Top Performing Stocks For 2019

The S&P 500 is up nearly 7% year-to-date, but the average stock in the index is up just 5.70%. This means the largest stocks in the cap-weighted index are outperforming the smallest names. Even still, two-thirds of the stocks in the S&P are up year-to-date, while 35% of stocks are up more than 10%. Seventy stocks are up more than 20%, while just 25 are up more than 30%.

Shares of Rogers Corp. (NYSE:ROG) gained 19.9% in April 2017, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

The company reported first-quarter results on April 26, sending share prices nearly 12% higher the next day. Rogers saw 27% year-over-year sales growth and 79% higher earnings, leaving analyst estimates far behind in both cases.

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported fourth-quarter earnings last month, and one notable line item on the balance sheet was a sequential increase in the carrying value of its inventory. At the end of 2016, the electric-car maker had nearly $2.1 billion in inventory, a sequential increase from $1.6 billion in the prior quarter.

The breakdown of inventory isn’t disclosed until the subsequent 10-Q or 10-K is filed after earnings, and Tesla filed its 10-K earlier this month. Investors can now see the moving parts.
