Best Undervalued Stocks To Own For 2019

On June 12th, Dynavax Technologies (DVAX) CFO Michael Ostrach spoke at William Blair’s 38th Annual Growth Stock Conference. Ostrach provided useful updates on commercialization effort surrounding Heplisav-B, the company’s FDA-approved best-in-class Hepatitis-B vaccine. He also provided some valuable color to the results of the recently concluded Phase 1/2 study of lead immuno-oncology pipeline candidate SD-101 for the treatment of advanced melanoma in combination with Merck’s (MRK) blockbuster platform therapy Keytruda.

Ostrach’s presentation offered some further incremental insights, if no groundbreaking revelations. It succeeded in further cementing the case that Dynavax is woefully undervalued.

In this research note, we sift through the nuggets of new information to give an up-to-date picture on the prospects of this exciting biotech stock.

Heplisav-B Soldiers On

The update on the Heplisav-B commercialization effort added some news and details, but the overall story remains largely unchanged. The company still projects rapid uptake over the next several quarters, with the real gains beginning in 2019, with profit inflection expected by the end of that year. The market opportunity has always been tremendous, with the two-dose Hepatitis B vaccine an obvious best-in-class product.

Best Undervalued Stocks To Own For 2019: Corning Incorporated(GLW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Cochrane and Sarah Priestley]

Headlines around Corning (NYSE:GLW) simmered down a few years ago, but the specialty materials manufacturer hasn’t stopped chugging along since then.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) isn’t a flashy, headline-grabbing tech stock, but it supplies key components to technologies we use every day. Its specialty glass goes into LCD screens large and small, its fiber optic cables play a key role in the modern telecommunications infrastructure, and its Gorilla Glass can be found in a wide array of smartphones.

  • [By Peter Graham]

Back on December 5th of 2013, we added Corning (GLW) to our list around $16 and change. The stock ended up moving to a high of just over $25 per share early last year for roughly a 50% gain. Well, the stock has since come off again trading all the way back down to under $16 per share back in August of last year, before finding its way back up above $18 just yesterday. The context here is two-fold. First, the valuation metrics for GLW are once again suggesting another undervalued opportunity for a Company that is the clear leader in specialty glass and ceramics.

News stories about Corning (NYSE:GLW) have trended somewhat positive on Saturday, according to Accern Sentiment. The research group rates the sentiment of news coverage by monitoring more than 20 million blog and news sources in real-time. Accern ranks coverage of public companies on a scale of negative one to positive one, with scores nearest to one being the most favorable. Corning earned a media sentiment score of 0.14 on Accern’s scale. Accern also assigned headlines about the electronics maker an impact score of 46.5441860761987 out of 100, meaning that recent news coverage is somewhat unlikely to have an effect on the company’s share price in the next few days.

Wall Street had another good session on Thursday, with further gains for major markets as benchmarks like the Russell 2000 index of small-cap stocks flirted with record highs. A favorable reading from the consumer price index showed only modest growth in prices, and the idea that inflation remains in check led market participants to believe that the Federal Reserve won’t have to speed up its efforts to return short-term interest rates to more normal levels. Yet even with the overall market picking up ground, some companies had bad news that weighed on their share prices. Booking Holdings (NASDAQ:BKNG), Exelixis (NASDAQ:EXEL), and L Brands (NYSE:LB) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

Larger utility Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) has leaped to the rescue, agreeing to acquire SCANA. However, it will walk away from the deal if its terms aren’t agreed to by regulators, specifically regarding the nuclear power mess. Moreover, because of the circumstances around the nuclear issue, it isn’t clear that regulators will approve the deal. At this point, there are two potential outcomes for dividend investors drawn to SCANA’s hefty 7% yield. The Dominion deal gets approved and the all-stock transaction reduces dividends received by SCANA shareholders by around 9%. Or, the deal fails and SCANA’s weak financial state leads to a dividend cut or, worse, a complete suspension.

Investors willing to invest in utilities have some options. They can buy one — or several — stocks of related companies, such as Dominion Energy (NYSE: D), for example.

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Many major utilities are now ramping up investments in cost-saving, margin-boosting energy efficiency programs. In fact, there’s a strong correlation between the most ambitious renewable energy investment strategies and energy efficiency programs. Some utilities have a lot of catching up to do.

