Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now

The FAANG stocks are among the most widely held equities — people like to invest in what they know, and they sure know Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google parent Alphabet. But they don’t always love them, and lately, Facebook has struggled due to a number of scandals that have cost it some trust and affection. As a result, its stock is trading significantly below last summer’s highs, even after its rebound so far in 2019. But is the social media giant undervalued at this point?

In this segment from MarketFoolery, host Chris Hill and analyst Emily Flippen address a listener’s question on that topic, and try to gauge the business, and where the stock would be if the market were a bit more dispassionate in its valuation.

A full transcript follows the video.

This video was recorded on Feb. 21, 2019.

Chris Hill: Question from Ben Miller in Lawrence, Kansas. He writes, “I listen every day. Great show!” Thank you, Ben! “I own nine stocks with a heavy position in Facebook. It’s at $162 a share right now. Do you think it is significantly undervalued like I do?” Great question! If Ben thinks it’s undervalued at $162, then he definitely thinks it’s undervalued today at $160, down a little bit from when he sent his email.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Watch Right Now: Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation(COG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo, Jason Hall, and Tyler Crowe]

Tyler, Jason, and I (Matt here) were recently discussing why natural gas stocks have taken it on the chin over the past year. While some have been the victim of their own mistakes, shares of many of the country’s largest gas-focused producers have lost value even though oil prices have been on the upswing. For example, the country’s leading gas producer, EQT Corp. (NYSE:EQT), has seen its stock tumble more than 20%, while other large gas-focused companies such as Antero Resources (NYSE:AR), Cabot Oil & Gas (NYSE:COG), and Southwestern Energy have declined between 5% and 15% over the past 12 months. Those sell-offs caught our attention. Here’s what we think is weighing down gas stocks these days.

  • [By Logan Wallace]

Comerica Securities Inc. acquired a new stake in Cabot Oil & Gas Co. (NYSE:COG) during the first quarter, according to its most recent 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The firm acquired 103,688 shares of the oil and gas exploration company’s stock, valued at approximately $2,486,000.

  • [By ]

Cabot Oil & Gas (NYSE: COG) has a strong position in the Marcellus Shale, a low-cost region for natural gas production that puts the company’s break-even around $2.00 per mcf against spot prices around $2.80 per mcf. The company owns the rights to an additional 3,000 drilling locations within its undeveloped footprint which gives it the potential to increase output easily.

Hot Cheap Stocks To Buy Right Now

The U.S. House subcommittee on environment heard testimony on April 13 with that would eliminate the Obama-era Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS) and replace it with higher octane gasoline. This may be counter-intuitive, but the auto industry is getting behind the idea.

Most gasoline sold in the United States today has an octane rating between 87 and 94. For consumers, the higher the octane rating the higher the cost. The price differential between regular and premium gasoline has jumped in recent years to around 50 cents a gallon or even more. If the only gasoline available were rated at 95 octane and cost, say, 50 cents or even 25 cents a gallon more than regular gasoline now costs, there would be a lot of unhappy American drivers.

It turns out that the cheapest way for automakers to improve a vehicle’s mileage rating and reduce its carbon emissions is to adjust the engine to run at higher compression ratios. That boosts efficiency (mileage) by using more of the energy in gasoline. Raising the octane level at which an engine runs most efficiently is much cheaper than developing new multi-gear transmissions or variable compression turbo-charged engines such as the new VC-Turbo from Nissan.

Top 5 China Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Three big Western companies are investigating allegations that prisoners in China made packaging bearing their brand names.

Household products group 3M, and fashion retailers H&M and C&A are responding to an article published by the Financial Times last week in which a British corporate investigator who was imprisoned in China said he witnessed fellow inmates making packaging that carried the names of the companies.

Peter Humphrey was arrested in China in 2013 on charges that his risk consultancy firm illegally acquired private data of Chinese citizens while doing work for corporate clients. He has consistently denied the charges, but was found guilty in 2014 and spent nearly two years behind bars.

“Our men made packaging parts. So much for corporate social responsibility,” Humphrey wrote in the Financial Times article, referring to his fellow prisoners. “I recognized well-known brands — 3M, C&A, H&M.”

Humphrey wrote that the firms involved may not have known prison labor was being used to make their products. The inmates earned about 120 yuan ($19) a month for their work, he added. That’s a fraction of average wages in China’s vast manufacturing industry.

Hawaiian Electric Industries (NYSE:HE) was downgraded by analysts at Zacks Investment Research from a buy rating to a hold rating. According to Zacks, “Hawaiian Electric kick started 2018 on a mixed note. While the company’s first-quarter earnings came in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate, revenues beat the consensus mark. The company is the largest provider of electricity in the state of Hawaii, as a result of which it outperformed the broader industry in past twelve months. It continues to make systematic investments in utility infrastructure development projects, primarily adding new generation facilities, replacing aging infrastructure and restoring transmission and distribution assets. However, Hawaiian Electric depends heavily on third-party suppliers for fuel and purchased power. With the Federal Reserve set to hike interest rate thrice in 2018, Hawaiian Electric’s operational performance may get hampered in coming days. Fluctuations in the oil price in the global market tend to push up Hawaiian Electric’s expenses.”

stock market top stocks: Newfield Exploration Company(NFX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The large cap E&Ps we cover raised ~ $6.5 billion of equity in 2015 and are likely to consider additional issuance in 2016. Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) raised $1.3 billion on January 5th and Hess Corp. (HES) raised $1.5 billion of equity/equity-linked earlier this month. We think highly leveraged companies such as Devon Energy,Encana andRange Resources (RRC) and companies with a large deficit (before asset sales), such asAnadarko Petroleum and Devon Energy, are most likely to consider raising equity. Additionally, we believe companies such as WPX Energy (WPX), Southwestern Energy (SWN), Marathon Oil, Continental Resources (CLR),Noble Energy and Newfield Exploration (NFX) could issue equity while several levered companies may be unwilling or unable to access equity markets. We do not think Apache, Canadian Natural Resource, EOG Resources (EOG), Occidental Petroleum orPioneer Natural Resources are likely to issue equity this year.

Large Caps. Our E&P coverage is pricing in $61/bbl WTI and $3.30 gas, and with a lower crude forecast the group is looking less compelling. We argue names that continue to demonstrate resource improvement at the low-end of the cost curve, namely in the Permian and STACK remain attractive, such as Concho Resources (CXO), Devon Energy (DVN), Newfield Exploration (NFX) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). Noble (NBL) remains a compelling value, though has yet to commit to an accelerated US onshore drilling program.

Wednesday was an up-and-down day for the stock market, which lost substantial ground early in the day only to climb back toward the unchanged mark by the end of the session. A slight rise for the Dow Jones Industrials led to yet another record-high close, and although other major market benchmarks weren’t quite as lofty, they nevertheless finished with only modest losses on the day. Generally favorable news and sentiment helped the market bounce back during the day, but some stocks still finished lower. Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX), Global Blood Therapeutics (NASDAQ:GBT), and Nautilus (NYSE:NLS) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.
