Top 5 High Tech Stocks To Buy For 2018: Nestl茅 S.A. (NSRGF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

A recently updated map from HowMuch.net ranking the world’s most valuable brands by country in 2017 shows that Apple Inc. (AAPL) lost its spot as the US’s most valuable brand. Of these, the top 10 most valuable brands with shares or ADRs traded in the US are:

US-based search engine and Google parent Alphabet Inc (GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Swiss food giant Nestle (OTCPK:NSRGF) Korea’s Samsung Electronics (OTC:SSNLF) – part of a larger group of Samsung brands China’s (and the world’s) largest bank ICBC (OTCPK:IDCBF) Japanese automaker Toyota (TM) Irish medical equipment maker Medtronic (MDT) Royal Dutch Shell, the oil company (RDS.A) Royal Bank of Canada (RY) Spanish bank Santander (SAN), and Hong Kong-based insurer AIA (OTCPK:AAGIY)

In 11th and 12 place, by market cap, are British telecom Vodafone Plc (VOD) and German automaker BMW (OTCPK:BMWYY), whose brands are valued at 2-4x AIA’s according the map, but whose market caps trade at significantly lower multiples in the current market environment.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

In sum, the three companies are equally valued at generous multiples. It is difficult to choose one of them based on fundamentals or valuations, but we like the strategy of Nestl茅 and P&G more than Unilever. Therefore, we recommend investing in these companies only if someone is interested in a limited but relatively safe upside potential. Good entry prices would be as follows: Nestl茅 (OTCPK:NSRGF) at CHF 70.1 or $70.1 for the ADR , P&G at $83.6 and Unilever (OTC:UNLVF) at 34.1 or $38 for the ADR (NYSE:UN).

The North Face, in particular, seems like a cautionary tale. The outdoor gear and apparel maker had its IPO in 1996. By 1999 sales were falling and the company put up a $100 million loss. In 2000,VF Corporation(NYSE:VFC) acquired it for just $25.4 million, despite $238 million in sales and a once-popular brand. Today, under the guidance of VF Corp, The North Face now has more than $2 billion in annual sales.

Today, the Wall Street Journal reported that Kate Spade & Co is considering a sale of the company, following pressure from activist investors given the volatile performance ever since Kate Spade became a mono brand company over 2 years ago. The article cites thatKate Spade has hired an investment bank and has reached out to possible buyers (including other retailers) althoughKate Spade has not responded. This comes at a time when brand houses like VF Corp. (VFC), PVH Corp. (PVH), Hanesbrands (HBI), Michael Kors Holdings (KORS), and Coach have said they are looking to make a branded acquisition, andKate Spade could be one of the strongest candidates. While other brands are seeing negative comps, pulling back on wholesale exposure or restructuring,Kate Spade continues to grow.

Top 5 High Tech Stocks To Buy For 2018: Cliffs Natural Resources Inc.(CLF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market rebounded sharply on Thursday, making up for losses earlier in the week. Major benchmarks were up around 1% following solid earnings performances from several key companies, and some optimism about the possible fate of Trump administration policy on issues like corporate tax reform also helped turn around negative sentiment from previous sessions. Strength in the labor market was also a positive, and individual stocks Select Comfort (NASDAQ:SCSS), SLM Corp. (NASDAQ:SLM), and Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

No matter how much a commodity company like Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF) tries, its fate will almost exclusively be in the hands of commodity prices. In the case of this past quarter, Cliffs was dealt a tougher hand as iron ore prices declined again. That may be enough to get some investors to head for the hills, but there were also some very promising signs that the company is setting itself up for a better long-term future.

TheDow Jones Industrial Averagelost just 5 points, or 0.02%, while other broader market indexes saw similar small declines. But several individual stocks delivered outsized positive returns today, including FireEye (NASDAQ:FEYE), Penn National Gaming (NASDAQ:PENN), and SUPERVALU Inc. Net earnings from continuing operations was $12 million versus $20 million. The CEO commented:

Hot Energy Stocks To Invest In 2018

This is the kind of stock market "divergence" that I like to see…   Master limited partnerships (MLPs) recently fell more than 4% over five days… while oil prices rose.   Whenever I see a crazy divergence like that, I usually ask one question: "What happens next?"   We looked back to see what happened to these companies after previous divergences like this. The results shocked us…   MLPs soared 28% in one year and 53% in the two years following similar divergences. If history repeats (or even rhymes) this time around, then you could make some real money.   Let me start with a brief explanation of MLPs…   MLPs are not oil companies. Instead, they're the gatekeepers and toll collectors in the energy industry. Specifically, they own energy-infrastructure assets like pipelines or storage terminals. And their business structure allows them to avoid paying corporate taxes.

Hot Energy Stocks To Invest In 2018: Transocean Inc.(RIG)

The company had no specific news, but consolidation in the offshore drilling business is not a positive for Transocean or any other driller still standing by itself.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market lost ground on Monday, sending major market benchmarks lower by more than half a percentage point. The Dow lost its grip on the 20,000 mark in the wake of concerns about economic growth and new U.S. immigration policy, and some believe that the broader geopolitical climate could have a negative impact on global commerce that in turn could start affecting multinational corporations’ business prospects. In addition, bad news from some individual companies weighed on the markets, and Transocean (NYSE:RIG), Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD), and New Gold (NYSEMKT:NGD) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

General Motors Co.’s (NYSE: GM) Chevy Bolt may be the best reviewed electric car in America. It has just won the Motor Trend 2017 “Car of the Year.” However, sales of the car are likely to be weak. Electric car buyers are few and far between.

