    2. Staffing firms could do well as employees look to other options if their employers won’t raise rates along with the trend. Firms like Robert Half International (NYSE: RHI) and ManpowerGroup (NYSE: MAN) would also benefit from higher wages through the fees the companies collect when they place an employee contract.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Staffing agencies like Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE:RHI) and ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE:MAN) may want to look over their shoulder. Though both are bigger and more established, their size and the waning need for physical, human workers in an increasingly-digital and roboticized world ultimately works against both organizations. That paradigm shift doesn’t matter much to a young, up-coming-staffing agency called Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) though. Indeed, the trend of computer-based everything leaves Staffing 360 Solutions in the proverbial cat-bird’s seat. Its fiscal Q2 numbers verify the company is in the right place at the right time.

Those numbers? Revenue of $47.1 million was up 14%, and gross profits of $8.1 million were higher by 8.4% on a year-over-year basis. Moreover, the net loss of $1.5 million was a marked improvement on the year-ago loss of $3.5 million, and the EBITDA of $1.4 million was about the same. Operating expenses fell from 22% of revenue a year earlier to only 17% last quarter, with more such progress on the way.

Perhaps most important, Staffing 360 Solutions saw organic growth of 7%, meaning the top line bumped up by that much not because of acquisitions, but because it’s existing divisions expanded their client base and billings by 7%.

And last quarter’s progress has been the norm for several quarters now.

While STAF is proving outpacing the growth from bigger names like ManpowerGroup and Robert Half International, it can’t come as a complete surprise. Staffing 360 Solutions is focused on the IT sliver of the staffing industry, connecting companies with the technology-skilled programmers, cybersecurity specialists, and computer networking personnel modern organizations increasingly need.

There are several data nuggets that point in the same direction, but perhaps none as telling as a recent conclusion from technology research outfit IDC speaks volumes. IDC believes that by the

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Look out ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE:MAN). And Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE:RHI)? You may want to look over your shoulder as well. A young-and-hungry staffing solutions competitor named Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) is coming on strong, and just proved it again today. Some of its preliminary fiscal Q2 numbers were reported today, and they extend what’s become a long-term growth streak.

The definition of a roll-up isn’t a hard and fast one, though even the broad brush strokes paint a pretty clear picture. Investopedia defines a roll-up (also known as a “roll up” or a “rollup”) a merger that occurs when investors (often private equity firms) buy up companies in the same market and merge them together. Roll-ups combine multiple small companies into something bigger and better to be able to enjoy economies of scale. Private equity firms use roll-ups to rationalize competition in crowded and/or fragmented markets and to combine companies with complementary capabilities into a full-service business.

It’s also the kind of strategy Staffing 360 Solutions is executing, with great success. For the fiscal quarter ending in November, Staffing 360 Solutions has pre-reported revenue of $47 million, and a gross profit of $8.1 million. Those figures are up 14% and 8%, respectively, year-over-year.

Top 10 Canadian Stocks To Own Right Now

2016 was a surprising year…   It was the eighth year of this bull market. But that didn't slow things down.   U.S. stocks jumped 12%. Oil prices soared by 45%. And gold had a wild ride, eventually ending the year up 9%.   With all that happening, you might have missed the major boom that happened in our neighbor to the north… Canada.   Canadian stocks had a fantastic 2016… rising 22%. But history says that boom has gotten out of hand. Double-digit losses are likely this year. And that means now is time to bet against one of 2016's big winners.   Let me explain…   Canadian stocks were a stealth winner last year. The iShares MSCI Canada Fund (EWC) went up 22%… And it soared an incredible 40% from its January low to the end of 2016.   The problem is that Canada's stock market is now incredibly overbought… And that means lower prices are likely.

Bill Ackman: Fifty-year-old Ackmans career began in 1992 when he and fellow Harvard graduate David P. Berkowtiz founded the investment firm Gotham Partners. The firms high-profile bid for Rockefeller Center in New York caused investors to flock to the firm, growing it to $500 million in assets. Then in 2004, with $54 million in personal funding, Ackman started Pershing Square Capital Management. Through Pershing, Ackman bought significant shares in companies like Wendys Co. (Nasdaq: WEN), Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT), Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG), and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX). Today, Ackman is worth $1.4 billion and is No. 256 on the Forbes 400.

2017 has turned out to be a good year for Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc(NYSE:VRX) so far. Shares of thespecialty pharma company have been on atear of late. Valeant stock has gained more than 25% since the end of January compared to over 3% gain in Nasdaq Composite (INDX:COMPX). The stock has gained more than 10% in the last two days. Valeant stock is up another 5% in the pre-market trade today on the news that FDA has approved “Siliq” (orbrodalumab as it was previously known), a drug marketed by Valeant to treat adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.

