Cyndee Weston can barely remember the last time she didn’t have to switch health plans during an Affordable Care Act sign-up season. By her count, she has been on five plans in five years.

Every fall, after she has spent months figuring out her insurance plan’s deductibles, doctor networks, list of covered drugs and other fine print, she receives notice that the policy will be canceled as of Dec. 31.

Because her job doesn’t come with insurance, “it’s agonizing going through all the plans and trying to compare,” said Weston, 55, who has diabetes and a history of melanoma. “Every year it’s the same scenario: ‘We’re not going to renew your policy.'”

Under the market-based system set up by the ACA, individuals are encouraged to “shop around” each year to find insurance that better suits their medical needs and income. In fact like Weston, a trade association executive in Sulphur, Okla. they are often forced to do so when plans drop out of the local market or eliminate preferred hospitals and doctors from the network.

The stock market jumped on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average finishing up by triple digits and other major benchmarks following suit with similar-sized gains. Attention once again focused on the oil market, where prices rebounded to climb to new multiyear highs above $71 per barrel. Investors seem to see oil’s strength as indicating stronger levels of economic activity, choosing not to fear any adverse pressure on prices that could result from higher costs for consumers and businesses that rely on energy products. Good news from several individual companies also helped keep sentiment positive. Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:AAXN), TripAdvisor (NASDAQ:TRIP), and iQiyi (NASDAQ:IQ) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG) had tumbled 8% this morning on reports that it had reached a settlement with the Department of Justice over the sale of devices that allow its motorcycles to exceed pollution limits. They have, however, since made a bit of a comeback. The reason, says Wells Fargo analyst Timothy Conder: Harley Davidson is not Volkswagen. He explains:

Associated Press

The Department of Justice (DoJ) and Harley-Davidson announced a settlement relating primarily to sales of Harley-Davidson after-market parts (competition off-road only ”super-tuner”) that allegedly increased pollution from the company’s motorcycles. Under terms of the settlement, which only applies to the U.S., (1) Harley admits no liability in the compromise to the differing interpretation of EPA regulations, (2) will buyback and destroy all ”super-tuners” from U.S. dealers, (3) pay $12MM in civil penalties, (4) spend $3MM to mitigate air pollution. Harley will continue to sell a performance on-road tuner that is EPA compliant. In addition to the combined $15MM in penalties/mitigation, we estimate that the buy-back destruction costs will ~$1MM. We believe investors will look through this settlement as a ”one-time” event impacting cash by less than $20MM.

best stock news: Staffing 360 Solutions, Inc.(STAF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

If there was any lingering doubt about Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF), it was wiped away today. The IT staffing firm’s second quarter numbers verify the long-standing growth trend is still well intact. Better still, even as the top line rises, expense-cuts supported by all the synergies of its recent acquisitions have allowed the bottom line to improve by even more.

Even before today’s official Q2 announcement we knew that last quarter’s revenue would roll in at $47.1 million and gross profits would end up at $8.1 million. Those figures were up 14% and 8.4%, respectively. What we didn’t know about STAF until today is that the net loss shrank from $3.4 million a year earlier to only $1.5 million now. EBITDA of $1.4 million was about the same as the EBITDA of $1.3 million generated in the second fiscal quarter of the prior year.

The progress march continues for Staffing 360 Solutions.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

It’s almost time for the annual Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) shareholder pow-wow. That is to say, the company’s annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for January 26th of the coming year, in New York City. Though nothing too dramatic is on the voting docket, a handful of items will be decided on by STAF owners.

Staffing 360 Solutions is a fast-growing staffing firm. Its focal point is IT staffing. This small company is smartly and cost-effectively acquiring its way into a size and scale by converting a fragmented and less-effective and less profitable group of similar staffing agencies into a cohesive, more profitable singular unit.

It’s paying off too – the proof has been in the rising revenue tally over the course of the past couple of years… a rise that’s been outpaced by the broad improvement of EBITDA and income (which is the point of a scale-up).

The specific numbers: . All told, Staffing 360 Solutions generated $47.8 million worth of revenue last quarter, turned $8.5 million of it into a gross profit, and turned $1.8 million of that into an EBITDA profit. Those were, respectively, improvements of 33%, 34%, and 184% compared to the same quarter a year earlier. Net income improved too. The net loss of $1.3 million was 27% smaller than the net loss of $1.7 million booked in Q1 of fiscal 2016. Profitability – real profitability – is within reach. STAF simply has to stay on the trajectory it’s on. A couple more acquisitions and a little more organic growth could do the trick.

Late next month, shareholders will have a chance to voice their thoughts on where the company should be going… metaphorically and literally. One of the matter being put to a vote is a change of domicile, from Nevada to Delaware; Delaware generally offers a more business-friendly set of operating and tax rules. Another more important matter to be voted on at the meeting is the authorization of more STAF shares, which have been used in lie

  • [By Matthew Briar]

How does the old saying go? Numbers don’t lie? If that’s the case (and it IS true – numbers don’t lie), then Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) remains in the right spot at the right time, and STAF shareholders have much to look forward to.

