Hot High Tech Stocks To Watch Right Now

It’s been three trading days since the U.S. Federal reserve hiked interest rates–and the stock market has been moribund ever since.

The S&P 500 declined 0.2% to 2,373.47 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 8.76 points to 20,905.86. The Nasdaq Composite finished little changed at 5,901.53. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has dipped44.24 points, or 0.2%, over the last three trading days.

Ameriprise Financial’s David Joy is already looking ahead to the next rate hike:

The Fed has three remaining meetings throughout the year that are accompanied by updated economic projections and press conferences, in June, September, and December. While the Fed insists that all Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) meetings are live, meaning opportunities for changes in monetary policy, it is widely assumed that the press conference meetings are the more likely candidates. Although some believe the Fed is in danger of falling behind the curve, unless the economic data accelerates sharply, especially on the inflation front, it seems unlikely that the Fed would want to raise again as early as June. Three rate hikes in six months after just one in the previous twelve might be too aggressive a shift in policy. Nevertheless, futures suggest better than even odds that another rate hike will come in June. More likely, the Fed waits to observe conditions a little longer, targeting September for its next move.

Hot Safest Stocks To Buy For 2018

Closed-end funds have become popular in recent years as bond yields have dropped precipitously. As a result, income investors have gone further out on the yield curve to find the kind of yields with CEFs they used to enjoy in the days when bonds were offering higher interest payments.

One of the things my stock advisory newsletter, The Liberty Portfolio, does is find securities that deliver better risk-adjusted returns than you’ll find in the market. This is not an easy task because most investors don’t realize just how much risk they are taking on so-called “safe investments,” even with CEFs.

Hot Safest Stocks To Buy For 2018: Costco Wholesale Corporation(COST)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shanthi Rexaline]

Kroger Co (NYSE: KR) and Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ: COST) are among the other retailers that significantly benefit from SNAP.

Although estimates are not available, beverage giants such as PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. (NYSE: DPS) and The Coca-Cola Co (NYSE: KO) also benefit from SNAP. When there was a move in 2011 to bring about restrictions on SNAP purchases, Pepsi reportedly spent $750,000 in the third quarter of 2011 on lobbying alone.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Costco Wholesale (COST) has risen 9% during the past 12 months of trading, less than half the S&P 500′s 21% gain during the same period. But that underperformance didn’t stop Barron’s Teresa Rivas from urging investors to “put Costco in your shopping cart” in December, or Oppenheimer from calling Costco one of the most intriguing names in large-cap retail last week. Now Goldman Sachs analyst Matthew Fassler and team have added Costco to the firm’s Conviction List, while reiterating their Buy rating. They explain why:

    Getty Images

We believe the company is on the cusp of the earnings acceleration we cited when we upgraded the stock to Buy last spring, aided by its recent credit card deal both the incremental traffic associated with more attractive cashback incentives and expense cushion associated with new terms. We also like the firms attractive positioning as a low-cost/low-priced operator in the challenging retail environment. Our estimates stand above consensus. The stock is trading below long-run relative P/E averages despite the anticipated earnings recovery. Our $187, 12-month price target implies 14% upside.

Shares of Costco Wholesale aren’t getting a boost from the upgrade this morning, however. Its shares have dipped 0.2% to $163.98 at 10:17 a.m. today.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Retail giant Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST) has been an innovator in the big-box retail industry, pioneering and refining the warehouse-shopping concept and honing it into a hugely successful business. Yet even Costco has run into some challenges lately, and coming into Wednesday’s fiscal second-quarter financial report, Costco investors wanted reassurances that the warehouse retailer would be able to sustain its growth. On that front, the retailer disappointed its investors, posting a substantial decline in net income that spurred the company to take action to shore up its main profit center going forward.

  • [By Daniel B. Kline]

Costco (NASDAQ:COST) continues to squander an opportunity by operating as if the internet has not become a major factor in retail.

The company has proven resilient in the face of digital competitors led by Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). While other retailers are shuttering stores, losing sales, and generally fighting for survival, the warehouse chain has not had that problem.

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

This one could be the easiest of advances, both because credit losses are down big and because its credit-card brethren — Capital One Financial, Discover, Visa (V) and MasterCard (MA) — have all had significant rallies. I actually regard this stock as inexpensive and think it can be bought here now that it has fully absorbed the loss of the Costco (COST) business to Visa and Citigroup (C) .

