Top 10 Undervalued Stocks For 2019: Diana Shipping inc.(DSX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

That helps to explain why shares of Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) and Diana Shipping (NYSE:DSX) are up 36% and 28%, respectively, since the beginning of April. Both performances easily beat the 5% return of the S&P 500 in that span. However, even the healthy gains made recently don’t come close to erasing the losses accumulated in recent years, as both shipping leaders are down over 34% in the last three-year period.

Meanwhile, shipping peer DryShips Inc.’s (NASDAQ:DRYS) stock has rocketed higher, more than doubling in price over the span. There are good reasons for that advance, but it doesn’t make DryShips the better investment option. Here’s why Diana Shipping is the better company if you are interested in the volatile shipping space.

The deal with Weichai Power, moreover, is noteworthy in that it distinguishes Ballard from its fuel-cell peer, Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG). Although the material handling equipment market has been its bread and butter, Plug Power has made inroads in broadening its reach into the electric-vehicle market in the U.S., and management is keen on expanding its footprint in China. On the company’s recent Q2 earnings call, however, management noted that it has failed to find a worthy partner. It seems, therefore, that in the race to the Chinese electric-vehicle market, Ballard has taken the pole position.

Fortunately, the stocks Berkshire Hathaway is selling are revealed every quarter in a 13F report it files with the Securities and Exchange Commission. According to its latest disclosure, Verisk Analytics (NASDAQ:VRSK), Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX), American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL), and United Continental (NYSE:UAL) all fell out of favor at Berkshire Hathaway last quarter.

Riding the wave of enthusiasm for alternative power, Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) has made great strides in bringing its hydrogen-power solutions to the materials handling equipment market. Thanks, in part, to deals with the world’s largest retailers like Walmart and Amazon, Plug Power has grown its top line at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21% over the past 10 years. This is no small feat considering that Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP), which is arguably Plug Power’s greatest fuel-cell competitor, has only grown its top line by an average of 8% annually over the same period.

The stock market came out of Labor Day weekend on a sluggish note, but it recovered ground by the end of the session to finish close to where it had started. Lingering doubts about the status of trade discussions with key trading partners initially caused major benchmarks to fall around half a percent in the morning. Once again, though, stocks proved their resiliency, and investors seemed more comfortable with the idea that corporate earnings would remain strong at least through the end of the year. Moreover, some strong showings from key stocks helped lift sentiment. Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD), Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP), and El Pollo Loco Holdings (NASDAQ:LOCO) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: MGE Energy Inc.(MGEE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Utility stocks are generally considered conservative investments that reward shareholders over the long term with sizable dividends that grow slowly and steadily over time. With the S&P 500 Index’s yield hovering around 2%, the bar for yield is set pretty low today. That said, investors should think twice before jumping at utilities like UGI Corporation (NYSE:UGI), Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE:ATO), and MGE Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ:MGEE), which offer little if any yield advantage over an S&P 500 Index fund.

After testing the 6,000 mark for a couple of weeks, Bitcoin is back big time. The &a;ldquo;people&a;rsquo;s currency&a;rdquo; gained close to 11% over the last seven days, heading to the $7,000 mark.

Is this comeback sustainable?

Hard to say. There are barely any &a;ldquo;fundamentals&a;rdquo; to determine whether Bitcoin is undervalued or overvalued at these levels.

Still, there are a couple of bullish signs for the digital currency worth noticing.

The company has benefited in recent quarters from aggressive cost-cutting under its Renew Blue program and has seen stronger demand due to increased consumer spending. Other retail results this morning seemed to receive a more positive view from investors, at least early on. Lowe’s Companies, Inc.(NYSE: LOW) and Tiffany & Co. TIF shares spiked more than 12 percent after the company crushed the Street’s expectations on both top- and bottom-lines. Same-store sales rose 10 percent, an impressive performance that speaks well for U.S. tourism since many people shop at the company's iconic New York store.

Top 5 Undervalued Stocks To Watch For 2019: Activision Blizzard, Inc(ATVI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By John Ballard]

On the surface, Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) has had a good year so far, with record revenue and earnings generated through the first half of 2018. But there’s one metric that’s coming up short: monthly active users (MAUs), which is the company’s way of measuring its audience reach with its games.

  • [By Danny Vena]

The surge in popularity of the battle royale genre has created an opportunity for investors to benefit from the craze. Here’s why I believe NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), Tencent Holdings (NASDAQOTH:TCEHY), and Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) are best positioned to profit from this growing trend.

