D.R. Barton, Jr.

Today we’re going to talk about numbers.

Traders look at numbers all the time, and I’m no different.

And last week, there were two numbers that really stood out to me.

That’s why we’re going to dig in to both the employment number and the 50-day moving average.

More importantly, we’ll talk about how each of these numbers affects our narrative and our trading strategy going forward.

So make sure to tune in below…

otc stocks: Compass Diversified Holdings(CODI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.MONEYSHOW.COM]

Compass Diversified Holdings (CODI) seeks to invest in manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, and business services sectors.

One thing I like about Compass is its strict definitions of its acquisition strategy. They have a six-step process of identifying companies to acquire that reads simply, but has lead to astounding success.

otc stocks: Peugeot S.A. (PUGOY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By John Rosevear]

It’s official: General Motors (NYSE:GM) will sell its long-troubled Opel subsidiary to French automaker Peugeot S.A. (NASDAQOTH:PUGOY) for about $2.3 billion, in a deal expected to close later this year.

  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

Now, the General is thinking about ditching Europe for good by selling its European operations to French automaker Peugeot (NASDAQOTH:PUGOY). As long as Peugeot is willing to pay a reasonable price, selling Opel is GM’s best course of action.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Yes, you read that correct! General Motors (NYSE: GM) will probably not settle for just a new 52-week high and will aim to take out the 2013 peak of $41.85. With talks about the Opel sellout to PSA Group (OTCPK:PEUGF) (OTCPK:PUGOY) progressing at a rate much faster than I had anticipated, a (likely) deal announcement on Monday will pave the way for new all-time highs.

investment bankers: Ford Motor Company(F)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Daniel Miller]

In fairness, it’s difficult to compare Tesla’s valuation metrics with that of other automakers because the companies are wildly different and at different stages of growth. Still, the numbers are ridiculous. Tesla’s price-to-book and price-to-sales ratios check in at 10.4 and 6.2, respectively. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company’s (NYSE:F) price-to-book and price-to-sales are 1.5 and 0.3; General Motors’ (NYSE:GM)are a similar 1.2 and 0.3. Tesla’s market capitalization has skyrocketed into the stratosphere to eclipse Ford’s at $44 billion, and is currently matching General Motors’ near $51 billion — that’s insanity.

  • [By Jack Foley]

In fact, the company’s December numbers were very impressive, but I maintain that a lot of this growth has been generated as a result of a plethora of launches over the past few years. TheEdge crossover & theExpedition SUV drove growth in the SUV segment. F-series pickups (led by the recently launched Super Duty & the F-150) posted a record-breaking quarter which hasn’t been surpassedfor over a decade. Apart from Ford’s light truck growth, investors would have noticed the SARS (Seasonally Adjusted Annualized Selling Rate) came in at a robust 18.38 million in December. This means that 2016 sales on average rose to 17.54 million, which was another consecutive growth year for the industry. However, cyclical tops always end in euphoria which we can see in the sentiment chart below. Yes, the stock may look cheap with its present price to earnings ratio of 6.28, but meaningful risks remain in my opinion. (See Also:Is Ford Motor Company (F) Becoming A Trump Stock?)

At the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that took place in Las Vegas between January 5 to 8, Ford Motor Company(NYSE:F)announced a new collaboration with Amazon.com, Inc.(NSDQ:AMZN)which will enable consumers to use Alexa in Ford cars. Amazon Alexa has become very popular, and many people have received an Echo or Echo Dot this holiday as a gift. According to Ford, Alexa in its cars will provide access to shop, search, and control smart home features while driving. What’s more, the integration of Alexa in Ford cars will allow Ford vehicle owners, by using voice commands, to remotely start the car from home, lock or unlock doors. Also, while driving, Ford car owners will be able to order items on Amazon, listen to audio books, and transfer local destinations to the in-car navigation system.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Frontline might be evaluating a new tanker company target such as Gener8 Maritime Inc (NYSE: GNRT), away from DHT Holdings Inc (NYSE: DHT), Lewis said. This was substantiated by the fact that Frontline sold 1.7 million shares of DHT in March, followed by 2.4 million shares in April and May. Though Frontline holds about 6.8 million shares of DHT, the Credit Suisse analyst said a deal is unlikely.

March has been a month associated with bad news. Remember Julius Caesar and the ides of March? At least Julius had the opportunity to enjoy a couple of good weeks before disaster struck.

Bad news came early in the month for Juno Therapeutics (NASDAQ:JUNO) and PTC Therapeutics (NASDAQ:PTCT). Both companies announced major pipeline setbacks. What’s next for these beleaguered biotechs?

The CAR-T pipeline keeps rolling for Juno

Juno’s discontinuation of JCAR015 was nearly anticlimactic. The company slipped the news that it wouldn’t advance the chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) drug in its fourth-quarter financial update. It was bad news for Juno, but not surprising news.

The biotech had placed the phase 2 ROCKET clinical trial evaluatingJCAR015 on hold in November. Two patients in the study taking the experimental drug died after suffering from swelling in the brain.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) and Caesars Entertainment (NASDAQ:CZR) are two of the most well known gaming companies in the world. But they’re very different companies with very different futures ahead.

  • [By Michael E. Lewitt]

Back in April, I recommendedCaesars Entertainment Corp.(Nasdaq: CZR) as a buy – but warned you that this was a play that might take some time to mature.

