Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now

Sometimes the headlines steal the spotlight from a more realistic explanation. Hurricane Harvey is just everywhere, and it was pretty bad. But that does not mean it is the beginning and end all for the performance of Chesapeake Energy’s (CHK) stock. Sometimes even the supposedly accurate review of history misses the mark.

Source: Chesapeake Energy JP Morgan Energy Conference, June 2017, Presentation

The company clearly has some direct exposure in Louisiana. But the oil and gas industry has dealt with hurricanes for a long time. Count on this company to be up and running as soon as possible. There may be some vendors more affected than this company. Even so, this industry knows how to bounce back from hurricanes. There is probably a very similar story for the pipelines transporting the product.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: EQT Corporation(EQT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By elliottwave]

EQT Corporation (NYSE: EQT) failed to make new highs and it’s now doing a double three correction from June 2016 peak which already reached the extreme area at $85.17 with enough number of swings to end that cycle. However in the short term, the stock can still extend toward the equal legs area $50.67 from December 2016 peak before buyers show up to resume the rally or bounce in 3 waves at least while holding above $47.10 low

Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM) is still correcting an older cycle from August 2015 doing a flat structure from July 2016 peak and currently at the last leg of wave (C) that could ideally reach the equal legs area $79.88 – $76.72 before the stock start bouncing in 3 waves at least. The flat structure is tricky because it can always extend but XOM needs to hold above $66.55 to continue its multi-year bullish trend.

Large Caps. Our E&P coverage is pricing in $61/bbl WTI and $3.30 gas, and with a lower crude forecast the group is looking less compelling. We argue names that continue to demonstrate resource improvement at the low-end of the cost curve, namely in the Permian and STACK remain attractive, such as Concho Resources (CXO), Devon Energy (DVN), Newfield Exploration (NFX) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). Noble (NBL) remains a compelling value, though has yet to commit to an accelerated US onshore drilling program.

Best Canadian Stocks To Own Right Now

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week scored two big trade wins over President Trump.

On Friday, an independent panel of U.S. trade judges ruled that a Canadian airplane maker, Bombardier, is not hurting Boeing, the top American plane manufacturer.

The Trump administration was set to impose tariffs up to 300% on Bombardier, claiming the company posed a threat to Boeing’s business. Trudeau lobbied heavily to have the tariffs repealed to preserve Bombardier’s jobs in Canada, the United Kingdom and United States.

The decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission effectively shelves Trump’s tariffs on Bombardier’s planes.

Earlier in the week, Trudeau announced that Canada and 10 other nations had revived the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal Trump withdrew the United States from a year ago. Many experts thought TPP was dead without the United States. Leaders plan in March plan to sign the revised TPP, which will remove trade barriers for those 11 countries and leave the U.S. out.

Oil exploration is a risky business. Not only does it cost a lot of money, but the odds of drilling a dry hole are very high. Just ask ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), which recorded $432 million of deepwater dry hole costs last year. It’s a problem the company is working to address by stepping away from deepwater exploration so that it can deliver steadier returns for investors.

Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. That slump came despite OPEC’s best efforts since producing nations have achieved fairly good compliance on their planned output cuts. That said, despite the lackluster oil market, we still see some interestingopportunities in the oil market. Three stocks we really like right now are DistributionNOW(NYSE:DNOW),Phillips 66(NYSE:PSX), andConocoPhillips(NYSE:COP), which all should do well in the current oil market.

When an investor thinks of Canadian gold mining stocks, NovaGold Resources Inc. (USA) (NYSEMKT:NG) and Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) (NYSE:AUY) are often the first names to come to mind. And well they should. Yamana Gold is a $2.5 billion giant, and NovaGold Resources seems to have been around forever.

Taranis develops mineral deposits into mine-ready projects. Its primary project right now — and it’s enough to keep the company plenty busy for the next several years — is the Thor property located near Trout Lake, British Columbia. NI 43-101 resource reports (indicated and inferred)suggest Thor contains 6.9 million ounces of silver, 35,000 ounces gold, 57 million pounds of lead, 79.4 million pounds of zinc and 3.3 Million pounds of copper (roughly a 14 million ounce silver equivalent (“AgEq”) deposit*) laying in wait in a way that lends itself to the establishment of a low-cost, open pit mining operation. That’s roughly $300 million worth of marketable metals, and the estimates have been steadily getting bigger as Tanaris does more survey work.

