This is not an April Fool’s joke.

If you are counting on Public Service Loan Forgiveness – the federal program that forgives your student loan debt after 10 years of qualifying work in public service and 120 consecutive student loan payments – then pay close attention.

As first reported by the New York Times, a student loan borrower’s acceptance into a federal student loan forgiveness program may not be binding and could be rescinded by the U.S. Department of Education.

In a legal filing March 23, the Education Department said that student loan borrowers could not rely on the approval letters sent by the program’s administrator, FedLoan Servicing, because any approvals are considered tentative.

Four student loan borrowers (and the American Bar Association) sued the Education Department to seek reinstatement of their eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. The plaintiffs claim they initially qualified for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, only to have the decision subsequently reversed.

china stock market: Cannabis Science, Inc. (CBIS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Look out Cannabis Science Inc (OTCMKTS:CBIS), and step aside Medical Marijuana Inc (OTCMKTS:MJNA). There’s a new cannabis name on the scene…. Algae Dynamics Corp. (OTCMKTS:ADYNF). It may not be known (or named) like its marijuana peers, but give it time. This small cap company has a very big idea, and it’s going to sprout soon.

Yes, Algae Dynamics is an algae company. It’s not just an algae company though.

Algae Dynamics is the owner of the proprietary BioSilo ™ process. BioSilo is a way of growing algae quickly and effectively…. a mix of an open-pond system and a photobioreactor, which is a light-driven approach to growing algae. It can be viewed as a “best of both worlds” approach, lowering the typical cost of algae farming, while the modular design makes it easy to maintain.

The company could go a lot of directions with the technology, Most of the tens of thousands of species of algae are rather flexible in how they can be purposed, and what they can become. Algae Dynamics is first focused on the development of two kinds of products though…. Chlorella, and Omega-3.

Chlorella is a type of microalgae that can be processed into a consumable powder by drying it until it takes a powder form, similar to coffee. Chlorella is rich in minerals, prebiotics, vitamins, and other nutritional substances. It can be added to a baked goods and a number of other products, or taken as a supplement on its own. Chlorella is used in over 1,000 products in the food and beverage markets. Algae Dynamics estimates the global Chlorella market was $210.3 million in 2014 and is expected to reach $265.5 million in 2018.

Despite a market for Chlorella in North America, there are no commercial North American producers of it.

Due to its health benefits, Omega-3 oil can be added to a very wide range of products. Consumers are increasingly aware of these benefits too, leading to substantial growth in the industry; health supplements compr

A long term performance chart shows GW Pharmaceuticals PLC outperforming other marijuana stocks like Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: ZYNE), Cannabis Science Inc (OTCMKTS: CBIS) and Medical Marijuana Inc (OTCMKTS: MJNA), but shares are also once again falling off from all-time highs:

china stock market: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft (BAYRY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Rivaroxaban was initially developed by Janssen, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ). It later entered an agreement with Bayer (OTCPK:BAYRY) to jointly complete the development process in 2005.

As the graphic below shows, ImmunoGen’s product pipeline is potentially significant. Furthermore, it is impressive to see the involvement and partnerships in these early stage compounds by some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies. This includes firms like Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN), Roche (OTCQX:RHHBY), Bayer (OTCPK:BAYRY), Sanofi (NYSE:SNY), Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY), and Novartis (NYSE:NVS).

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

You can torture the data many ways, of course, and there were some pharma price increases in the US, but apparently, they were not especially large. What hurt were discounting, especially for Xarelto, a Bayer (OTCPK:BAYRY) oral anticoagulant which JNJ markets in the US; and the diabetes Invokana line.

Nektar Therapeutics is working with Bayer AG (NASDAQOTH:BAYRY) on an inhaledversion of Amikacin, an anti-bacterial that if successful in trials could be used alongside standard of care to treat gram-negative pneumonia in intubated and mechanically ventilated patients. If it’s eventually approved in the U.S., Nektar Therapeutics will receive a flat 30% royalty on sales. It’s also working with Bayer on an inhaled powder formulation of Cipro that could be used to treat chronic lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients. Top-line phase 3 results on both drugs should be available this year.

This type of spin-off is not uncommon among German companies, as they streamline their portfolios to focus on the where they have more competitive advantages in the long term. For instance, in the recent past, Siemens (OTCPK:SIEGY) has split out Osram (OTC:OSAGY) and Bayer (OTCPK:BAYRY) has performed the spin-off of Covestro (OTCPK:CVXTY), something that Rheinmetall is likely to do in the near future because its auto unit has reached peak margins, and therefore this is the best time to spin-off the business.

china stock market: Las Vegas Sands Corp.(LVS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Travis Hoium]

But Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) may not have had as strong a quarter as competitors like Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd (NASDAQ:MPEL) and Wynn Resorts, Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN). We’ll have to wait until the latter two report earnings to see how market share is trending, but Las Vegas Sands left a lot to be desired from a growth perspective.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has declined 1.1% to $58.60 despite beating earnings forecasts.

O’Reilly Automotive (ORLY) has fallen 2.7% to $257.99 after missing earnings forecasts and lowering full-year guidance.

  • [By Rich Duprey]

The big casinos certainly want to spend big. Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) says a new integrated resort in Japan will cost anywhere from $6 billion to $10 billion, two to three times more than it spent on building its brand new French-themed Parisian resort in Macau. MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) says it, too, could spend $10 billion for a new casino in Japan, quadruple the cost of its MGM Cotai that’s scheduled to open later this year. Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) hasn’t put a price tag on it yet, though it spent over $4 billion to open the Palace in Macau last August, but CEO Steve Wynn says the opportunity is “thoroughly delicious.”

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Wynn wasn’t the only Macau casino operator that took it on the chin today. Las Vegas Sands (LVS) tumbled 13% to $54.67, while Melco Crown Entertainment (MPEL) plunged 14% to $16.87, and MGM Resorts International (MGM) dropped 4.3% to $28.65.

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

Cramer recalled how, in 2009, colleague Dan Fitzpatrick correctly identified Las Vegas Sands (LVS) as it broke out of its $10 a share funk and soared to $48, almost in a straight line. This technical move was brought on by Sands’ red-hot properties in Macau.

china stock market: Federated Investors, Inc.(FII)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Gregg Greenberg]

Stocks of Federated Investors (FII) fell approximately 9% in 2015, yet Oja expects a big turnaround in 2016, once again due to the prospect of higher rates ahead.

"The money market fund business, which is unprofitable now, should become more profitable as rates rise because Federated has to reimburse for the servicing fees for these funds," said Oja, who also admires the fund company’s 3.5% dividend yield.

Oja added that Federated also has a "good core business of equity and fixed-income asset management."
