Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018

First it was plane makers in Canada and Europe. Now companies in the United States and Brazil might get hitched.

Plane makers Boeing and Embraer issued a joint statement Thursday confirming the “companies are engaged in discussions regarding a potential combination, the basis of which remains under discussion.”

“There is no guarantee a transaction will result from these discussions. Boeing and Embraer do not intend to make any additional comments regarding these discussions,” according to the statement. Any agreement would be subject to approval by their respective boards, shareholders and the Brazilian Government, the statement added.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that Boeing, the world’s largest maker of planes, and Brazil’s Embraer, the third, had held talks about a possible takeover. But approval by the Brazilian Government remained the largest sticking point.

Shares of Embraer (ERJ) rose more than 28% during trading on Thursday.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, or AAO, the differences between the three therapies are considered clinically insignificant by many ophthalmologists. Thus, in our view, RTH258 must be priced somewhere between $1,850 for Eylea, and $1,950 for Lucentis, in order for Novartis to be able to compete.

Sparks preliminary data demonstrated the efficacy in eliminating bleeding but more importantly, the unknowns and variations pose the huge uncertainties when moving forward. What made this worse is the direct comparison with the competitor in the same conference. BioMarin is establishing its leading position in hemophilia A field. Outside the gene therapy for hemophilia A, the recently approved Hemlibra from Roche (OTCQX:RHHBY) and ongoing Phase 3 Fitusiran from Alnylam (NASDAQ: ALNY) could be the direct competitors in this field. The trailing needs time to catch up.

Overview

I am fascinated with commodities. This is why I invest in companies like Cal-Maine Foods (CALM), Sanderson Farms (SAFM), Bunge Limited (BG), Hormel Foods (HRL), Fresh Del Monte (FDP), and oh yea, Concho Resources (CXO), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) and Rice Midstream Partners (RMP).

But it is very important to follow indicators impacting companies with exposure to commodities. For companies like Cal-Maine, Hormel and Sanderson, this relates to their produced products, as well as their cost inputs. Others may be more sensitive to core produced supply and demand trends.

stock investor: Helen of Troy Limited(HELE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Helen of Troy (HELE) is trading lower Friday, after reporting a mixed first quarter.

The personal care products company said it earned $1.27 a share on revenue that rose 0.8% to $347.9 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.17 per share on revenue of $356.1 million. Gross profit margin increased 2.3 percentage points to 43.8%, while cash flow from operations climbed from $37.8 million in the year ago period to $41.7 million.

For the full year, Helen of Troy expects to earn between $5.85 to $6.35 a share on revenue of $1.57 billion to $1.62 billion. Analysts are modeling for earnings of $6.12 a share on revenue of $1.6 billion. However the company also warned that it expects a decline in sales for its nutritional supplement division.

Jefferies Trevor Young reiterated a Buy rating and $114 price target on the stock today:

Despite the 1Q revenue miss and ~30bps (~$4m) expected incremental FX headwinds, management maintained its FY revenue and adjusted EPS guidance (GAAP EPS came down $0.23 on the high and low end due to $6.6m of after tax non-cash asset impairment and patent litigation charges). Embedded in this guidance is the assumption of beauty coming in at the low end of the previous -7% to -12% range, and nutritional declining MSD (vs. flat to LSD positive growth previously). We believe this implies that housewares (MSD positive growth guidance previously) and health & home (LSD positive growth previously) would have to perform incrementally better than prior expectations, which we view as a positive.

The shares are down 3.3% to $99.31 in recent trading.

The most interestingly titled story came out two days later on 17th November, with the headline “Why Salesforce.com Might Now Suddenly Acquire Twitter Inc (CRM) (TWTR)”. Not only does that make the whole thing sound like a dubious, devious ploy, it also propagates a theory that doesn’t make too much sense.