Staffing 360 Solutions is a young and enterprising IT staffing firm that, for the record, is getting real big, real fast, by smartly and cost-effectively acquiring its way into a size and scale by converting a fragmented and less-effective (and less profitable) group of information-technology similar staffing agencies into a cohesive, more profitable singular unit.

And a recent batch of data confirms that the company is barking up the right tree, so to speak.

The latest round of numbers that bolster the bullish case for STAF are supplied by industry-research group Staffing Industry Analysts. Per the groups monthly Pulse Survey, in January, demand for IT staffing grew 11% on a year-over-year basis, improving on the 5% growth rate this sliver of the temporary-staffing industry saw in January of 2016. That’s the second-best growth pace among several the SIA monitors. Only demand for allied health workers was stronger.

Of course, the news comes as no real surprise to regular followers of Staffing 360 Solutions, who have seen the company grow into a powerhouse, producing $47.1 million in revenue as of the most recent quarter. That was up 14% on a year-over-year basis, and half of that growth was organic (the other half came from smart acquisitions). Shareholders have seen the company grow from essentially nothing three years ago to what will eventually be a company driving $300 million in annual revenue.

It’s not as if Staffing Industry Analysts are the only group out there saying the IT staffing arena is a red-hot opportunity. Technology research outfit recently opined that by the end of 2017, two-thirds of the CEOs of Global 2000 companies will have digital transformation at the ce

  • [By James E. Brumley]

We week ago, IT staffing agency Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) announced some very impressive preliminary second quarter numbers. Revenue of $47 million was up 14% year-over-year, while gross profits of $8.1 million grew 8% compared to year-ago levels. In both cases, the growth extended a long-term trend.

As impressive as the forward progress for STAF was, though, it still wasn’t the whole story, nor were they the official numbers for the quarter in question. Per this weekend’s press release, Staffing 360 Solutions will give us the official version of the rest of the story on Wednesday of this week — the 11th — in the morning, shortly before a conference call slated for 9:00 am that morning. That announcement will add net income, EBITDA and operational cash flow numbers to the information shared last week, and should extend growth trends on those measures as well.

Staffing 360 Solutions is putting together bigger IT staffing firm at the ideal time. A recent report from technology research outfit IDC, determined that by the end of 2017, two-thirds of the CEOs of Global 2000 companies will have digital transformation at the center of their corporate strategies. How are they going to make that happen? Deloitte recently posted some research of its own that should shed some light on the idea. The giant accounting form observed that “In order to maintain the competitive pace of innovation, companies find themselves engaged in a global war for talent.”

That’s a trend also observed by the Department of Labor, which in its 2014-2024 occupational outlook handbook noted: “Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are expected to add about 488,500 new jobs, from about 3.9 million jobs to about 4.4 million jobs from 2014 to 2024, in part due to a greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Staffing agencies like Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE:RHI) and ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE:MAN) may want to look over their shoulder. Though both are bigger and more established, their size and the waning need for physical, human workers in an increasingly-digital and roboticized world ultimately works against both organizations. That paradigm shift doesn’t matter much to a young, up-coming-staffing agency called Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) though. Indeed, the trend of computer-based everything leaves Staffing 360 Solutions in the proverbial cat-bird’s seat. Its fiscal Q2 numbers verify the company is in the right place at the right time.

Those numbers? Revenue of $47.1 million was up 14%, and gross profits of $8.1 million were higher by 8.4% on a year-over-year basis. Moreover, the net loss of $1.5 million was a marked improvement on the year-ago loss of $3.5 million, and the EBITDA of $1.4 million was about the same. Operating expenses fell from 22% of revenue a year earlier to only 17% last quarter, with more such progress on the way.

Perhaps most important, Staffing 360 Solutions saw organic growth of 7%, meaning the top line bumped up by that much not because of acquisitions, but because it’s existing divisions expanded their client base and billings by 7%.

And last quarter’s progress has been the norm for several quarters now.

While STAF is proving outpacing the growth from bigger names like ManpowerGroup and Robert Half International, it can’t come as a complete surprise. Staffing 360 Solutions is focused on the IT sliver of the staffing industry, connecting companies with the technology-skilled programmers, cybersecurity specialists, and computer networking personnel modern organizations increasingly need.

There are several data nuggets that point in the same direction, but perhaps none as telling as a recent conclusion from technology research outfit IDC speaks volumes. IDC believes that by the

Jefferies announced on Tuesday that it has upgraded Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. (PEG).

The firm has lifted its rating on PEG from “Hold” to “Buy,” and has raised the company’s price target from $36 to $37. This price target suggests a 12% increase from the stock’s current price of $32.42.

Analyst Paul Fremont commented: “We are upgrading to Buy based on the improving outlook for regulatory approval of the company’s “Energy Strong” capital spending program.

“Each $1.0 billion of incremental spending will add an estimated $0.10 to PEG’s earnings. We assume that incremental spending is funded by debt and by incremental cash expected from the increasing gas basis differential between the Leidy hub and New Jersey. Our new estimates are considerably higher than consensus in 2014-16.”
