Small cap security and storage solutions stock Barracuda Networks Inc (NYSE: CUDA) reported fiscal Q2 2018 earnings after the market closed Tuesday that were largely in-line, but shares are falling more than 6% in afterhours/premarket trading. Q2 total revenue grew 7% to $94.3 million as subscription revenue grew 14% to $76.0 million representing 81% of total revenue while appliance revenue was $18.3 million versus $21.0 million. GAAP net income was $1.6 million versus GAAP net income of $2.4 million. The CEO commented:
“We delivered a strong second quarter achieving core billings growth of 22% year-over-year and gross billings of $108.5 million, which was above our guidance. Our performance was driven by continued traction in the areas of the market where we have been investing, especially email and public cloud security, and we are pleased to see that our efforts are generating stronger top-line results. Excluding non-core billings, we have generated four consecutive quarters of double-digit billings growth. We believe we have the right strategy in place, are focused on the right areas of the market, and provide innovative security solutions that are affordable and consumable in the form that is best suited for our customers’ needs.”

Net revenues from product sales were $64.8 million versus$61.9 million and net revenues from service and others were $7.9 million versus $5.4 million in the same quarter of 2016. As a percentage of net revenues, service and others accounted for 10.9% during the first quarter of 2017. Total orders of product sales were 1.6 million for the first quarter of 2017 versus1.7 million in the same quarter of 2016 while the total number of product sales customers was 1.2 million versus 1.4 million.
