Hot Medical Stocks To Watch Right Now

Seemingly nothing can stop the marijuana industry, or marijuana stocks, at the moment.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve witnessed a number of major milestones for the cannabis industry. For example, in 2012, Colorado and Washington became the first states where a majority of voters legalized the sale of recreational marijuana to adults ages 21 and up. Since then, an additional six states have joined in. The rapid growth in legal recreational weed sales is what helped push Colorado well over the $1 billion total legal sales mark (medical plus recreational) by the end of October in 2016. Comparatively, legal sales only hit $996.2 million in 2015.

Another interesting milestone involves Ohio and Pennsylvania. The legislatures of both states wound up legalizing medical marijuana in 2016, which could pave a path for other legislatures to save time and follow their lead.

Hot Value Stocks To Own For 2018: Acacia Communications, Inc. (ACIA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Until it’s lifted, the ban stands to impact everyone from optical component/module suppliers such as Acacia Communications (ACIA)  and Oclaro to telecom/networking chip suppliers such as Cavium (CAVM)  and Xilinx (XLNX) to mobile chip suppliers such as Qualcomm (QCOM)  and Skyworks (SWKS) . Some of the damage will, of course, be offset by share losses ZTE is likely to see on account of the ban. This could particularly hold for mobile suppliers, given that the ban could prevent ZTE from shipping phones running Alphabet/Google’s (GOOGL) version of Android.

Best Heal Care Stocks To Own Right Now

“When pigs fly” is a centuries old Scottish saying meaning something will never happen. Some are of the belief that currently Rite Aid (RAD) is a wounded and grounded pig that will never recover to fly again. Pigs have a hard time flying because they don’t have wings. However, almost all animals with wings do indeed fly, so therefore, if a pig had wings it could fly.

The most famous mythical winged animal of all is the flying horse known as Pegasus from Roman mythology. There is another flying mythical creature named Pigasus, the embodiment of a winged pig, first described by R. Thompson as a character in one of the Oz books, Pirates In Oz, written in the 1930s. Pigasus took to flight with riders who were magically compelled to speak in rhyming jingles. Just as Pigasus would fly riders to the sky, so will Rite Aid take to flight all those who are not frozen in fright to a greater height.

Top 10 Medical Stocks To Own Right Now: Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc(VRX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) dropped about 6% Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $8.92 after closing Monday at $9.48. The stock’s 52-week high is $38.50. Volume of around 20 million shares was about 12 times the daily average of around 1.7 million. The company had no specific news Tuesday.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) dropped about 2% Friday to post a new 52-week low of $9.44 after closing Thursday at $9.63. The stock’s 52-week high is $38.50. Volume of nearly 15 million shares was about 25% below the daily average of around 19.5 million. The stock is on track to post a gain of around 0.5% for the day following an offer from Fresenius SE to acquire Akorn. Barron’s suggests that investors must believe there’s a buyer for anything, so why not Valeant?

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

We noted earlier that Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX) has popped today after selling assets for more than $2 billion, beginning what many expect to be just the first round of such sales. BMO’s Gary Nachman notes that Valeant had received “a solid price” for its assets. He explains:

The first transaction is the sale of Dendreon (Provenge) to Sanpower Group for $820mn in cash. Provenge is a treatment for prostate cancer and is not core to Valeant; thus, we are not surprised by this asset sale. We estimate Provenge sales of $306mn for 2016, which translates to a multiple of ~2.7x.Valeant has been struggling to accelerate Provenge since it acquired the product, and given that the company does not have a real oncology presence we think this deal makes a lot of sense.

The second transaction is the sale of CeraVe, AcneFree and AMBI to L’Oreal for $1.3bn in cash. These products are OTC skincare brands that we believe are core to Valeant’s dermatology/OTC business; thus, this deal is more surprising to us. However, with annual combined sales for the three products of $168mn, that translates to a multiple of ~7.7x. We think that is a good price and demonstrates Valeant’s willingness to part with some core assets if the valuation makes sense. We view that as a smart business decision given the urgency forValeant to pay down its significant $30bn debt level more aggressively…

There is still more to go with asset sales, but we view this as a good start for Valeant.

Shares of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International have gained 5.5% to $16.19 at 2:02 p.m. today. That’s a solid gain, but less thanthe 12% rise in pre-open trading, and the 8.8% rise at 10:27 a.m.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) dropped about 0.1% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $9.49 after closing Wednesday at $9.50. The stock’s 52-week high is $38.50.
