Monday was a relatively positive day for the three major U.S. exchanges, but trading volumes were low as this is a truncated trading week. Crude oil was negative on the day. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The best performing sectors were industrials and financials, up 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were health care and utilities, down 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively.
Crude oil was down 0.6% at $56.23.
Gold was down 1.5% at $1,277.10.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Monday was Incyte Corp. (NASDAQ: INCY) which traded down about 6% at $98.96. The stocks 52-week range is $98.49 to $153.15. Volume was over 2 million versus the daily average of 1.8 million shares.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Monday was Delphi Automotive PLC (NYSE: DLPH) which rose over 3% to $102.27. The stocks 52-week range is $60.50 to $104.09. Volume wasover 2.5million compared to its average volume of 1.6 million.
