Hot Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now

LM Ericsson Telephone (ERIC)

Welcome. In this article I will give the dollar and cents reasons for how come ERIC looks like a relative bargain in today’s marketplace.

Story

In the trailing ten years ERIC has earned their market cap in free cash flow. This is a signal the company may be undervalued. If ERIC can repeat the performance and earn over $19B in the coming ten years. In a market where many companies are being valued at twice or three times as much free cash flow as they’ve generated over the trailing ten years, this factor alone makes ERIC a relative bargain.

Hot Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Pound/Rand(PX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The last twelve months haven’t been kind to Praxair (PX) and Air Products & Chemicals (APD), but UBS analyst John Roberts and team argue that’s about to change, as they upgrade their shares to Buy from Neutral arguing that their earnings can withstand a slowing global economy:

In our view, the two stocks are more alike than different. NTM P/Es are within ~0.5 pts of each other. Both stocks have declined ~20% from their historical highs the largest corrections in 20+ years aside from the financial crisis…

Industrial gas stocks have normally grown through changes in FX, oil & China demand within normal historical ranges. And investor concerns around China forAir Products & Chemicals may still prove much bigger than reality. Nevertheless, the combination of FX & oil sector impacts on Praxair, and FX & China issues for Air Products & Chemicals, have been much larger than previously seen. With oil already down, the dollar already appreciated, & China concerns already heightened we believe forward basis would appear to carry only normal risks (& lower if FX & oil are mean-reverting, which some theories support).

Normal high single digit EPS growth projected for both in 2017 vs 2016: Four large firms serve 70%+ of the global merchant gas market, and price normally contributes ~2% to growth. Customer older captive units being outsourced contributes another 2%. Hot Blue Chip Stocks To Invest In 2018

The word “growth” is the central word in the phrase Dividend Growth Investing, yet DGI often gets a bad rap as a stodgy method of saving for retirement. I think this misperception arises from the fact that some proponents of the strategy (who may be more focused on income than returns) require a certain minimum yield threshold for their investments. This, in turn, screens many of the higher growth companies from their radar, as higher growth companies generally have lower payout ratios than their slower growth counterparts.

As a result, many of the same old slow-growing blue chips like Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO), Proctor & Gamble (NYSE:PG), and General Mills (NYSE:GIS) are widely held and discussed in the “Dividends” section of Seeking Alpha, while other higher growth opportunities are passed over. This is unfortunate, because there are several very high quality companies that are being disqualified simply because of a lower yield.

These lower yield, higher growth companies can be excellent investments for those with an extended time horizon, and even for retirees they can be a nice boost for a portfolio. For all the angst of wanting enough immediate income, a freshly minted retiree should realize that they are also likely looking at a 20 year time frame for their investments. As the ssa.gov life expectancy calculator shows, a male turning 62 years old in 2016 can expect to live an additional 21.6 years.

Hot Blue Chip Stocks To Invest In 2018: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(GMCR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

As badly as short sellers want to hate on Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), betting against the multiyear rally in this $12.7 billion beverage stock has been about as wise as eating from a box with a skull and crossbones on it. And as a bull market continues to lift all ships, Green Mountain’s ship is going to keep floating above the others.

Green Mountain owns Keurig, the brand of beverage brewers that use self-contained K-Cups to make coffee, teas, and other drinks. While Keurig’s “fad” status has certainly helped tip the deck against GMCR, the fact remains that the firm has done most of the hard work in getting Keurig machines accepted by consumers. With brewers essentially ubiquitous at this point, the firm is able to make money on its cash cow: the K-Cups.

Keurig’s individual-serving cups have big margins and a big installed base. With huge convenience and the relatively large sunk cost that consumers have put into their Keurig machines, it’s a sticky business with big switching costs. Consumers who buy a Keurig are much less likely to spend the money on a competing brand of proprietary coffee pods.

I’ve said before that GMCR is far from cheap right now. But its momentum trajectory is showing few signs of fizzling out, especially as direct competitors such as Starbucks (SBUX) continue to sell K-Cups of their own. Don’t bet against GMCR in September – buy this Rocket Stock instead.

SAN FRANCISCO A 2014 outing by a group of male and female Uber executives to a Korean karaokebar where women with pinned numbers were selected by male guestshas put a controversial member of the ride-hailing company’s top ranks back in the spotlight.

Emil Michael, who in the fall of that yearsuggested that the personal information of journalists who weren’t supportive of Uber be investigated, three weeks ago told a former girlfriend of CEO Travis Kalanick that she should sanitize the story of the outing, according to a report Friday in The Information.

The woman, Gabi Holzwarth, 27, said that Michael repeatedly asked her to keep details of the mid-2014 Seoul outing from reporters, including the fact that the venue featured women with numbers pinned on them. Some of the male Uber executives present selected women to drink with. Holzwarth and Kalanick left after about an hour. J.M. Smucker(SJM) is falling Monday, after Morgan Stanley’sMatthew Grainger and his team cut their rating on the stock, citing pricing pressures from Wal-Mart (WMT) and growing competition from private-labels.