Twitter, which just announced earnings, is the worst off of these. Its shares are down 67% over the period to $15.58. Earnings for the past quarter showed its user base grew only 1% sequentially, a startling problem when almost all major social media businesses are booming. Monthly active users were only 319 million, up from 317 million in the previous quarter. For the quarter, revenue rose only 1% year over year to $717 million. Twitter’s chance to be bought happened several months ago when Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM) and several other companies showed interest. Salesforce in particular was savaged by investors for its consideration. All potential buyers disappeared.

In at least one Texas bank and one Ohio credit union, 3D video banking is currently undergoing testing, according to TheFinancialBrand.com, a website for bank and credit union marketing executives. Three-dimensional video banking is similar to a consumer video conference with a bank representative –- only in this case, the executive looks like a living, breathing person sitting across from you. Thanks to theater surround sound, the representative also sounds as if they’re in the same room. And since the consumer is interacting with a real person and not an automated hologram, the experience apparently isn’t much different than the real thing.
Banking and managing money isn’t what it used to be. The 1970s and 1980s brought us the rise of the ATM. Consumers became acquainted with online banking during the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s. The 2010s are shaping up as the era of mobile banking.
That was underscored Sept. 10-11 in New York City when Mitek Systems Inc. (MITK), a San Diego-based technology company, debuted its Mobile Photo Account Opening product at Finovate, a trade show where banking tech products are often unveiled. The product allows consumers to open a bank account within 60 seconds. If you have your bank’s app, you can use your smartphone’s camera to take a photo of the front and back of your driver’s license, and presto, your new checking, savings or credit card account is open.

Friday was a good day on Wall Street, as the stock market responded favorably to encouraging news on the employment front. The U.S. unemployment rate dropped on fairly strong job creation during the month of February, and that helped push the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite to modest gains of roughly between a quarter percent and a half percent. Yet even with a positive mood among market participants, some stocks weren’t able to participate in the end-of-week rally. Finisar (NASDAQ:FNSR), Zumiez (NASDAQ:ZUMZ), and Winnebago Industries (NYSE:WGO) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Investment legend John “Jack” Bogle is worried about President Trump’s policies and the massive surge in the stock market.

“I don’t feel super confident in the stock market. By any historical standards, it’s pretty fully valued,” the 87-year-old founder of Vanguard told CNNMoney in a phone call.

Bogle isn’t calling it a bubble yet, but he think stocks are clearly expensive. His view is in stark contrast to another famous investor, Warren Buffett, who recently dubbed the market “cheap.”

Bogle says: “I don’t think it’s a bubble. I think it’s a significant high valuation, but not a bubble.”

He warns that returns in the next decade are likely to be very disappointing (think under 5% a year, instead of the 10% a year historical average).

Still, Bogle doesn’t advise pulling your money out. It’s too difficult to time the market. History has shown those who stay in, win. His own portfolio remains 50% in stocks (Vanguard funds, of course) and 50% in bonds.

TransDigm Group (TDG) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after Citron Research doubled down on its assertion that the company is a manufacturing version of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX).

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    TransDigm Groupdropped 4.2% to $231.37, while the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to 2,372.60.

    From Citron’s report on TransDigm:

Citron predicts that after this report makes its rounds, TransDigms (NYSE:TDG) days of exploiting and deceiving the Federal Government are numbered.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals has recently hit prices lower than some ever thought was imaginable. As Citron observes today, at $12 per share, that stock is down over 95% from its highs just months prior to Citrons reporting on Philidor. The questions then turn to: How did so many smart people get it so wrong? and When could this possibly happen again?”

While we are sure there will be many books written on these questions, we can narrow it down to a small checklist. The smart money got Valeant wrong by:

Disregarding a roiling political climate disrupting “business as
usual” Underestimating the financial frailty of a roll up Discounting the dangers of a small customer base (PBMs) Putting too much trust in the companys CEO…

All points in the above checklist apply directly to TransDigm.

TransDigm Group’s market capitalization fell to $12.2 billion today from $12.8 billion yesterday. It reported net income of $583 million on sales of $3.2 billion in 2016.
