stock market usa

By Christopher Armes

This is the first in a short series of articles that I will publish over the next several weeks in which I assess stocks within the oil and gas sector, from Houston-based Conoco Phillips (NYSE:COP) to Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM). Shares of E&P companies have largely trended downward in lockstep with depressed commodities prices dating back to 2014 and have significantly underperformed almost all other sectors. Shares of these companies are on average currently sitting nearly 20% below their respective 52-week highs. But, with fresh OPEC production cuts in place through early next year and record predictions for summer driving in the U.S., is now the time to “buy the dip” on an E&P energy company?

stock market usa: FORM Holdings (FH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Looking for a quick, money-making trading idea? Put FORM Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ:FH) on your watchlist, if not yet in your portfolio. FH shares are knocking on the door of a breakout move, and one more nudge could do the trick.

There are a couple of factors in play here. One of the is the converging wedge pattern that’s developed after the October-December finally stabilized. The upper boundary of that wedge at $2.40 has been tested several times since late last year, but FORM Holdings could never get past the hurdle. At the same time, several key moving average lines seem to be acting as support — even if unevenly — keeping FH positioned well for a breakout effort.

Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Thanksgiving is almost here and aside from featuring a turkey, most Thanksgiving dinners will include items from a range of consumer stocks including Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB), Kraft Heinz Co (NASDAQ: KHC), Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc (NYSE: FDP) and McCormick & Company (NYSE: MKC) along with aThanksgiving turkey from Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL)or Seaboard Corporation (NYSEAMEX: SEB). According tothe American Farm Bureau Federation,a classic Thanksgiving dinner will cost$49.87 for a gathering of 10 orjust under $5 per person down from 2015s all-time high of $50.11.

Thanksgiving is almost here but the exit of both Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation (NYSE: PPC) and Smithfield Foods (NYSE: SFD) to focus on their chicken or pork businesses (the latter was also acquired by the Chinese) leaves just two big Thanksgiving turkey stocks, Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) and Seaboard Corporation (NYSEAMEX: SEB), for investors to consider. According to the American Far Bureau, a 16-pound turkey will (on average) come in at a total of $22.74 this year or roughly $1.42 per pound for a decrease of 2 cents per pound or a total of 30 cents per whole turkey, compared to 2015. The price drop may be a transition back to the norm as the significant bird flu outbreak last year hurt the nations supply of both turkey and eggs.
