Top Gold Stocks To Buy Right Now

While stocks got hammered yesterday, and pre-market open conditions suggest another down day on Wall Street, gold continues to be the shining star for investors. Early trading this morning shows gold futures continue their rally, with evolving developments surrounding the Trump White House lifting prices on the safe-haven metal to new highs.

What this means for gold, and more specifically gold mining stocks, is the potential for a sustained upward trend in prices as investors reconsider the commodity in turbulent political and economic times. Nexus Gold Corp (OTC: NXXGF), a Vancouver-based mineral resource company that develops precious metal mineral assets in premier mining districts across the globe, was recently highlighted as one of the junior gold mining stocks to watch.

Hot Gold Stocks To Watch For 2019

Three years of bitter infighting in the Bitcoin community reached a head on Tuesday, when a disgruntled group splintered off to create a new coin called Bitcoin Cash that can process a greater number of transactions per second but shares the same transaction history as Bitcoin up until Tuesday at 8:20am Eastern Time.

Though many insiders were anxiously anticipating the event, the market seemed to shrug it off. The price of Bitcoin, which had been rising over the last few days, dropped only 5% from $2,875 to $2,718, according to Coinmarketcap.com.

“I think this thing will totally blow over,” said Daniel Masters, director of Global Advisors, which runs the Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment Fund. “I think Bitcoin Cash will exist. I think it will be a low-priced coin compared to Bitcoin. In three months’ time, I would be very surprised if it’s worth more than $50.” (Its current price is $470.)

However, it is the first time in Bitcoin’s history that a new coin created from it has a name that could cause it to be mistaken for the original. While it’s too soon to tell, that potential for confusion could someday become an issue for what has so far, because of its 21 million-coin cap, been considered digital gold.

Hot Gold Stocks To Watch For 2019: Genuine Parts Company(GPC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

    2. Price To Sales
Another useful metric is the price-to-sales ratio (P/S). P/S measures a company’s market cap versus its annual revenue number. The idea is that the lower the number, the greater the implied value. For example, Snap, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNAP) trades at 26.9 times sales, an incredibly expensive number. However, aftermarket auto parts giant Genuine Parts (NYSE: GPC) trades at just 0.88 times sales — 88 cents to every dollar of sales the company brings in. Often, the lower the number, the more inefficiently the market has mispriced the stock.

  • [By ]

    Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE: GPC)
Ok, now I know I’ve definitely locked in the broken record award. GPC is better known to consumers as NAPA auto parts. And aftermarket auto parts is probably one of the most lucrative businesses in the United States for too many reasons to cover now.

Top Stocks To Own For 2018

Sears is soaring today, and there is, thankfully, an obvious reason (I hate when there isn’t one). In this case, it’s the news that Bruce Berkowitz’s Fairholme Capital Management bought 286,000 shares of the stock from March 23 to March 27, following CEO Eddie Lampert’s purchase of more than 500,000 last week.

Getty Images

That’s sent shares of Sears soaring 11% yesterday, and another 17% to $11.02 at 3:30 p.m. today, helped, no doubt, by investors covering their short positions in the stock.

We get why investors would be enthusiastic about these purchases. When insiders buy shares its a sign that they’re putting their money where there mouths are, and willing to bet on the prospects of the company. That was the case when JPMorgan Chase (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon bought shares of his bank near the market low in Feb. 2016.

Top Stocks To Own For 2018: Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc.(PGNX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

After meeting with the senior management team of Progenics (PGNX) , Valeant’s partner for oral Relistor, we continue to think that this drug would be a good addition to Valeant’s GI (gastrointestinal) franchise. The PDUFA date for oral Relistor is 7/19/16. AlthoughValeant is leading interactions with the FDA, Progenics is highly confident regarding an approval in July based on its discussions with Valeant. Progenics believes that oral Relistor could be a $1B+ opportunity for Valeant, even with the recent decrease in opioid usage. For context, we estimate ’16 sales of $9.9B for Valeant. An approval for oral Relistor would also help remind the Street that Valeant’s brand drug pipeline is underappreciated, in our view. We think pipeline advancements for brand drugs could drive multiple expansion forValeant shares (on P/E).

