O’Brien]

Jefferies announced on Tuesday that it has upgraded Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. (PEG).

The firm has lifted its rating on PEG from “Hold” to “Buy,” and has raised the company’s price target from $36 to $37. This price target suggests a 12% increase from the stock’s current price of $32.42.

Analyst Paul Fremont commented: “We are upgrading to Buy based on the improving outlook for regulatory approval of the company’s “Energy Strong” capital spending program.

“Each $1.0 billion of incremental spending will add an estimated $0.10 to PEG’s earnings. We assume that incremental spending is funded by debt and by incremental cash expected from the increasing gas basis differential between the Leidy hub and New Jersey. Our new estimates are considerably higher than consensus in 2014-16.”

Public Service Enterprise Group shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Tuesday. The stock is up 6% YTD.

stock buying

Overview:

Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR) has just recently hit a 34-year low of $1.20. This pummeling took place after a less-than-sterling Q1 report. It is obvious that integrating its 2016 purchase of Verizon (NYSE:VZ) properties has not gone as smoothly as it had anticipated. It is not unlike the problems the company had with a previous Verizon purchase in 2010. However, I believe most of the integration problems are behind it.

In this article, I will explain why the Frontier Mandatory Convertible Preferred Debenture (FTRPR) due June 28, 2018, is an excellent investment to make for the next 14 months or so.

1. Integration of two large service businesses like Frontier and Verizon is always problematic.

Frontier basically doubled its revenue by buying these Verizon properties in California, Texas and Florida (CTF). It included both wireline and fiber assets. When you do an acquisition like this, you have many unhappy people. Employees are unhappy because they know some are going to be laid off. Customers are unhappy because they don’t know what will happen to their service and pricing. Then you have corporate problems integrating different systems (management, hardware, software, policy, HR) and trying to standardize corporate cultures. The whole transition period is full of stress, starting with the customers and ending at the executive suite.

stock buying: Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc.(HII)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.MONEYSHOW.COM]

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is the largest repairer and ship builder for the U.S. Navy and U.S. coast guard, giving the company a near monopoly on these government contracts (which is why their return on equity is north of 27%).

stock buying: Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co.(RS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Elizabeth Balboa]

This is mostly triggered by artificial boosts in steel prices caused by trade regulation. Rising costs are positive for the steel industry and players like United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X), AK Steel Holding Corporation (NYSE: AKS) and Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co (NYSE: RS), but they’re ultimately injurious to those reliant on steel products manufacturers of canned goods, farm equipment, machinery and appliances.

stock buying: International Business Machines Corporation(IBM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sreekanth Anasa]

Given that the company is still at some distance on the road to profitability, it needs to maintain its strong revenue growth. Once again the company needs to show strong growth in deferred revenue to assure investors about its long-term growth story. The 77% YoY growth indeferred revenue to $526 million in last quarter earnings had outpaced its Q4 revenue growth of 62%. This has also been boosted by the impressive 87% YoY rise in the customer base. The company’s software segment gaining traction has got investors excited since pure software play means higher margins than its core hardware business. Thesoftware only bookings grew by 96% YoY in the fourth quarter forming 17% of the total bookings. The impact of the OEM agreements with IBM (NYSE:IBM) for software and Pure software agreement with Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Hewlett Packard Enterprises (NYSE:HPE) hardware is also likely to be closely watched. With DRAM prices expected to rise further, the increase in software moat could be very much welcomed by the investors.

  • [By Brian Mathews]

International Business Machines Corp (NYSE: IBM) is a well-recognized brand that specializes in all facets of information technology, such as software, hardware and research. IBM has always been a major player in the technology sector and is considered a “blue-chip” stock. However, it has suffered declining revenues over the last few quarters mostly to currency fluctuations. Now that it has stabilized, IBM looks to grow in 2016. Mainframes are still popular among financial services and the telecom industry, from which IBM receives a fair amount of revenue. Also, mainframe growth has been increasing in the emerging markets, and IBM faces little competition based on its global presence. IBM’s largest potential stems from its $138 billion services backlog and existing relationships, which provide great insight into customer needs and translate into new product development. With IBM’s dividend of 3.3%, investors can afford to wait while IBM hits its target price of $170 over the next year.

Warren Buffett’s annual shareholders’ letter came out Feb. 25. The Oracle of Omaha covered a lot of ground in his annual state of the union. Revisiting the subject of share repurchases, Buffett discussed the reasons why you don’t see Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A, NYSE:BRK.B) on his own list of stocks to buy.

