The Federal Reserve&a;rsquo;s increased aggression over the past couple of years has finally come home to roost. The yield on the 10-year Treasury recently rocketed above 2.8% &a;ndash; a four-year high &a;ndash; while the 30-year cleared the 3% mark.

That&a;rsquo;s bad news for investors in many traditional dividend-paying blue chips.

The 10-year T-note might as well have been a &a;ldquo;high-yield&a;rdquo; savings account the past few years, offering almost laughable income of less than 1.4% as recently as 2016. That kind of environment gives investors &a;ldquo;yield goggles,&a;rdquo; making even no-growth stocks look attractive as long as they&a;rsquo;re paying out near 3%.

Just look at the performance of the &l;b&g;Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR &l;/b&g;&a;ndash; a collection of companies such as &l;b&g;Procter &a;amp; Gamble&l;/b&g; and &l;b&g;Coca-Cola&l;/b&g; &a;ndash; against the 10-year Treasury rate. While the XLP has broadly grown, it&a;rsquo;s strongest when the T-note&a;rsquo;s yield is in decline, and the fund typically stagnates or declines when the Treasury begins to deliver more income.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Own Right Now: Cummins Inc.(CMI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Lee Samaha]

As you can see in the table above, Resource Industries is currently the smallest segment, but its cyclical recovery is crucial to Caterpillar meeting its guidance. The problem here is that metals and minerals prices have been declining in the last six months, and this calls into question the idea that miners are in the early innings of a long cycle of investment. Throw in talk of near-term weakness from companies like Cummins (NYSE:CMI) — and Caterpillar for that matter — and the outlook is uncertain.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Watch Right Now

A long-haired princess, a video game villain, an ice queen, a pillowy robot, cosmopolitan critters, and now a demi-god.

That’s the trajectory of the current Disney Animation renaissance, which is likely to add another success to a string of them this weekend with “Moana.”

A musical that stars newcomer Auli’i Cravalho as the titular Polynesian princess and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the demigod Maui, “Moana” is projected for a five day holiday weekend opening in the range of $80 million to $85 million, according to box office analysts. The film is off to a good start making $2.6 million in Tuesday night showings.

Those projections would put it in play to be one of the biggest Thanksgiving holiday openings of all time.

Disney itself is being a bit more modest, putting its forecast closer to $70 million. But the House of Mouse may just be trying to downplay expectations. The truth is there are plenty of reasons to think that the film could pull in larger-than-expected ticket sales this weekend.

Best Blue Chip Stocks To Buy For 2018

Wall Street on Monday didn’t just cash in on one winner, or a daily double, or even a trifecta. It notched astock market-style superfecta, with all four major U.S. stock indexes — representing blue chip names, technology stocks, small caps and large-company stocks — all closing at record highs on the same day for the first time in 17years.

The post-election rallybegan two weeks ago with so-called “Red Stocks” ripping higher after Republican Donald Trump’s surprise win on Nov. 8. The rally, which has been fueled by hopes that the president-elect’s growth-friendly policies will finallyjolt the U.S. economy out of its multi-year doldrums, has spreadto virtually every corner of the stock market.

All-time highs were in abundance tostart the week: Blue chips in the Dow Jones industrial average closed up 89 points to a record 18,956.69, extending its 2016 gain to nearly 9%.The benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500 finished 0.8% higher at 2198.18, its highest close ever. The tech-packed Nasdaq composite rallied 0.9% to a record 5368.86. And the Russell 2000, a stock index filled with the market’s smallest companies, extendedits winning streak to 12 sessions on its way to an all time record close of 1322.23 and a 16.4% gain for the year. That is the Russell 2000’s longest winning streak since June 2003.

Best Blue Chip Stocks To Buy For 2018: Agrium Inc.(AGU)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Gains are being seen elsewhere as well, except in shares of The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS). AgriumInc. (NYSE: AGU) was up almost 3% at $91.95 in late Monday trading, although this one held up much better in the destructive news phase when the alarming news roiled these stocks. The big winner is Intrepid Potash, Inc. (NYSE: IPI), with a gain of 7% to $16.20 in late-Monday trading.

The agriculture ETF is heavily weighted toward the U.S., with 45.8% of its assets there, but it is geographically diverse, with exposure to countries such as Canada (9.9%), Switzerland (8.5%), Japan (6.7%) and Singapore (5.1%).

Potash Cartel Breakup Has Weighed on This Agriculture ETF

The ETF’s unit price declined in the first half of 2013, partly because of the breakup of the Belarusian Potash Company (BPC), through which Russia’s Uralkali, the world’s No. 1 potash producer, and Belaruskali of Belarus distribute their potash. The market is dominated by BPC and Canpotex, owned by Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (NYSE: POT), Mosaic and Agrium Inc. (NYSE: AGU).

Together, the two cartels control 70% of global potash exports, so the breakup of BPC will result in a more fractured market, which seems likely to push potash prices lower. Shares of major potash producers fell sharply on the news, as did Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF due to its potash stock holdings, which include Agrium, Potash Corp. and Mosaic.