Hot Stocks To Watch Right Now: ManpowerGroup(MAN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Staffing agencies like Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE:RHI) and ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE:MAN) may want to look over their shoulder. Though both are bigger and more established, their size and the waning need for physical, human workers in an increasingly-digital and roboticized world ultimately works against both organizations. That paradigm shift doesn’t matter much to a young, up-coming-staffing agency called Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) though. Indeed, the trend of computer-based everything leaves Staffing 360 Solutions in the proverbial cat-bird’s seat. Its fiscal Q2 numbers verify the company is in the right place at the right time.

Those numbers? Revenue of $47.1 million was up 14%, and gross profits of $8.1 million were higher by 8.4% on a year-over-year basis. Moreover, the net loss of $1.5 million was a marked improvement on the year-ago loss of $3.5 million, and the EBITDA of $1.4 million was about the same. Operating expenses fell from 22% of revenue a year earlier to only 17% last quarter, with more such progress on the way.

Perhaps most important, Staffing 360 Solutions saw organic growth of 7%, meaning the top line bumped up by that much not because of acquisitions, but because it’s existing divisions expanded their client base and billings by 7%.

And last quarter’s progress has been the norm for several quarters now.

While STAF is proving outpacing the growth from bigger names like ManpowerGroup and Robert Half International, it can’t come as a complete surprise. Staffing 360 Solutions is focused on the IT sliver of the staffing industry, connecting companies with the technology-skilled programmers, cybersecurity specialists, and computer networking personnel modern organizations increasingly need.

There are several data nuggets that point in the same direction, but perhaps none as telling as a recent conclusion from technology research outfit IDC speaks volumes. IDC believes that by the

Look out ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE:MAN). And Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE:RHI)? You may want to look over your shoulder as well. A young-and-hungry staffing solutions competitor named Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) is coming on strong, and just proved it again today. Some of its preliminary fiscal Q2 numbers were reported today, and they extend what’s become a long-term growth streak.

The definition of a roll-up isn’t a hard and fast one, though even the broad brush strokes paint a pretty clear picture. Investopedia defines a roll-up (also known as a “roll up” or a “rollup”) a merger that occurs when investors (often private equity firms) buy up companies in the same market and merge them together. Roll-ups combine multiple small companies into something bigger and better to be able to enjoy economies of scale. Private equity firms use roll-ups to rationalize competition in crowded and/or fragmented markets and to combine companies with complementary capabilities into a full-service business.

It’s also the kind of strategy Staffing 360 Solutions is executing, with great success. For the fiscal quarter ending in November, Staffing 360 Solutions has pre-reported revenue of $47 million, and a gross profit of $8.1 million. Those figures are up 14% and 8%, respectively, year-over-year.

Each made smart acquisitions, with TransCanada buying U.S. gas pipeline company Columbia Pipeline Group, while ONEOK is in the process of gobbling up its MLP,ONEOK Partners (NYSE:OKS). While these deals enhanced the growth profiles of both companies, TransCanada still stands out as the better buy for long-term income investors. Here’s why.

The Saudi Aramco IPO timing has captivated investors interested in owning a share of the world’s biggest oil company.

Despite the Saudi government announcing last January it was selling part of its crown jewel oil company, there has been no official Saudi Aramco IPO date. Tentative dates were set for this year, but now Aramco leaders suggest the IPO won’t be until 2019.

That’s because the company’s public offering is uniquely difficult, and one big obstacle is still holding up the IPO.

They praised the companys ongoing cost controls and strong revenue efficiency, which they expect to continue. But still arent ready to recommend the stock amid a difficult macro backdrop. More detail from their note:

Transocean continued to minimize costs and maximize efficiency amid a challenging offshore environment, reporting 4Q16 adjusted EBITDA of $414 million, higher than our estimate of $363 million and consensus of $394 million. The beat was driven by lower than expected costs of $344 million (adjusting for favorable litigation), which came in ~12% lower than our estimate of $385 million and guidance of guidance of $375-385 million. Total revenue efficiency came in at 100.3%, as it was boosted by bonus incentives and possibly effective results from the new contracting model, particularly in the high-spec jackup market. The beat to our estimates was also driven by higher than anticipated revenues, which came in at $805 million, above our estimate of $788 million, but below the consensus estimate of $812 million. We note, our adjusted revenue excludes $169 million in early termination fees during the quarter.
