Best Medical Stocks To Watch Right Now: Energy Transfer Equity, L.P.(ETE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Management teams tend to be very coy about what they’re working on behind closed doors. Energy Transfer Equity’s (NYSE:ETE) leadership, on the other hand, was very transparent about what’s going on behind the scenes during the company’s first-quarter conference call. They openly answered analysts’ questions, which provided investors with an interesting glimpse into what’s ahead.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Like last quarter, Energy Transfer Partners delivered strong earnings and cash flow growth. Because of that, the company was able to cover its jaw-dropping 12.4%-yielding distribution by a healthy 1.15 times. That slight decline from the year-ago quarter was caused by parent companyEnergy Transfer Equity (NYSE:ETE)significantly reducing its support. For a better comparison, the coverage ratio would have still been a solid 1.1 in this year’s first quarter without any assistance from Energy Transfer Equity, while it would have been a worrisome 0.98 in the year-ago period without the parent company’s help. That improvement isexactly what investors wanted to see this quarter.

  • [By Stephan Byrd]

D.A. Davidson & CO. reduced its stake in Energy Transfer Equity (NYSE:ETE) by 10.7% during the 1st quarter, according to the company in its most recent disclosure with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fund owned 46,328 shares of the pipeline company’s stock after selling 5,550 shares during the period. D.A. Davidson & CO.’s holdings in Energy Transfer Equity were worth $658,000 at the end of the most recent quarter.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

One reason investors are worried that Energy Transfer might need to reduce its distribution is that the company barely generates enough cash flow to support it without the help of its parent Energy Transfer Equity (NYSE:ETE). In 2017, Energy Transfer Partners produced $4.19 billion in distributable cash flow and would have paid out $4.15 billion to investors if it wasn’t for the fact that Energy Transfer Equity relinquished its rights to $656 million of that cash. While that support boosted the distribution coverage ratio from a tight 1.0 times to a more comfortable 1.2 times, it was only a temporary fix since Energy Transfer Equity’s support will diminish significantly in 2018 before declining further in 2019 and 2020.

Top Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now

There are a number of great companies in the market today. The ModernGraham valuation model selected some of the most undervalued Canadian companies. Each company has been determined to be suitable for the Defensive Investor or the Enterprising Investor according to the ModernGraham approach.

Defensive Investors are defined as investors who are not able or willing to do substantial research into individual investments, and therefore need to select only the companies that present the least amount of risk. Enterprising Investors, on the other hand, are able to do substantial research and can select companies that present a moderate (though still low) amount of risk. Each company suitable for the Defensive Investor is also suitable for Enterprising Investors.

Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS)

Celestica is suitable for the Enterprising Investor but not the more conservative Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned with the small size, low current ratio, insufficient earnings stability or growth over the last 10 years and the poor dividend history. The Enterprising Investor is only concerned with the lack of dividends. As a result, all Enterprising Investors should feel comfortable proceeding with the analysis.

While Loop maintains a Buy rating on all of the stocks mentioned above, Guggenheim analyst Michael LaMotte isn’t quite so bullish on the sector. Earlier this week, LaMotte downgraded the following oil services stocks from Buy to Neutral:

Fairmount Santrol Holdings Inc (NYSE: FMSA)

Evercore ISI’s James West and team are starting to feel really good about the potential of the General Electric (GE)-Baker Hughes (BHI) merger. They explain why:

  • [By Brian Wu]

GE recently doubled down on its oil and gas business after merging it with Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHI) and took a majority 62.5% stake in the merged entity. The merged entity is now the second-largest oil services business and will help GE take full advantage of increased oil and gas production under the new administration.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Following a series of M&A announcements in the oilfield-services sector since the onset of the oil market downturn, French oil-field service company Technip and U.S. oilfield equipment company FMC Technologies (NYSE:FTI) hooked up in an all-stock deal valuing the combined company at $13 billion. Shareholders of each company will own 50% of the combined entity, to be named TechnipFMC, which implies a roughly $6.5 billion acquisition valuation for each entity. The transaction, which should close early next year, will “combine Technip’s innovative systems and solutions, state-of-the-art assets, engineering strengths, and project management capabilities with FMC Technologies’ leading technology, manufacturing, and service capabilities.” Further, it should save $400 million in annual costs by 2019. Moreover, it will enable the combined company to compete better against larger oil-field service rivals Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHI), Halliburton (NYSE:HAL), and Schlumberger (NYSE:SLB), which have all gained strength during the downturn either through M&A activities or cost savings initiatives.

