Outcome Health Co-Founder & President Shradha Agarwal
I interviewed Shradha Agarwal, the co-founder and president of Outcome Health, the Chicago-based healthcare technology company that earlier this year raised $500 million from investors such as Goldman Sachs and Google at a $5 billion valuation.
Founded in 2006, Outcome Health is building the worlds largest platform for actionable health intelligence at the moment of care.
Today, Outcome Healths platform has a presence in almost 20% of doctors offices in the United States, and impacts more than 580 million patient visits each year.
In our wide-ranging interview, Shradha and I discuss, among other topics, how to transform an idea into a company, the difference between a good idea and a good company, the future of healthcare, what she learned from failure, her favorite business books, where to find the best Chicago pizza, and whether the Cubs can repeat as World Series champions.

Companies in the oil storage business can take advantage of what is known as contango, which is when forward prices are higher than current prices, allowing the purchase of cheap oil to be stored and sold at a later date while securing income using derivatives. Five companies that appear to be in a good position to take advantage of reduced oil storage capacity are Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE: MMP), Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE: EDP), Spectra Energy Partners (NYSE: SEP), Buckeye Partners (NYSE: BPL) and EQT Midstream Partners (NYSE: EQM).

Not only does Jana consider the deal price overvalued, but it looks to redirect EQT’s focus to a breakup of pipeline operations to transform the core company into an exploration & production firm. The pipelines already trade publicly under EQT Midstream Partners LP (NYSE: EQM) and EQT GP Holdings LP (NYSE: EQGP).

What a year 2016 was for Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) shareholders. The stock plunged over 50% last year, as its multiyear run of accelerating 20%-30% growth rates ground to a halt. The story changed from that of a high-growth technology company riding the secular trend of exploding data and bandwidth needs to one of stagnating revenues, profits turning to losses, increased competition, and end customers pausing investments in optical networks.
- [By Tracey Ryniec]
Infinera isn’t in a glamorous part of the technology business, as it provides fiber optic connection gear, but as companies like Amazon and Facebook need and use ever more data, it’s Infinera which paves the way. Earnings are expected to grow 31% in 2016.

Infinera Corp. (NASDAQ: INFN) shares were also up, gaining 27 percent to $11.92 after the company reported stronger-than-expected Q4 results.

Shares of Innoviva (NASDAQ:INVA), a biotechnology royalty company that develops respiratory therapeutics and is perhaps best known as GlaxoSmithKline’s (NYSE:GSK) development partner for its multiple next-generation COPD and asthma products, fell as much as 11% on Thursday. The reason behind Innoviva’s bad day can be traced to a proxy battle with activist hedge fund Sarissa Capital Management over seats on its board.

Also, like in hepatitis C, competitors are attempting to win away market share. For example,ViiV Healthcare, a joint venture spearheaded by GlaxoSmithKline(NYSE:GSK), is actively pursuing new HIV therapies that could make it more difficult for Gilead Sciences to maintain its market share dominance. In December, ViiV announced that a single tablet, two-drug combination that includes Johnson & Johnson’s Edurant met its primary endpoint in phase 3 studies. A filing for FDA approval is slated for this year.