Motor Trend editors wrote:

For only the second time in the awards’ seven decades, the sound of electrical energy being converted into motion and the sound of the automotive world shifting on its axis convinced the MOTOR TREND judges to select the Chevrolet Bolt EV as this year’s Car of the Year winner.

The Bolt EV was the first battery-powered vehicle to be conceived by GM to be a viable, affordable, mass-market, game-changing electric car, and just two numbers show why. The EPA has certified the Bolt EV will travel 238 miles on a full charge, and it costs only $29,995 after taking into consideration a $7,500 federal tax rebate.

Following a week of testing at the Hyundai-Kia Motors California Proving Ground, the MOTOR TREND judges found, “the most impressive thing about the Bolt EV is that there are no caveats and no ‘for an electric car’ qualifiers needed in any discussion. It is, simply, a world-class small car, and that’s before you factor in the benefits inherent in the smoothness, silence, and instant-on torque provided by the electric motor.”

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now: CGG(CGG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Lisa Levin]

CGG SA (ADR) (NYSE: CGG) shares shot up 32 percent to $7.15 after the company reported an agreement in principle on financial restructuring plan with main creditors and DNCA.

  • [By Lisa Levin]

Friday afternoon, the energy sector proved to be a source of strength for the market. Leading the sector was strength from CGG SA (ADR) (NYSE: CGG) and Geospace Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: GEOS).

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

First up is French oil service firm CGG Veritas (CGG)
. The Eurozone-based energy stock hasn’t exactly posted blockbuster performance in 2013, but investors who ignore CGG for the final stretch of the year could be making a big mistake. That’s because of a bullish technical pattern that’s emerging in shares right now.

CGG spent most of the last eight months looking anything but bullish. But an ascending triangle pattern is changing that. The pattern is formed by horizontal resistance to the upside at $26, and uptrending support to the below shares. Basically, as CGG bounces in between those two technical levels, it’s getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakout above $26. When that happens, traders have a buy signal.

The ascending triangle pattern in CGG Veritas isn’t exactly textbook. That’s because the setup is forming at the bottom of a downtrend, rather than in the middle of an uptrend – but it’s a mistake to get caught up on the textbook pictures of what trading patterns are supposed to look like. On a move through $26, the trading implications are just as actionable.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now: Phillips 66(PSX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sarfaraz Khan]

Also note that Berkshire Hathaway has direct exposure to the US energy sector through its subsidiary Berkshire Hathaway Energy, which is a power company that also owns two interstate natural gas pipelines. Besides, Berkshire Hathaways stock portfolio also has some exposure to the energy sector. The company owns 80.7 million shares of Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX), a major US-based refiner that is also expanding in the midstream space, valued at almost $7 billion. Phillips 66 represents more than 5% of Berkshire Hathaways stock portfolio. The conglomerate also owns 20 million shares of the pipeline giant Kinder Morgan (NYSE:KMI), valued at $414.2 million. These energy companies are positioned to benefit from Donald Trumps pro-energy policies and de-regulation.

  • [By WWW.KIPLINGER.COM]

Refiners and downstream energy stocks have really gone to town as oil prices have listed lower in a relatively tight range. Phillips 66 (PSX) is among those winners.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo, Tyler Crowe, and Jason Hall]

Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. That slump came despite OPEC’s best efforts since producing nations have achieved fairly good compliance on their planned output cuts. That said, despite the lackluster oil market, we still see some interestingopportunities in the oil market. Three stocks we really like right now are DistributionNOW(NYSE:DNOW),Phillips 66(NYSE:PSX), andConocoPhillips(NYSE:COP), which all should do well in the current oil market.

  • [By Virendra Singh Chauhan]

Another piece of the Berkshire puzzle which could ride a tailwind is the investment in oil major Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX). With OPEC recently making a move to support oil prices with supply cuts, a rising oil price will benefit the oil major which made up just over 5% of Berkshire’s stock holdings at the end of the September quarter. PSX stock price is up 11% over the last one month and could be headed further higher if the demand/supplydynamics of the oil market are brought under control. • [By Joel South and Taylor Muckerman]

In today’s segment, Joel South talks about an intriguing development from EQT Corp. (NYSE: EQT  ) and Green Field Services, where the companies drilled a multistage fracked natural gas well in the Marcellus shale using 100% field natural gas. Using natural gas from close wells instead ofdieselto power rigs could be another game changer as oil and gas companies continue to increase drilling efficiencies and thereby significantly lower costs.

  • [By Gary Jakacky]

On the other hand, our economy shows more strength by the day. Oil prices remain stuck in a five year range. Natural gas prices are testing new lows: successful fracking techniques recently announced by EQT Corporation (EQT) in Seeking Alpha (10/17/2013 @ 2:29 PM on Market Currents) could cut over $1.5 billion from the costs of drilling for gas, as well as assuage "environmentalist" concerns about fracking. Fuel is a major cost for transportation companies. So maybe IYT can catch a third breath?

Tech heavyweight Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is on the move, threatening to lift out of its two-month consolidation range as it coils up beneath its 50-day moving average. Shares have been languishing near $145, a level first reached back in May, after the so-called “FAANG” technology stocks got hit with selling pressure back in early June.

There is no specific catalyst for the rebound, merely the appearance of some “buy-the-dip” confidence after Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen wrapped up her two-day semi-annual testimony to Congress.
