Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Own For 2018

Some investors are ready to write the obituary for the market phenomenon known as risk on, risk off. Long-suffering stock pickers might be tempted to do some grave dancing.

Risk on, risk off, known by the unfortunate acronym, RORO, was a dominant feature of financial markets in the aftermath of the 2008-2009 crisis. It meant that assets perceived as risky, such as stocks, commodities, and nongovernment bonds, tended to either rally or sell off in lockstep. Assets perceived as safe tended to do the same, but in the opposite direction.

Top Warren Buffett Stocks For 2018

One of the biggest challenges for investors is filtering out bad, useless or even costly “information.” I have a method for screening out the noise and using my time more effectively. Part of it is keeping the TV on mute and using TIVO to check out anything that is really significant. You can also just skip articles that obviously do not meet the test.

Here is a good starting list of what to ignore. Feel free to suggest additions.

The Hindenburg Omen – or any other method using BO (i.e., backtested overfitting) and failing the smell test. Commentary from people who are famous for being famous – their websites confuse media appearances with credentials. Tobin’s Q – a great idea fifty years ago, but not relevant for modern companies. Bond guys’ opinions about stocks – don’t ask your barber if you need a haircut (Warren Buffett) Stock guys’ opinions about bonds – see above. PMI data lacking multiple business cycles – you have to start somewhere, but we do not need to believe it. Recession predictions from some “expert” who cooked up a model last week – too few cases, too many variables.

You can save many hours and also avoid some bad decisions by rejecting this useless and harmful noise.

Gary Cohn at the World Economic Forum in Davos, January 2015

In a private meeting with lawmakers yesterday (April 5), Trump’s economic advisor Gary Cohn said he supported a policy that could radically reshape Wall Street.

You see, the former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) exec now supports a re-imposition of the Glass-Steagall Act – an idea that the U.S.’ two main political parties support — but that the country’s top banks loathe.

This is a change of heart for Cohn. In February, the investment banker voiced his disdain for bank regulation measures when he said it was time to “attack the red tape of Dodd-Frank” in a FOX Business interview. Dodd-Frank is a less onerous regulation than Glass-Steagall. Bank stocks soared as investors considered the prospect of billions of dollars flowing back into their pockets. In fact, Goldman Sachs saw a jump of 1.29%.

Blue Apron Holdings Inc. (NYSE: APRN) stock has been trading for about a month, and a slew of bullish Wall Street ratings and Blue Apron stock price predictions were just released. However, Money Morning experts believe those predictions are dangerously wrong…

The meal-kit delivery service stumbled as a public company right out of the gate with a stock issue price some 40% below estimates. That was thanks in part to the giant Amazon.com Inc. Weekend dining and lunch were very strong for Darden, parent of Olive Garden, even though CEO Gene Lee acknowledged that it’s competing against “new necessities today, whether smartphones, whether it’s your cable bill, your Netflix bill. I mean, they have increased significantly over the years.” Hmm, is there any wonder why takeout pizza is so strong? Makes me want to buy both Darden and Domino’s (DPZ) .

stock market game: Panasonic Corporation (PCRFY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Clean Technica reported on September 1 that “Sony is entering the EV battery manufacturing industry”. And “considering that electric vehicle batteries are going to be the main supply bottleneck for the upcoming auto market’s embrace of EVs, the entry of Sony into the field is very notable. Most of the other manufacturers (Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY), LG Chem (OTC:LGCLF), etc.) already have more or less all of their production capacity locked up for the coming years – meaning there’s not much left for the auto manufacturers that are running behind, thereby limiting potential EV sales for the firms in question. Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) entry into the field should open things up a bit more”. Certainly a good move by Sony and helpful for the EV companies that will find themselves in need of batteries, and limited availability, should EVs reach 10% by 2020.

A Unilever vs. Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY) showdown seems to be something out of an alternative, weird universe. But that’s exactly what has been happening in the Asia-Pacific region, where Unilever is now a major seller of air and water purification devices. The acquisitions of Qinyuan and Pureit water purifiers, as well as the acquisition of Sweden-based Blueair in 2016, reflects Unilever’s latest growth strategy of reducing exposure to low-growth brands in favor of greater investments in higher-growth products with strong social and environmental credentials.

SMMYY is a subsidiary of the Sumitomo Group. SMMYY is a major smelter and refiner of copper, nickel and gold in Japan, and has a 27.5% stake in the Ambatovy Nickel Project in Madagascar, along with Sherritt International and Korea Resources Corp. Feedstock for the refinery is nickel cobalt mixed sulphide from its Taganito and Coral Bay mines in the Philippines (noting the Philippines is a risky supply source at this time). Sumitomo supply Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY) who supply Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA); however, this can change. Generally, I like the stock; however, at this time, valuation looks full, trading on a 2017 PE of 32.8, and 2018 PE of 14.8. Good to buy after a pullback if that occurs.

During the early stages of a new innovation, interdependent architectures and integrated companies best optimize performance and functionality. This trend has played out in computing and handsets, and we see the same trend playing out in EVs. We find Tesla and BYD1 , by far, the most vertically integrated players in EVs, with huge scale advantages. In addition, LG Chem, Panasonic (PCRFY), Samsung SDI, BYD, and CATL are clear scale leaders in batteries (CATL is not publicly traded. All but Samsung SDI and BYD are not covered by Bernstein.).