Credit Suisse Maintains Apple Stock At ‘Outperform’ Citing Strong iPhone Sales

Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) could be heading for a solid finish to the year. This will be in stark contrast to the first 9 months of 2016, which included Apple’s three consecutive quarters of revenue and top line decline. The muted performance of Cupertino has taken a toll on AAPL stock, which is up 4.5% for the year, underperforming both the Nasdaq Composite (INDX:COMPX), which has gained 6.5%, as well as the S&P 500 (INDX:SPAL) which is up 8.2% in the same period. However, Apple now seems to be on track to return to growth in the holiday quarter with its iPhone segment leading the charge.

iPhone Builds To Hit All-Time Record In December Quarter

Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha, in a recent investor note, stated that the demand for the iPhones is good and Apple is heading for record shipments. The analyst maintained an ‘Outperform rating’ on the stock while also holding his $150 price target. As reported by Barron’s this is what he had to say:

top penny stocks: Smithfield Foods Inc.(SFD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By John Udovich]

Thanksgiving is almost here but the exit of both Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation (NYSE: PPC) and Smithfield Foods (NYSE: SFD) to focus on their chicken or pork businesses (the latter was also acquired by the Chinese) leaves just two big Thanksgiving turkey stocks, Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) and Seaboard Corporation (NYSEAMEX: SEB), for investors to consider. According to the American Far Bureau, a 16-pound turkey will (on average) come in at a total of $22.74 this year or roughly $1.42 per pound for a decrease of 2 cents per pound or a total of 30 cents per whole turkey, compared to 2015. The price drop may be a transition back to the norm as the significant bird flu outbreak last year hurt the nations supply of both turkey and eggs.

Shares ofThe Kraft Heinz Company(NASDAQ:KHC) rose 20% in 2016, according to data provided byS&P Global Market Intelligence. There are dozens of major companies that could be on Warren Buffetts radar, ranging from food company General Mills (NYSE:GIS)valued at $36 billion to discount retailer Dollar General (NYSE:DG)valued at $20.5 billion. Rumors are also abound that the Oracle of Omaha backed Kraft Heinz (NSDQ:KHC), which is Berkshire Hathaways largest stock position, could make a bid for snack giant Mondelez International (NSDQ:MDLZ)valued at almost $65 billion, although these might just be rumors since Buffett himself ruled out the possibility of a Mondelez deal in mid-2015.

  • [By Daniel Miller]

The Kraft Heinz Company (NASDAQ:KHC) made headlines Friday morning after it announced a proposed $143 billion merger with Unilever in what would potentially be one of the biggest deals in history. Unfortunately, at least for now, the latter has declined, as it doesn’t see strategic or financial merit at this time. But surely Kraft has no plans to give up on this match made in heaven that could place key parts of your fridge under one company umbrella. The combined company would combine Hellmann’s mayo, Heinz ketchup, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Oscar Mayer hot dogs, Philadelphia cream cheese, and among many other products, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Canadian gold mining company NovaGold Resources Inc. (NYSE: NG) shows an even starker change in sentiment. In the last 12 months, the volume of short bets on the stock declined 79%, to 522,400.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

When an investor thinks of Canadian gold mining stocks, NovaGold Resources Inc. (USA) (NYSEMKT:NG) and Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) (NYSE:AUY) are often the first names to come to mind. And well they should. Yamana Gold is a $2.5 billion giant, and NovaGold Resources seems to have been around forever.

Those two icons aren’t the only way to tap into Canada’s sizeable gold mining industry though. There’s a small, up-and-coming player called Taranis Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:TNREF, TSX:TRO) that could end up becoming another key fixture of the country’s mining landscape.

Taranis develops mineral deposits into mine-ready projects. Its primary project right now — and it’s enough to keep the company plenty busy for the next several years — is the Thor property located near Trout Lake, British Columbia. NI 43-101 resource reports (indicated and inferred)suggest Thor contains 6.9 million ounces of silver, 35,000 ounces gold, 57 million pounds of lead, 79.4 million pounds of zinc and 3.3 Million pounds of copper (roughly a 14 million ounce silver equivalent (“AgEq”) deposit*) laying in wait in a way that lends itself to the establishment of a low-cost, open pit mining operation. That’s roughly $300 million worth of marketable metals, and the estimates have been steadily getting bigger as Tanaris does more survey work.

And 2017 could be a real breakout year for Taranis, as a lot of the work that’s been done to date starts to mean something. It’s got big exploration plans for this year… this spring/summer to be exact.

The Phase 1 program was completed in September of last year, setting the stage for a more defined and much bigger Phase 2 definition-drilling within the next several weeks. This Phase 2 definition drilling slated for the middle of this year will drill down to between 6000 m and 10,000 m.

These so-called first generation target areas are generally well understood areas based on sound geological information includ
