Top 5 Heal Care Stocks To Watch Right Now

There’s a veritable hurricane of events–not to mention an actual hurricane–that should be rocking the market–but stocks barely moved today as investors wait for the U.S. payrolls data tomorrow.

The S&P 500 ticked up 0.1% to 2,160.77 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 12.53 points, or 0.1%, to 18,268.50. The Nasdaq Composite declined 0.2% to 5,306.85.

Rhino Trading’s Michael Block considers the market’s lack of action:

…global markets continue to stumble around in a tight band, unable to break out or just plain break, it seems. Yesterday we saw a nice rally driven by bullish oil inventories and talk of an OPEC meeting before the meeting next week. That was undone by chatter that the German government was seeking discreet talks with the U.S. authorities on Deutsche Bank (DB). Thats code for they need to fix that before everyone gets sick, and fixing things means short term pain.

Top 5 Low Price Stocks To Buy Right Now

A strategic mistake made six years ago by celebrity CEO Ron Johnson continues to haunt popular retailer JC Penney, as evidenced by the ongoing sluggish sales growth and store closings that have made the company smaller—a fraction of what it once  was.

Meanwhile, investors have been bailing out from the company’s stock, which trades in the middle single digits — a long way from the upper 30s, where it was trading back in 2012.

JC Penney’s woes began with a change in the retailer’s pricing strategy –replacement of coupon sales with everyday low prices.

The old pricing strategy has been popular among retailers, because it hypes shoppers, making them feel smart and encouraging them to talk with other consumers about it. That’s how hype and buzz for merchandise begins and spreads in the shopper community.

Top 5 High Tech Stocks For 2019

The thing is, boys can’t fly. No matter how much they believe.

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda may not say that on Wednesday, when he speaks at an annual BOJ conference in Tokyo. But he’s been forced to acknowledge it, at least implicitly, since famously invoking Peter Pan in a speech at the same event three years ago.

“I trust that many of you are familiar with the story of Peter Pan, in which it says, ‘The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it,’" Kuroda told the gathering on June 4, 2015. "Yes, what we need is a positive attitude and conviction.”

Kuroda will host this year’s conference, whose theme is "central banking in a changing world.” Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, will deliver the keynote speech.

“It would be so out of place if Kuroda made the Peter Pan speech today,” said Masamichi Adachi, a senior economist at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and a former BOJ official. “The BOJ has learned that trying to influence expectations doesn’t really work. In Japan, it seems it doesn’t work unless everyone believes in inflation.”

Here are a few more notable items from the week.

First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) completed 18 MW of solar farms in Thailand with Prime Road Group. This is a module supply agreement from First Solar and is an example of the strategy it’s moving to in the long term. Look for more projects in which the company supplies equipment but a third party does construction and owns the project. Speaking of supply agreements, First Solar signed a 140 MW module supply agreement in Australia this week. The project will begin construction in April, so this will be a source of revenue for First Solar this year. Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) sold three utility-scale solar projects totaling 59.8 MW to Fengate Real Asset Investments this week for $195.3 million. This helps monetize assets on the balance sheet, reducing risk for the business in 2017.

That’s all for this week in solar. Earnings season in the industry starts next week, so we’ll be able to see how strategies and trends are playing out in what’s sure to be an exciting 2017.

Costco or Sam’s? The debate has raged for years and typically involves a pricing breakdown of each warehouse retail giant. But what most comparisons fail to cover are all the intangibles that a membership brings things like the return policy and member services that you probably didn’t know exist until now. Here’s how the two warehouse giants stack up so you can make an informed decision:

Return Policy (Winner: Costco)

Costco has alegendary return policy which states they’ll allow you to return any item, at any time, no questions asked.

Unfortunately, their policy was abused in recent years, especially on electronics, and has changed to a 90-day return policy on computers, TVs, tablets, cameras, cellphones, and the like. But what makes Costco’s return policy so amazing is that you can bring items back for a full refund without the original packaging, and without your receipt, as they have a record of all your purchases in their system. I was recently able to bring back a Keurig coffee maker that stopped working six months after I purchased it, and they gave me full refund, no questions asked. The only items you flat-out can’t return at Costco are alcohol, cigarettes, and special orders.