  • [By AlphaStreetResearch]

Caesars Entertainment Corporation (CZR) is a highly overvalued gaming, hotel, and entertainment company with deteriorating fundamentals on all levels in a highly competitive environment. The company’s stock has seen a massive run to the upside on the coattails of other casino and entertainment companies in the space. A considerable catalyst for the push higher in these stocks is the good news coming out of Macau, but this is an area where Caesars has absolutely no exposure and will be locked out of for the foreseeable future after failing to take appropriate licensing measures. Below is our introduction into the business model, its weaknesses, and the new selling or shorting opportunity that exists for CZR after the recent appreciation in share price. Investors will soon realize that there is little upside value in this company and that there are much better opportunities in this space. The company is now amidst a major struggle from a debt standpoint with major deadlines approaching over the next year and a half. The company is in no position to thrive going forward unless major steps are taken to overhaul the company’s capital structure. Caesars Entertainment has a market cap of $3.19 Billion after the stock has moved up over 225% year to date and reports its next quarter on October 31, 2013. With this in mind, we value CZR at $21.00 by year-end of 2013 and $14.00 by August 1, 2014, a decrease of 40% from current levels. We will later highlight:

It has been a long very dismal story since the former president of Contango Oil & Gas (MCF) passed away. Kenneth Peak built an oil company with a great reputation for growth. The current management has unsuccessfully struggled to fill his shoes. The result has been a steady decline in a stock price until more than 95% of the value of the company from its highs was lost. The company still has decent financial strength despite management inaction. So a recovery is possible if management becomes motivated to get moving.

Source: Seeking Alpha Website December 1, 2017

The stock bounced off the bottom before Friday’s sizable gain. It has been a long trip down since the stock approached $50 a share. Before the president passed away there was the oil spill. That completely stopped drilling and leasing activity for a time. The death of a key officer simply aggravated an already bad situation.

Some brokerages are forging ahead with a new retirement-savings rule even though the Trump administration has postponedand could cancelits implementation.

The fiduciary rule was set to take effect on Monday, but the Labor Department has officially delayed it for 60 days starting April 7. In that time, the department can revise it, rescind it or request another delay.

The rule would have required brokers who oversee $3 trillion in tax-advantaged retirement savings to act in their clients best interest. That is a stricter standard than many brokerages were using. After the rule was unveiled in April 2016, some brokerages moved clients from commission-based accounts that could run afoul of the rule to fee-only accounts.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market continued to climb sharply on Wednesday, sending major market benchmarks to record highs yet again and propelling the Dow Jones Industrials up more than 100 points. Economic data continued to support the notion that the U.S. economy remains strong, and rising inflation levels led many to conclude that the Federal Reserve is more likely than ever to follow through on its promise to keep lifting short-term interest rates in 2017. Rising bond yields reflected investors’ reluctance to hold onto fixed-income investments in anticipation of higher rates, prompting some to shift assets into the stock market. Several companies also reported, andFortress Investment Group (NYSE:FIG), Editas Medicine (NASDAQ:EDIT), and Hertz Global Holdings (NYSE:HTZ) were among the top performers on the day. dow stock: CA Inc.(CA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

Regardless of the drop in revenue, the company managed to outperform against the industry average of 15.5%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 6.8%. Weakness in the company’s revenue seems to have hurt the bottom line, decreasing earnings per share.

Net operating cash flow has decreased to $45.00 million or 31.81% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing the cash generation rate to the industry average, the firm’s growth is significantly lower.

Last but not least, the conversion and consolidation of the American healthcare colossus will be a bonanza for tech companies engaged in networking, software, and the cloud. Those best suited to handle the task are the usual suspects: Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), IBM (NYSE: IBM), CA Technologies (Nasdaq: CA), Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL), and Hewlett Packard (NYSE: HPE).

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We rate CA INC as a Hold with a ratings score of C+. The primary factors that have impacted our rating are mixed – some indicating strength, some showing weaknesses, with little evidence to justify the expectation of either a positive or negative performance for this stock relative to most other stocks. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its attractive valuation levels, expanding profit margins and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, weak operating cash flow and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and greatly underperformed compared to the Software industry average. The net income has significantly decreased by 32.0% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $256.00 million to $174.00 million.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Our peer group is up an average of 46% over the past 4 weeks in response to a 30% rebound in the 12-month strip NYMEX oil price. Some of the largest gainers include Hold and Sell rated stocks that we would not chase such asDenbury Resources (Sell, +138%), Halcon Resources (HK) (Sell, +147%), Jones Energy (JONE) (Hold, +166%), Rex Energy (REXX) (Sell, +60%), Sanchez Energy (SN) (Hold, +93%), Ultra Petroleum (UPL) (Sell, +61%), andWhiting Petroleum (Hold, +103%), which have outperformed the E&P Index (+32%) over the same time period. Balance sheets and/or well level returns remain challenged for these companies despite improved oil prices. While we believe oil markets should re-balance over the next 12 to 15 months, the recent recovery to $40 could reverse during 2Q16 as bloated inventories continue to rise, new volumes from Iran pressure an oversupplied market, and a highly anticipated decline in non-OPEC supply (especially in the U.S.), is not as steep as expected. The risk of an oil price retracement, which would significantly pressure the recent out-performers, outweighs the upside in these stocks, in our view. However, we are raising our target prices on Buy ratedAnadarko Petroleum ($54 from $48), Concho Resources (CXO) ($120 from $109), Matador Resources (MTDR) ($22 from $21),Noble Energy (NBL) ($40 from $34), SM Energy (SM) ($22 from $15), Rice Energy ($14 from $12), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) ($155 from $135),Continental Resources ($32 from $28), and Parsley Energy (PE) ($24 from $23). We believe our Buy-rated stocks are better positioned to weather challenging oil markets.
