Best Low Price Stocks To Watch Right Now

Betting on bargain stocks that have a low price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is a convenient and common investment approach. The perception is that the lower the P/E, the higher is the value of the stock. This inference is drawn on the simple logic that a stock’s current market price does not justify (is not equivalent to) its higher earnings and therefore has room to run.

Naturally, there are very few investors who pay attention to stocks with an increasing P/E. But this often-overlooked trend can prove useful in finding great stocks. Let’s dig a little deeper.

Why Stocks with Rising P/E Can be Equally Hit

Investors should note that stock prices move in line with earnings performance. If earnings come in stronger, the price of a stock shoots up. Solid quarterly earnings and the forward guidance in turn boost earnings forecasts, leading to stronger demand for the stock and an uptrend in its price.

So, if share price is rising steadily, it means that investors are assured of the stock’s fundamental strength and expect some strong positives out of it. Also, studies have revealed that stocks have seen their P/E ratios jump over 100% from their breakout point in the cycle. So, if you can pick stocks early in their breakout cycle, you can end up seeing considerable gains.

Then, like most small caps, it took a big breather, which brings us to where we are now…

As you can see in the weekly chart below, the stock has traded in fairly volatile fashion within a pretty wide range ever since about October of last year. However, nothing has really fundamentally changed all that much with the Company since it went on a tear months ago. Actually, things have gotten a bit better

Top 10 Value Stocks To Buy For 2019

The big day is rapidly approaching. In just over a month, on Oct. 17, recreational marijuana will go on sale in licensed dispensaries throughout Canada. When fully legal, the sale of adult-use weed is expected to usher in high demand and big dollar figures for the industry.

In anticipation of this legalization — and the big profits that are projected to follow — marijuana stock investors and Wall Street have pushed the valuations of many pot stocks into nosebleed territory. Some of these marijuana stocks are still valued modestly below Wall Street’s consensus price target per share. Conversely, there are a handful of top marijuana stocks whose price targets are well below their current share price. Keeping in mind that Wall Street price targets are nothing more than dart throws by analysts, here are three top marijuana stocks that are expected to lose at least a quarter of their value.

Top 10 Value Stocks To Buy For 2019: lululemon athletica inc.(LULU)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Demitrios Kalogeropoulos, Jeremy Bowman, and Steve Symington]

With that in mind, Motley Fool investors scoured the industry for examples of retailers that boast attractive long-run growth opportunities. Read on to find out why Five Below (NASDAQ:FIVE), lululemon (NASDAQ:LULU), and Boot Barn (NYSE:BOOT) topped that list.

  • [By Jeremy Bowman]

Meanwhile, Under Armour’s rivals like Nike (NYSE:NKE), Adidas (NasdaqOTC: ADDYY), and lululemon athletica (NASDAQ:LULU) all performed well in the survey. Piper Jaffray found that Adidas was the fastest-growing brand in the survey, which follows Adidas’s recent stock surge and sales and profit growth. Its Originals, or classic sneakers, like the Stan Smith and the Superstar were especially popular last year. The Superstar, in fact, was the No. 1-selling sneaker last year, according to NPD Group, dethroning Nike for the first time in more than a decade.

  • [By John Ballard]

However, Nike’s core business is still selling sneakers. That’s not going to change, and that’s also why lululemon athletica (NASDAQ:LULU) should continue to do fine. Just as Nike has been successful turning a basketball shoe into a fashion statement, Lululemon has accomplished the same in athletic apparel. Both companies are really good at what they do best, and that will protect Lululemon’s competitive position from larger rivals.

Dollar General (DG) marked its 27th consecutive year of same-store sales growth in fiscal 2016. It followed this milestone up with a beat on both the top and bottom lines during its first quarter of 2017, with comps once again growing – but by only about 0.7%. As I was sifting through the retail carnage, Dollar General was one of the companies that stood out as above average, so I decided to take a closer look with this article.

The business

The company’s primary niche seems to come from its low cost operating structure. The majority of its stores are rural, with roughly 70% of them located in towns of 20,000 people or less. It constantly seeks ways to reduce (or at least control) costs that won’t affect the shopping experience for its customers, many of whom are primarily in a lower income bracket. This is exhibited by its low prices, where 80% of its stock-keeping units are set at $5 or less.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Watch Right Now

Seadrill (NYSE:SDRL), while sporting one of the youngest fleets in the industry, is hugely over-levered with $8.9B in net debt. By the middle of 2017, net debt/EBITDA will hit 7x, above its maximum level of 6.5x. SDRL previously amended this so there is likely no room left. The firm has $3.17B of debt due in the next 12 months and only $1.25B of cash on hand. If sponsors don’t contribute $1-2B in capital, the equity will need to be restructured.

Seadrill also has over $4B in capex due through 2019 and this includes 14 newbuilds that are being delivered. None are contracted yet, which hurts Seadrill specifically as well as drags down future industry dayrates. Furthermore, while operators like Diamond Offshore (NYSE:DO) have been investing in their fleet through this downturn, SDRL and Transocean (NYSE:RIG) have been cutting capex to the bone. That leaves them in weaker competitive position once the cycle finally turns.

Why does the short opportunity exist? Value investors are focusing too heavily on P/NAV and historical trough multiples as a crutch rather than the future earnings power of the company. Trailing multiples (five-year to 10-year) are distorted as they are based on peak dayrates, which have been in free fall and will continue to decline unless supply is rapidly taken off the market. At current prices (just north of $3), the stock is trading at a mid-double digit forward EBITDA multiple.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 seemed to benefit the most from news that the U.S., Mexico, and Canada had resolved their trade differences and come to a trilateral agreement, but the Nasdaq Composite lagged, and small-cap stocks posted substantial declines. Also hurting the overall market were some disturbing developments regarding some key companies. Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN), Akorn (NASDAQ:AKRX), and Cal-Maine Foods (NASDAQ:CALM) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.