    Getty Images

Grainger slash Smucker to Underweight from Equal Weight, and shaved $6 off his price target, to $126. He also cites what he calls “sustained” challenges in both its coffee and pet food business, as well as“below-average strategic optionality.”

At the same time, he also upgraded Pinnacle Foods (PF) to Overweight from Equal Weight, and raised his price target to $63 from $58, on its double-digit earnings growth and what he sees as superior execution.

Nonetheless, he sees many of the packaged food companies in his coverage, from Smucker to Pinnacle, as subject to pressure from Wal-Mart and off-brand rivals. From the note:

Walmart comprises ~22% of sales across our coverage, a figure that has increased in recent years even as the retailers total grocery sales have grown at an even faster 4% CAGR. With Food margins expected to expand meaningfully, we believe this only enhances Walmart’s negotiating leverage going forward. SJM, Dean Foods (DF), and General Mills (GIS) are most at risk in the current environment, in our view.

Recent scanner data points to a positive inflection in private label trends (share up ~30 bps L12W) across a range of center-store categories, a dynamic we believe could intensify in an increasingly competitive retail grocery landscape. Our analysis of recent trends points to the most meaningful underperformance vs. private label at GIS, SJM, ConAgra (CAG), and Campbell Soup (CPB), while only PF has outperformed in recent weeks.

Smucker is down 1.1% to $127.95 this morning, while Pinnacle is up 0.8% to %48.47.

NEW YORK — Walgreen is moving 120,000 employees to a private health insurance exchange from coverage provided directly from carriers, the company will announce Wednesday.
The pharmacy chain will join 17 other large employers on the Aon Hewitt Corporate Health Exchange as part of a growing movement to offer employees fixed dollar amounts to purchase their own plans on such exchanges.
The end-cost to employees depends on the plan chosen, but they typically get more options than under traditional arrangements. Private exchanges mimic the coverage mandated as part of the Affordable Care Act. Enrollment in the public exchanges starts Oct. 1.
“What happens to employer contributions over time? Will they put in as much as they put in the past? These are unanswered questions but potential negatives,” says Paul Fronstin, a senior research associate with the Employee Benefit Research Institute. The benefit to Walgreen and other employers is unknown at this point, as their cost-savings aren’t clear.
Of the 180,000 Walgreen (WAG) employees eligible for health care insurance, 120,000 opted for coverage for themselves and 40,000 family members. Another 60,000 employees, many of them working part-time, weren’t eligible for health insurance.
Aon Hewitt (AON) says other participants in its program include retailer Sears Holding (SHLD) and Darden Restaurants (DRI). These new additions raise enrollment to 330,000 from 100,000 last year, and Aon Hewitt estimates enrollment will jump to 600,000 next year, a fivefold increase from 2012.
By 2017, nearly 20 percent of employees nationwide could get their health insurance through a private exchange, according to Accenture Research (ACN). A recent report by the National Business Group on Health said that 30 percent of large employers are considering moving active employees to exchanges by 2015.

A very risky Phase 3 drug for high cholesterol, anacetrapib, is listed and is in Phase 3; but several others of the class have failed, and there’s little reason to expect a success here (but you never know). Finally, a partnered heart failure drug that is also in Phase 3, vericiguat, is partnered with Bayer (OTCPK:BAYRY). This compound failed its primary endpoint in Phase 2. Yet, the partners agreed that there was hope for the highest of the three doses. Thus, I view this drug as a very high risk Phase 3 product. Maybe it will be successful and blockbuster, but it’s no sure thing.

Uncertainty stemming from the merger provides several terrible reasons to buy Monsanto at this time.

Hot Low Price Stocks For 2018

When fear and volatility rear their ugly heads, investors will traditionally turn to more conservative investments — such as gold. Presumably, this is what happened during the bitterly fought presidential campaign. In 2016, the price of gold, which ended the year up about 8%, had climbed as much as 28% at one point.

Similarly, many gold stocks enjoyed quite the ride last year — rides that have extended into the new year, leaving some companies trading at seriously low prices. Of course, this doesn’t mean these companies are worthy of investment. So let’s grab our pickaxes and see what we can uncover.

Minding the miners

When considering gold-mining companies’ stocks, it’s important to recognize that the traditional price-to-earnings ratio doesn’t have as much merit. Because of non-cash charges — like depreciation — it’s not uncommon for companies to take large writedowns on their assets, resulting in skewed earnings figures. Yamana Gold, for example, recorded non-cash impairment charges of $2.6 billion. In the company’s annual report, management acknowledged that “the largest contributor to the impairment was the writedown of values relating to exploration landand potential ounces.”

