reconciliations In addition to presenting State Streets financial results in conformity with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP, management also presents results on a non-GAAP, or "operating" basis, as it believes that this presentation supports meaningful analysis and comparisons of trends with respect to State Streets normal ongoing business operations from period to period, as well as additional information (such as capital ratios calculated under regulatory standards scheduled to be effective in the future or other standards) that management uses in evaluating State Streets business and activities. Management believes that operating-basis financial information, which excludes the impact of revenue and expenses outside of State Street's normal course of business (such as acquisition and restructuring charges), facilitates an investor's understanding and analysis of State Street's underlying financial performance and trends in addition tofinancial information prepared and reported in conformity with GAAP. Excluding the impact of revenue and expenses outside of State Streets normal course of business (such as acquisition and restructuring charges) provides additional insight into our underlying margin and profitability.