  • [By John Ballard]

That leads me to why the Battlefield delay could actually work in EA’s favor. This fall is expected to be one of the busiest seasons for game releases in recent history. Take Two’s Red Dead 2 is releasing in late October and is expected to be one of the biggest sellers of the year. There are also high expectations for Activision Blizzard’s (NASDAQ:ATVI) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which releases on Oct. 12. Pushing back Battlefield V’s release date into November may allow it some breathing room next to these other big releases, which could help the game’s sales in the short term.

  • [By Chris Lange]

Activision Blizzard Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) is still at the top of the list. Wedbush believes that the company could earn $3.00 as early as this year by optimizing King’s untapped ad opportunity and monetizing its Overwatch League. While Wedbush has modeled more modest earnings for 2018, the firm believes that Activision’s new investments have the potential to significantly expand its margins and profits for the next several years.

  • [By Steve Symington]

As for individual stocks, more pronounced moves from both Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) and Yum China (NYSE:YUMC) kept investors on their toes today.

Top 5 Energy Stocks To Own Right Now

It’s been another rough week for Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM). The stock is down 8.64% since the beginning of the year and the energy giant is the biggest loser of just five Dow stocks trading down for the year to date.

The share price closed the week up $1.38 compared with the prior week, mostly on the strength of comments by the company’s CEO.

Exxon’s new CEO, Darren Woods, will leave a good deal of his predecessor’s plans in place, but he is making some major changes as well. Woods said last week that 2017 production would rise from a prior estimated range of 4 to 4.2 million barrels a day to a new range of 4 to 4.4 million barrels. That’s barely unchanged from 2016 production and marks a significant change in the company’s strategy.

Exxon will spend about a third of its planned capital budget of around $25 billion on shale plays this year. Boosting production from shale is much cheaper and far less costly than developing massive deepwater or other conventional plays. Woods believes that investing in shale will generate cash flow more quickly without diluting returns. Because Exxon is vertically integrated it could capture more value than a producer who has to settle for the wellhead price of crude.

Top 5 Energy Stocks To Own Right Now: Phillips 66 Partners LP(PSXP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.KIPLINGER.COM]

As PSX has grown as a refining outfit, it has added midstream assets pipelines, terminals, rail lines and storage farms. Owning pipelines and gathering systems is a great way to generate cash flows. Phillips enhanced that by placing them inside of its master limited partnership, Phillip 66 Partners LP (PSXP). That way, PSX is preparing to keep its profits even when oil does inevitably rise.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The other highlight this quarter was the midstream business. That segment benefited from a full quarter of Phillips 66’s recently completed Freeport LPG Export Terminal as well as a turnaround in results at DCP Midstream (NYSE:DCP). After causing the company to record a loss on its investment last quarter, the DCP Midstream investment was back in the green this quarter, benefiting from hedging and lower costs. Meanwhile, the company’s other MLP investment, Phillips 66 Partners (NYSE:PSXP), delivered another steady quarter thanks to that entity’s focus on owning stable fee-based assets.

In 2016, PAA partnered with Phillips 66 Partners LP (NYSE: PSXP) to build a $15 million pipeline expansion between Oklahoma and Canada. The new pipeline adds capacity for 100,000 more barrels of oil a day.

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Phillips 66 Partners (NYSE: PSXP) was raised to Buy from Neutral with a $60 price target at Goldman Sachs on December 18. The units were last seen trading at $51.23, and the 5% yield would represent a total return of over 22% if the firm is correct. The 52-week range is $44.40 to $58.00, and the consensus price target is $59.43.

All good things must come to an end, and for all but the last 10 minutes ofFriday’s market, it looked like today would be the day thatthe Dow Jones Industrials would finally break its streak of record highs. Yet a last-minute boost sent all three major market benchmarks into the black, and in the absence of news moving the market to finish the week, positive market sentiment was enough to keep stocks climbing. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Natural gas had been under pressure all year, especially after this past February was the warmest since 1954. By mid-March, gas had lost a quarter of its value because of an oversupplied market. However, it awoke from that slumber toward the end of March thanks in part to the triumphant return of winter, which pounded parts of the nation with a major late-season snowstorm. That storm drove up demand for gas, sending the stocks of several gas producers soaring late last month, including Rice Energy and larger rivalsChesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) and Southwestern Energy (NYSE:SWN), which both rose more than 5%.