    Monday’s Volume: 4.90 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 1.01 million

    Volume % Change: 351%

From a technical perspective, SOHU ripped sharply higher here with heavy upside volume. This move pushed shares of SOHU into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance at $67.80. Shares of SOHU are now quickly moving within range of triggering another breakout trade. That trade will hit if SOHU manages to take out Monday’s high of $69.71 to its 52-week high at $70.63 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SOHU as long as it’s trending above Monday’s low of $66.95 or above that first breakout level of $67.80 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 1.01 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then SOHU will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $75 to $80.

best stock buys now: Western Union Company (The)(WU)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Brian Mathews]

Western Union Co. (NYSE: WU) is the leading independent provider of consumer money transfer services. After a rough couple of years and dealing with compliance and regulatory issues, WU has finally weathered the storm. Market share has stabilized and revenues have been slowly growing. One of Western Union’s strengths is its size in the industry. The money-transfer business is highly scalable because the incremental costs of processing additional transactions are minimal. This allows WU to have operating margins that are twice as large as its closest competitor. Also, since WU is a highly recognizable brand, consumers flock to use its services in comparison to its peers. Western Union submitted a bid to buy the Australian company OzForex. If this deal goes through, it will provide additional scale to WU, especially to a market clientele that is more affluent. With the troubling times behind the company and expansion on the horizon, expect WU stock to appreciate to $24.

Shares of Endo International (ENDP) have tumbled 40% today after it said profits would fall well short of analyst expectations thanks, in part, to plunging generic drug prices. They explain:

Endos ’16 guidance re-basing, which comes afterPerrigo (MP) provided a similar rebasing (4/25), may provide read-through for companies with high exposure to (1) significant 2014-15 US generic price hikes; (2) disproportionately high 2015 generic gross margins another indicator of price and tough Y/Y comparable. While we expect the broader spec pharma group to trade down on theEndo (MP) print, we see the most direct read-through toAkorn (MP),Perrigo (MP) and TEVA (OP), moderate read-through to Allergan (AGN) (OP) and Mallinckrodt (MNK) (OP) and limited read-through to Mylan (MYL) (OP) and Sandoz who have already reported. Our sector view is that generic price deflation will be most acute in pockets of the market, mainly opioids and one-off niche alternative dosage products while the bigger diversified players seem relatively insulated and 1Q results for Sandoz andMylan provide some support that view.

The downtrend here is clearly well established, But, it cemented itself in place yesterday and today. On Monday the bulls took a shot, pushing and up and off of the 200-day moving average line (green) after finding support there last week. It was a short-lived effort, setting up a drastic change of heart – the people who regretted not getting out a month ago took the small uptick as a second chance to do so. Only this time, the sellers weren’t so shy. TACO broker under the 200-day moving average that had been support just a week earlier, and did so on higher volume. daily stock picks: J.M. Smucker Company (The)(SJM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

J.M. Smucker(SJM) is falling Monday, after Morgan Stanley’sMatthew Grainger and his team cut their rating on the stock, citing pricing pressures from Wal-Mart (WMT) and growing competition from private-labels.

    Getty Images

Grainger slash Smucker to Underweight from Equal Weight, and shaved $6 off his price target, to $126. He also cites what he calls “sustained” challenges in both its coffee and pet food business, as well as“below-average strategic optionality.”

At the same time, he also upgraded Pinnacle Foods (PF) to Overweight from Equal Weight, and raised his price target to $63 from $58, on its double-digit earnings growth and what he sees as superior execution.

Nonetheless, he sees many of the packaged food companies in his coverage, from Smucker to Pinnacle, as subject to pressure from Wal-Mart and off-brand rivals. From the note:

Walmart comprises ~22% of sales across our coverage, a figure that has increased in recent years even as the retailers total grocery sales have grown at an even faster 4% CAGR. With Food margins expected to expand meaningfully, we believe this only enhances Walmart’s negotiating leverage going forward. SJM, Dean Foods (DF), and General Mills (GIS) are most at risk in the current environment, in our view.

Recent scanner data points to a positive inflection in private label trends (share up ~30 bps L12W) across a range of center-store categories, a dynamic we believe could intensify in an increasingly competitive retail grocery landscape. Our analysis of recent trends points to the most meaningful underperformance vs. private label at GIS, SJM, ConAgra (CAG), and Campbell Soup (CPB), while only PF has outperformed in recent weeks.

Smucker is down 1.1% to $127.95 this morning, while Pinnacle is up 0.8% to %48.47.