The North Face, in particular, seems like a cautionary tale. The outdoor gear and apparel maker had its IPO in 1996. By 1999 sales were falling and the company put up a $100 million loss. In 2000,VF Corporation(NYSE:VFC) acquired it for just $25.4 million, despite $238 million in sales and a once-popular brand. Today, under the guidance of VF Corp, The North Face now has more than $2 billion in annual sales.

Hot Low Price Stocks For 2018: Pound/Rand(PX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Secular drivers for oxygen include energy savings (i.e. O2 burns more efficiently than air), life sciences (healthcare & microbial processes) nitrogen secular drivers include increasing purity requirements (food freezing & semiconductors). Topline growth ~2x global GDP more normal, with EPS growth ~2x sales growth due to high fixed costs (key variable costs are inexpensive air & power).

America is a nation of borrowers, and while racking up debt can be dangerous at any age, it’s especially hazardous for those heading into retirement.

Because most seniors are behind on savings to begin with, carrying debt into retirement will only strain their already limited budget. Yet a growing number of households are kicking off their golden years with piles of debt — in fact, 20% of borrowers actually expect to die in debt.

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 30% of homeowners aged 65 and older still carry mortgage debt — granted, housing debt is technically the “good” kind to have. However, credit card debt can be particularly detrimental for seniors, and ValuePenguin reports that Americans 65 and older have average credit card balances of $6,351.

While the picture of retiree debt isn’t pretty, the good news is that you can take steps to rid yourself of your nagging obligations in time for retirement. Here’s how.

1. Build up a chunk of emergency savings

Edwards Lifesciences (EW) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after the medical-device company beat earnings and revenue forecasts, and raised its full-year guidance.

    Getty Images

    Edwards Lifesciencesgained 11% to 109.33, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.1% to 2,387.45.

Mogran Stanley’s David Lewis andScott Wang contend that that Edwards Lifesciences is “back on track.” They explain:

US sequential acceleration returns to the prior curve and debunks the bear case. Sequential growth in US [transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR,] in 1Q17 was ~12%, more in line with the ~13.5% average growth rate seen in the five quarters leading up to 3Q16. It’s hard to pinpoint the drivers, but we see several dynamics, including: (i) underlying device utilization thus far in 1Q, (ii) faster ramp at new hospitals where one additional TAVR per center is worth $15mn (~65% of the US upside we saw this quarter), and (iii) less acute competitive pressure from Medtronic (MDT) on larger valve sizes. SURTAVI likely played a limited role but management did not rule it out. Guidance implies a more conservative q/q US growth of ~3% for the rest of the year vs the ~12% this quarter, but underlying strength in the quarter is a material shift in US growth and intermediate penetration. As we stated in our preview, we favored the risk reward into the quarter given achievable expectations and the >20 point lag vs Intuitive YTD and would expect significant recovery tomorrow. Momentum likely continues into 2Q17 as signs of improving intermediate risk penetration provide important offsets to increased competition from Boston in early-2018 before mitral takes hold.

Edwards Lifesciences’ market capitalization rose to $23.1 billion today from $20.9 billion yesterday.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Wednesday was Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) which jumped about 10% to $108.91. Shares of Edwards Lifesciences (EW) jumped to the top of the S&P 500 today after the medical-device maker offered its 2017 guidance this morning at its investor day.

    Getty Images

Shares of Edwards Lifesciences gained 6.7% to $89.31 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.2% to 2,246.19.

Wells Fargo’sLarry Biegelsen offers his take on Edwards Lifesciences’ guidance:

Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (EW-$83.73; Outperform) provided its 2017 outlook this morning (12/8) ahead of its investor meeting today. As expected, the company highlighted its robust pipeline which should drive strong growth for years to come. However, the company now expects Q4 16 revenue to come in at the low end of the guidance range due to currency and weakness in surgical heart valves. The 2017 guidance was generally strong on the top and bottom line, with both bracketing consensus.

For 2017, EW expects sales of $3.0-3.4B and 10-14% underlying growth. This compares to consensus of $3.3B and 12.3% underlying growth (were at 12.6%)… For 2017 EPS, EW expects $3.30-3.45 which includes $0.10 dilution from the Valtech deal (something we highlighted in our preview) and $0.08-0.10 benefit from the accounting change for stock based compensation. Backing these two items out implies guidance of about $3.30-3.45 which compares to consensus of $3.40 and our estimate of $3.41…

As expected, the pipeline updates were highly positive. While the initial reaction to the Q4 guidance will likely be negative, we are highly confident that the strong 2017 guidance and robust pipeline update will be the main takeaways from the meeting today.

No negativity here: Edwards Lifesciences’ market capitalization rose to $19.1 billion today from $17.9 billion yesterday. It reported net income of $495 million on sales of $2.5 billion in 2015.