top 50 stocks to invest in: Alaska Air Group, Inc.(ALK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

It’s been clear from the beginning that Alaska Air’s (NYSE:ALK) acquisition of Virgin America was bad news for United Continental (NYSE:UAL). Top 10 Performing Stocks To Watch For 2018

As the end of the year nears, companies will start to report their end of the year numbers giving investors the opportunity to find value for their portfolios in 2017. Earlier this week, Nordson Corporation (NASDAQ:NDSN) released its numbers for the fourth quarter of its 2016 fiscal year. The machinery company, with market capitalization of just under $6.00 billion, specializes in a variety of manufacturing technologies across its segments, Adhesive Dispensing Systems, Advanced Technology Systems, and Industrial Coating Systems. After its fourth quarter earnings report, NDSN may have proven that it has the right value for a long-term play in an overbought market.

According to prices on December 14th, NDSN is up almost 80 percent year to date compared to the S&P 500 ETF’s (NYSEARCA:SPY) gain of about 14 percent. The stock has made a bullish run off of three solid earnings reports earlier in 2016, each boosting share prices by about 10 percent. As a mid-cap stock, it’s proven to be a more worthy growth stock as well, outperforming the S&P Mid-cap 400 which has grown by just over 20 percent this year. Currently, the stock is trading at all-time highs caused by bullish momentum from the so called “Trump Rally.” Another rally spurred by the recent earnings numbers could push NDSN even higher as investors opt for a position in the machinery company. How solid is this company? And do the fundamentals justify the technical strength the stock is showing?

Sohu.com Inc. (SOHU), which sold a stake in its search unit to Tencent Holdings Ltd. (700), advanced 11 percent for the week to $72.06. It retreated 5.9 percent Sept. 20. Tencent, Chinas biggest Internet company by market value, paid $448 million for a 36.5 percent stake in Sohus Sogou unit last week and merge its own search service with Sogou.

  • [By Matthew Smith]

Shares in Sohu.com (SOHU) continued their rapid rise, hitting yet another fresh 52-week high during the session, as the company announced the special dividend from Sohou yesterday (press release located here). Sohu.com will receive nearly $161.2 million in the transaction which is part of the overall $400 million deal with Tencent (TCEHY.PK) which was announced not too long ago. These are exciting times in the internet space as we move from computers to mobile devices, but China’s internet landscape looks like the ‘Wild West’ right now and we expect to see further deals as companies jockey for position in their respective niches and consolidation begins as the larger players look to step up growth and gain exposure to new business segments.

  • [By Wayne Duggan]

Sogou is Baidu’s biggest rival when it comes to mobile search engine market share. The app is owned by Sohu.com Inc (NASDAQ: SOHU), and its position as second fiddle to Baidu makes it most similar to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT)’s Bing.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Sohu.com (SOHU) is a Chinese online media, search, gaming, community and mobile service group. This stock closed up 7.5% to $69.61 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 4.90 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 1.01 million

    Volume % Change: 351%

From a technical perspective, SOHU ripped sharply higher here with heavy upside volume. This move pushed shares of SOHU into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance at $67.80. Shares of SOHU are now quickly moving within range of triggering another breakout trade. That trade will hit if SOHU manages to take out Monday’s high of $69.71 to its 52-week high at $70.63 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SOHU as long as it’s trending above Monday’s low of $66.95 or above that first breakout level of $67.80 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 1.01 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then SOHU will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $75 to $80.

Flir Systems gained $2.78, or 8.1%, to close at $36.93.

The company’sdisappointing fourth-quarter earnings report was forgotten when it announced that the U.S. Coast Guard awarded it a $50 million contract.
