Best Cheap Stocks To Watch For 2019

Last week I  looked back at the six big market themes we discussed back in January. Today I want to talk about the final two.

First, here’s a review of the four themes we’ve discussed so far, and then I’ll talk about the final two themes, gold and Japanese stocks:

Theme number 1: “Central banks are in control, be long stocks.” Now we have a handoff from central banks to pro-growth fiscal policies, which creates fundamental change. And with fundamental change, we should see much higher stock prices in 2017.

Theme number 2: “China’s currency manipulation would come home to roost.” China reversed course on allowing its currency to strengthen in early 2014, and has since gone back to its ways of devaluing the yuan as an answer to its struggling economy. And with the incoming administration there is finally the will and credibility to fight China’s cheap currency policies. The question is, will it end badly. If the global economy continued its malaise, I would say yes. If growth emerges, I think it gives China an opportunity to liberalize policies and build a more balanced economy (everyone wins).

Hot Medical Stocks To Buy For 2019

Investors have jumped onto the marijuana bandwagon in droves. Even the tiniest of cannabis companies are attracting attention, and some of their share-price increases have been nothing short of spectacular. For those who prefer to get diversified exposure to the marijuana sector, the ETFMG Alternative Harvest ETF (NYSEMKT:MJ) has held itself out as a first-moving marijuana-focused exchange-traded fund for U.S. investors. Already, the ETF has attracted more than $700 million in assets, and the recent gains for cannabis stocks make it likely that the fund will bring in even more money, especially given its 50% rise in the past six weeks.

Alternative Harvest holds nearly 40 stocks, including not only marijuana producers but also pharmaceutical and biotech companies looking at the potential uses of cannabis in the medical profession and consumer-oriented companies that have expertise in selling smokeable products. Yet four of those marijuana stocks really stand out for their impressive performance so far in 2018. All four have doubled this year, and they all seem to have potential for further growth in the future.

The Top Stock Market Stories for Tuesday
Last night, President Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore. This was the first meeting between a sitting American president and a North Korean leader. Following the agreement, analysts noted that the document signed by both parties included no concrete details for achieving denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula. Trump responded to criticism by saying he is fully confident that the Korean dictatorship will follow through. A U.S. district court will rule on whether to approve an $85 billion merger between AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX). The decision comes after about six weeks of debate in a courtroom. The ruling will likely have a significant impact on the proposed bid by The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) for media giant Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. (NYSE: FOXA). The Fed Open Market Committee kicks off its June meeting today. The U.S. central bank is expected to raise interest rates for the second time in 2018. On Wednesday, U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will likely announce a hike of 0.25% to the benchmark rate to 2%. This would also mark the seventh hike since December 2015. Markets will be looking for clues during Powell’s conference to determine how many additional times the Fed plans to raise interest rates during the final six months of the year.

Best Value Stocks To Own Right Now

In this episode of Motley Fool Answers, hosts Robert Brokamp and Alison Southwick want to focus on one question — but it’s a big one, especially for long-term investors: When should you sell a stock? To provide the answer, they’ve tapped Motley Fool Chief Investment Officer Andy Cross and Ron Gross, the advisor for Motley Fool Total Income.

In this segment, though, having covered the topic of selling in general, they tackle some questions from listeners. Among them: Is Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) overvalued? What was your worst “failure to sell” situation? And how has your investing style changed since you became a Fool?

A full transcript follows the video.

This video was recorded on Aug. 14, 2018.

Ron Gross: A lot of good questions have come in. I think we have some time to tackle some of them. This first one is going to be so painful, though. Painful is in the question. “Please describe a painful ‘failure to sell’ situation you found yourself in.” Any former investors in Horsehead Holding in this room?

Best Value Stocks To Own Right Now: Archrock, Inc.(AROC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Oil and gas infrastructure specialist Archrock (NYSE:AROC) and its former subsidiary Archrock Partners were once a textbook case of an overaggressive business that got rocked by crashing oil and gas prices. The company bet heavily on the need for compression horsepower to force oil and gas from wells to pipelines, and took on considerable leverage to do so. When demand dried up from lower production volumes, Archrock was stuck with a fleet of inactive compression equipment and a massive debt load.

Accern also gave headlines about the energy company an impact score of 47.3449329112104 out of 100, indicating that recent media coverage is somewhat unlikely to have an effect on the stock’s share price in the next few days.

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

After years of struggling with the precipitous decline in oil prices and an onerous debt load, management at Archrock (NYSE:AROC) decided to bite the bullet and buy out its subsidiary master limited partnership Archrock Partners. According to management, the deal would free up some cash and lower its cost of capital. The combination of these two things would make it easier to grow the business and take advantage of the monumental growth of natural gas production in the U.S.

Hot Financial Stocks To Own For 2019

Federal law requires public companies like Wells Fargo to warn shareholders about non-routine legal proceedings.

Yet it has now emerged that Wells Fargo stayed silent for at least six months about the fact that authorities were investigating the bank’s creation of fake accounts.

Wells Fargo (WFC) confirmed on Thursday that it was in talks with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau about unauthorized accounts as early as March 2016. This comes after the Charlotte Observer obtained emails under the Freedom of Information Act that revealed the discussions between the bank and the regulator.

The revelations will intensify questions over why Wells Fargo never alerted investors in public statements or public filings about the risk posed by what turned out to be a damaging investigation.

Wells Fargo’s September settlement with the CFPB and other regulators tarnished the storied bank’s reputation, hurt its stock price, led to the sudden retirement of CEO John Stumpf and included $185 million in fines.

best stocks currently: Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.(NCLH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH) was up nearly 7% on Wednesday afternoon, following its fourth-quarter earnings report.

Norwegian said that it earned 56 cents a share, a penny ahead of analysts’ expectations. Revenue rose 8.5% to $1.13 billion, also squeaking past the $1.11 billion consensus estimate.

For the full year, Norwegian said it expects to earn between $3.75 and $3.85 a share, with a midpoint a penny above the $3.79 average analyst estimate. It’s first-quarter EPS guidance of 36 cents also came in ahead of the 34-cent consensus.

Instinet analyst Harry Curtiswrites that after recent missteps, it was “vital” for Norwegian’s forecast to meet expectations but not seem too optimistic, a balancing act he believes the company achieved.

He reiterated a Buy rating and $52 price target on the stock:

NCLHs 2017 EPS outlook ($3.75 to $3.85) brackets our forecast ($3.75) and the Streets ($3.79). However, we believe there could be upside to that range, given the positive booking and pricing trends so far this year. We remain positive on the shares of NCLH, which we believe should continue to outperform through 2017.

Norwegian was recently up 6.8% to $51.49.