  • [By Kumar Abhishek] Valeant Pharmaceuticals(NYSE:VRX) stock jumps after the company sold Dendreon for hefty gains.
    Flickr

Shares of Valeant (NYSE:VRX) jumped more than 14% in pre-market trading yesterday, after the Canadian drug maker announced its long-awaited asset sale plans. The stock later gave away some of its gains after Moody’s released a report stating that the asset sales will not impact its credit rating or outlook, though Valeant’s bond prices jumped by 4.5%. Valeant is a classic example of a shareholder value destroyer. Once the darling of Wall Street, the stock has lost more than 90% of its value since its peak in 2014 and is down by more 80% in the last one year. The stock has dragged portfolios of the likes of Bill Ackman and Prof. Aswath Damodaran. However, the asset saleprovides a ray of hope for Valeant’s shareholders.

  • [By Kumar Abhishek]

Shares of specialty pharma company Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc(NYSE:VRX)have tanked more than 20% in last two trading sessions, breaching the support from the 50 day SMA, after the Laval,Quebec-based company reported its Q4 and FY 2016 earnings on Tuesday, before the market opened. While the earnings itself were better than expected, the guidance for FY 2017 didn’t go down well with investors and wall street, earning the company multiple price target cuts. Valeant reported an adjusted profit of $1.26 a share against analysts’ estimateof $1.21. This was Valeant’s first beat in a long time. Even on the revenue front, the company reported better than expected results. Initially, the stock gained on the report of an earnings beat. However, once the guidance figures came in, the stock tanked. In our earnings preview of Valeant, we had said that the adjusted EBITDA guidance for 2017 will be the key driver of VRX stock after the earnings.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

We noted earlier that Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX) has popped today after selling assets for more than $2 billion, beginning what many expect to be just the first round of such sales. BMO’s Gary Nachman notes that Valeant had received “a solid price” for its assets. He explains:

The first transaction is the sale of Dendreon (Provenge) to Sanpower Group for $820mn in cash. Provenge is a treatment for prostate cancer and is not core to Valeant; thus, we are not surprised by this asset sale. We estimate Provenge sales of $306mn for 2016, which translates to a multiple of ~2.7x.Valeant has been struggling to accelerate Provenge since it acquired the product, and given that the company does not have a real oncology presence we think this deal makes a lot of sense.

The second transaction is the sale of CeraVe, AcneFree and AMBI to L’Oreal for $1.3bn in cash. These products are OTC skincare brands that we believe are core to Valeant’s dermatology/OTC business; thus, this deal is more surprising to us. However, with annual combined sales for the three products of $168mn, that translates to a multiple of ~7.7x. We think that is a good price and demonstrates Valeant’s willingness to part with some core assets if the valuation makes sense. We view that as a smart business decision given the urgency forValeant to pay down its significant $30bn debt level more aggressively…

There is still more to go with asset sales, but we view this as a good start for Valeant.

Shares of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International have gained 5.5% to $16.19 at 2:02 p.m. today. That’s a solid gain, but less thanthe 12% rise in pre-open trading, and the 8.8% rise at 10:27 a.m.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Recreational vehicles have hit a stretch of popularity that the industry hasn’t seen since the 1970s, and Thor Industries (NYSE:THO) has found itself in the right place at the right time. The RV specialist has made every effort it can to boost its growth to take advantage of favorable conditions, both by ramping up its existing internal operations and by looking for strategic combinations like its recent acquisition of industry peer Jayco. Coming into Monday’s fiscal second-quarter financial report, Thor investors were looking for very strong growth, and even though the company largely delivered on that front, some concerns about the pace of further gains throughout the rest of the fiscal year weighed on Thor stock after the report.

My pick this week has created a faster, more centralized marketplace for bond traders… and it’s led by a guy who once worked the trading floors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Better yet, recently passed regulations could force traders’ hands in joining this new system.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Watch For 2018

One area of the metals market has seen gains of 458%, 308%, and 305% so far this year.   Like most investors, though, you've probably been too focused on gold and silver to notice.   But I have good news for you: It's not too late to get in on the action…   Thanks to moves to cut competition and increase demand, the steel industry is in the early stages of a massive bull market today.   In May, the U.S. slammed Chinese steel imports with a 522% tax. That means for every dollar of steel coming to the U.S. from China, China has to pay an additional $5.22.   In short, the U.S. believes that China artificially controls steel costs, allowing it to produce steel for far less than U.S. costs. By exporting lots of artificially cheap steel here, China hopes to kill the U.S. steel industry. Hitting China with that massive tariff is one way to prevent that from happening.

Market Exchanges like the CME Group (Nasdaq: CME) have just started allowing trading in bitcoin futures and could attract an entirely new type of retail user as well as allowing institutional clients access to the bitcoin theme. Exchanges make their money on transactional volume, so a bursting of the bitcoin bubble wouldn’t necessarily mean weakness for shares.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Watch For 2018: NEW GOLD INC.(NGD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

The stock market lost ground on Monday, sending major market benchmarks lower by more than half a percentage point. The Dow lost its grip on the 20,000 mark in the wake of concerns about economic growth and new U.S. immigration policy, and some believe that the broader geopolitical climate could have a negative impact on global commerce that in turn could start affecting multinational corporations’ business prospects. In addition, bad news from some individual companies weighed on the markets, and Transocean (NYSE:RIG), Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD), and New Gold (NYSEMKT:NGD) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.