Xcel Energy (NASDAQ:XEL) has saved 13,000 GWh of electricity consumption across its network over the years, including 9,000 GWh since 2005. The company has an ambitious plan to retire coal-fired power plants and build new wind and solar power capacity, which, when coupled with energy efficiency, could allow it to generate 45% of its electricity from renewables in 2027. Additionally, fuel-related expenses would drop from 47% of capital investments in 2010 to just 28% in 2027. That would free up more cash flow for dividends or growth projects — or both. PG&E (NYSE:PCG) recently filed a plan to retire an aging fossil fuel power plant with distributed solar and energy efficiency programs, as discussed on a recent quarterly conference call with investors. The utility also offers some of the most ambitious customer rebates in the country, with up to $5,500 per household. Southern Company (NYSE:SO) has saved 2,700 GWh of electricity consumption across its network since 2000. By 2020, it will have invested $1 billion total in energy efficiency programs, although that lags well behind more ambitious peers. Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) was ranked second to last among all utilities in the country in energy efficiency by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. That leaves plenty of room for improvement. A recent report suggests it’s possible to reduce new home energy consumption in Virginia (the company’s home state) by 60%, saving the utility billions in capital investments in the next decade by avoiding the need to build new facilities. Those efforts could also save customers $1.7 billion, but the utility’s most recent plan does not prioritize energy efficien

Hot Tech Stocks To Invest In 2019: Yandex N.V.(YNDX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Monday was a positive day on Wall Street, as major benchmarks jumped following an uneventful weekend, tapering their gains as the session came to a close. Some had feared that China might retaliate once again after the U.S. issued a second round of tariffs against the nation with the world’s second-largest economy, but the expected fireworks didn’t come, putting market participants more at ease. The beginning of earnings season in the next week will also distract investors from geopolitical issues, perhaps allowing indexes to climb further. Top 10 Medical Stocks To Watch For 2019

The dividend stocks that investors like most do two things: They pay ample dividends to their shareholders, and they increase the amount that they pay consistently over time. The truly best dividend stocks go a step further, making dividend boosts a habit that investors can bank on year in and year out.

Once dividend stocks get a reputation for excellence, they generally like to keep it. It’s not a sure thing, but that desire to keep up their streaks should give Medtronic (NYSE:MDT), Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT), and General Mills (NYSE:GIS) the incentive they need to reward their shareholders with a higher quarterly payout within the next month.

Banking on medical devices

Medical-device maker Medtronic has a strong reputation among dividend investors, and it has the longest streak of annual payout increases among these three stocks. The company currently yields 2.3%, and it’s made dividend hikes for 40 straight years. Last year’s dividend raise of 7% got paid out to shareholders in late July, with the company having announced the imminent increase on June 23. That pattern extends back for years, with declarations of higher dividends typically coming in mid- to late June.

Walmart is trying out a similar tactic with pork supply chains in China, but it’s far from the only company dipping its toe in the space.

  • [By Matthew Cochrane]

After enjoying a spectacular 2017, shares of Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) have struggled in the first half of 2018, declining almost 11% year to date. At first glance, this fall is more than understandable: The company has suffered two consecutive quarters of earnings losses and, last quarter, even showed negative free cash flow. However, once investors look under the hood, they can see that some of these concerns might be overblown, and that several catalysts could propel the shares higher in the years to come.

GLW’s debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.20 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Along with this, the company maintains a quick ratio of 3.30, which clearly demonstrates the ability to cover short-term cash needs.

Top 5 Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Liquidity Services Inc.(LQDT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Liquidity Services Inc. (NASDAQ: LQDT) was raised to Buy from Underperform, and the price target was raised up to $45 from $28.50, at Merrill Lynch.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Liquidity Service (LQDT) is an online auction marketplace for surplus and salvage assets. This stock closed up 14.9% at $34.44 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 1.60 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 402,622

    Volume % Change: 336%

From a technical perspective, LQDT skyrocketed higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $30.94 with strong upside volume. This move briefly saw shares of LQDT trend back above its 200-day moving average at $34.60, before it closed just below that level at $34.44. Shares of LQDT are now quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade. That trade will hit if LQDT manages to take out Monday’s intraday high of $35.21 and then once it clears some more near-term overhead resistance at $35.71 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in LQDT as long as it’s trending above $32.67 or above $31.60 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 402,622 shares. If we get that breakout soon, then LQDT will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $38 to $40.90.