While he’s not against them, mind you, he believes that most CEOs pay very little attention to the price paid to buyback repurchase their company’s stock, an affliction that Berkshire Hathaway doesn’t suffer from. He’s authorized to buy back Berkshire stock by the boatload up to 120% of its book value per share, a price that’s substantially discounted from its true intrinsic value.

Best Heal Care Stocks To Buy For 2018

MannKind (MNKD) investors saw Afrezza scripts come in for the week of 11/10 slightly higher than the previous week, but essentially flat. This is a period where traction is needed if MannKind hopes to hit the re-stated low end of net revenue guidance of $6 million. Simply stated, the company needs sales to ramp up substantially in a time period where it is typically tough to demonstrate sales traction with prescription drugs. The data this week is the first data that includes the potential impacts of the regional television advertising campaign launched by MannKind on November 6th. Ad campaigns take time to bring about maximum effectiveness, so investors should not anticipate or expect an overnight shift in script sales. In the near term, patients with existing appointments that see the ad may be compelled to ask their doctor about Afrezza. In the longer term, the benefit may grow because the advertisement may compel a patient to schedule an appointment and inquire. One challenge that remains is that insurance coverage on Afrezza is far from optimal, and while a patient may ask about the drug, they may not act on it after getting a script because of a lack of coverage or the level of out of pocket expense. Like anything, there are positives and negatives to consider so that you as an investor can arrive at a realistic assessment and opinion.

Others noted that the latest reading of U.S. economic growth showed a 1.9% rise in gross domestic product for the fourth quarter, finishing the year with an overall GDP increase of just 1.6%, down a full percentage point from 2015’s growth. Despite the overall sullen mood in the market, some stocks gained ground, and GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO), Movado Group (NYSE:MOV), and IPG Photonics (NASDAQ:IPGP) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

Earnings Reporter

My goal in this segment is to unlock both short-term and long-term growth in stocks that have just reported earnings. These stocks are specifically subject to enormous volatility, as earnings reports are seen (and rightfully so) as a significant display of a company’s progression in the market. What I offer you is an analysis of the economic well-being of the company, and whether I think the stock is a buy, hold or sell for either (or both) the short term or long term. To get used to the format of this segment, take a look at my last article on Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE)

After careful consideration, I have rated Duluth Holdings (NASDAQ:DLTH) as a Buy for the long term.

Tuesday’s Report

Earlier this week, Duluth Holdings reported Q4 earnings, and absolutely crushed expectations. The company reported an Earnings Per Share figure of $.43 and a sales figure of $174.65 Million, which is a 24.4% increase compared to the previous Q4. What’s key for Duluth is their unparalleled marketing campaigns, leading Stephanie Pugliese, the CEO, to say:

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Daniel Miller]

Investors looking for a bright spot in Ford Motor Company’s (NYSE:F) sales data finally received good news. After mediocre results in Ford’s U.S. sales and a drastic 21% plunge in China sales, the automaker managed to post a really strong month in Europe.

As the stock market inches toward the end of the year, among the four car manufacturers that sell the most cars in the United States, there is one clear loser in the stock market. FordMotor Co. (NYSE: F) shares are down sharply, off 12%.

    Hanesbrandsdropped 16% to $18.98 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 2,297.42.

Stifel’s Jim Duffy and team explain what went wrong:

Structural changes in US consumer and retail trends weighed on 4Q and HBI fell short in 4Q. These trends are expected to continue in FY17 and guidance was more cautious than prevailing estimates. Given the leverage and dependence on acquisitions for growth, we view visibility to underlying free cash generation key to valuation and we are discouraged by both 2016 results which were well short of plan and the outlook for FY17 operating cash flow which is a step backwards from prior FY16 guidance. With a reduction in 2017 CFO estimates from $795mn to $690mn we are lowering our 12-month target price from $26 to $23.

Hanesbrands’ market capitalization fell to $7.2 billion today from $8.6 billion yesterday.

Hanesbrands was just one of many retail companies that got shellacked this week. Under Armour (UAA) tumbled 29% after missing earnings forecasts and cutting its guidance, while Deckers Outdoor (DECK) plunged 21% after its earnings missed the Street consensus, and Ralph Lauren (RL) plummeted 13% after its CEO stepped down.

If a stock falls hard, particularly one with a durable name in its industry, it could be an opportunity to pick up shares on the cheap. But sometimes, a stock trades at a discount for a very good reason, so let’s take a look at Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR), Hanesbrands (NYSE:HBI), and Vista Outdoor (NYSE:VSTO) to see if they are good values at these lower prices — or just value traps.
