Markets had expected consumer spending to increase, however home improvement sales were not the major factor that most expected. This was evident from The Home Depot’s earnings report. Markets are increasingly optimistic over U.S. trade negotiations with China. Breaking news

Accenture Plc (NYSE: ACN) reported upbeat earnings for its second quarter.
Five Below Inc (NASDAQ: FIVE) reported better-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter on Wednesday.
PVH Corp (NYSE: PVH) posted upbeat earnings for its fourth quarter and issued a strong earnings forecast.
Conagra Brands Inc (NYSE: CAG) reported stronger-than-expected earnings for its third quarter.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We rate CONAGRA FOODS INC as a Hold with a ratings score of C+. The primary factors that have impacted our rating are mixed – some indicating strength, some showing weaknesses, with little evidence to justify the expectation of either a positive or negative performance for this stock relative to most other stocks. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, revenue growth and growth in earnings per share. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, generally higher debt management risk and disappointing return on equity.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

Following 1) the recent sale of its Private Brands segment, 2) the announcement of the spin-off of Lamb Weston, 3) commentary around improving its margin structure in the Consumer segment, and 4) management’s recognition that the company has not raised its dividend in years, we think CAG is heading in the right direction. For income-oriented investors, note that CAG has a great deal of cash coming in from the Private Brands sale, and that management has stated its commitment to a strong dividend. As noted above, CAG is our best idea heading into new year.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

The debt-to-equity ratio is very high at 2.34 and currently higher than the industry average, implying increased risk associated with the management of debt levels within the company. Along with this, the company manages to maintain a quick ratio of 0.25, which clearly demonstrates the inability to cover short-term cash needs.

investment websites: Flowers Foods, Inc.(FLO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Consumers across the nation know Flowers Foods (NYSE:FLO) from its Wonder bread, Tastykake snack cakes, and Nature’s Own bakery brands. Yet the truly novel thing about Flowers is how it has done such a good job of building up a national presence in an industry that is typically dominated by local competition. Coming into Monday’s fourth-quarter financial report, Flowers investors were hoping to see at least some growth in sales and earnings, but the bakery company wasn’t able to deliver the pace of expansion that most shareholders really want to see.

great stocks to buy

Kuka (OTCPK:KUKAF) with its ADR OTCPK:KUKAY is one of the leading robotic companies based in Germany. The company is a flagship of the so-called “German-Mittelstand.”

In 2015, KUKAF generated revenues of 3bn with an EBITDA of 259m (margin of 8.6%) and a net income of 87m. Furthermore, KUKAF is a really stable company with strong capital structure and a great business model.

Market sentiment for M&A plays influence Kuka – without any reason

Chinese investors have made in the recent past further takeover offers for Aixtron (OTCPK:AIXXF) (NASDAQ:AIXG), Osram (OTCPK:OSAGF) (OTC:OSAGY) and last but not least Kuka. The German government has, after they already permitted the deals with Aixtron and Osram, withdrawn the permissions. These decisions are, as the saying goes, mainly driven by concerns of the US regarding any military potential of the mentioned target companies following Thomson Reuters.

This influence was transferred to the Kuka deal as well, but without any further reasons. From my point of view, there are a few main points why the deal will take place.