And 2017 could be a real breakout year for Taranis, as a lot of the work that’s been done to date starts to mean something. It’s got big exploration plans for this year… this spring/summer to be exact.

I recently pinned an article outlining why Allergan (NYSE:AGN) would be a fantastic addition to your portfolio in 2017. Titled “Icahn Sells Allergan: A Rebuttal”, we determined that Carl Icahn has a net zero effect on the company. More importantly though, we determined that Allergan’s shares are inexpensive and their products are strong and growing.

Allergan’s shares have roared to the upside since the first week of December last year. They’ve taken off like a rocket for nearly a 20% gain in less than a month.

Why? Well, the shares were absurdly priced to begin with. On the first of December before the rally initiated Allergan shares were selling below $190. That’s over 10% below Book Value! Obviously this rally could be seen coming.

Pent Up Demand Pushing Cyclical Stocks

We are coming out of a lengthy period of decreased spending in the wake of 2008-09, which has built pent up demand for automobiles, housing and capital expenditures. The average age of vehicles on the road has reached a record high of 11.4 years. Demand for new houses fell off dramatically since the Great Recession. The average U.S. home was built in 1974 and continues to age.
As people have chosen to fix rather than replace their vehicles and homes, we’ve seen the replacement-type industries do very well. Auto Retail’s second quarter sales and earnings per share were up 14.7% and 18.6%, respectively. Home improvement retail grew sales nearly 10% with earnings up 20% from second quarter 2012.
Adding to the pent up demand for housing is the number of young people living with their parents rather than buying or renting on their own. According to real-estate marketplace Trulia, the number of “missing households” (Americans who would currently be owning or renting a home if pre-recession economic trends had continued) was up to 2.4 million in March. More than half of these missing households are 18 to 34-year-olds.
This pent up demand extends beyond just the immediate products being bought by consumers. Businesses have held off replacing durable goods since the recession. All of this excess demand will have to be released at some point. Eventually, these homes and vehicles will exceed their useful life and need to be replaced. To meet the need for the excess demand, companies will not be able to hold off re-investing in new plant equipment.
We’ve seen the beginning of this demand in 2013 and believe there is more to come. The market is buying into this as well, as more growth and manufacturing oriented sectors – such as Consumer Discretionary and Industrials – have performed well over the near-term.
Share prices for stocks in the Industrial sectors are mo

The Bank of Canada kept borrowing costs on hold Wednesday and indicated it’s no rush to pursue aggressive interest rate hikes amid growing global trade tensions and softer housing data.

The statement, which left the benchmark rate at 1.25 percent, repeated dovish language about moving cautiously in an economy that will require continued stimulus. The broader trade comment was new, though policy makers made no explicit mention of U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.

While global growth is “solid and broad-based,” recent developments in trade policy have become “an important and growing source of uncertainty” for the Canadian economic outlook, the central bank said.

Investors have pared bets on rate hikes after a run of soft economic data, turmoil in global equity markets and growing geopolitical concerns. That may increase Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz’s caution about any decision to tighten monetary policy further. While the Bank of Canada has been highlighting risks to the North American Free Trade Agreement for months, the latest language suggests those concerns have evolved.

Best Canadian Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Wells Fargo & Company(WFC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) did an exceptionally good job of making it through the financial crisis in 2008 with minimal damage, weathering the turbulence in its stock price and rising to all-time record highs in the early and mid-2010s. Along the way, Wells Fargo also sought to regain its standing as a strong dividend stock, and it has successfully restored its quarterly payout to levels above what it had paid prior to the crisis. Yet recently, the bank has run into controversy with a scandal involving employees opening fake accounts, and Wells Fargo’s most recent earnings weren’t as strong as the company has seen in the past. Some investors are wondering whether the bank’s track record of dividend increases since the financial crisis could be in jeopardy.
