&l;p class=&q;tweet_line&q;&g;The notion that August 22 marks the longest bull market history is meaningless. Since the S&a;amp;P 500 bottomed on March 9, 2009 there has been four bull markets followed by four corrections.

For this analysis I will focus on the S&a;amp;P 500, which set a &a;lsquo;panic low&a;rsquo; of 666.79 on March 9, 2009. Those of you who have been reading my analysis over the last 30-plus years know that I was pounding the table looking for a 20% to 40% rally from that low. This first bull market peaked at 1,217.28 during the week of April 23, 2010 for a bull market of 82.6%.

By definition a bull market ends with a correction of 10% or more. During the week of July 2, 2010, the S&a;amp;P 500 declined by 16.9% to 1,010.91.

If that line holds true, this emerging space should be able to support multiple new drugs, meaning that the current leaders in the field — Intercept Pharmceuticals (NASDAQ:ICPT) and Genfit — probably won’t be able to monopolize the market before other competitors like Viking get their drugs past the FDA. In fact, this market is so large it could feasibly support several blockbuster level products.

Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ICPT) shares jumped on Tuesday after the firm announced results for its Phase 3 Regenerate study of obeticholic acid (OCA) in patients with liver fibrosis due to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

  • [By George Budwell]

Shares of Intercept Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ICPT) rose by as much as 17% on above-average volume Monday. The spark?

The drugmaker’s shares were responding positively to back-to-back upgrades from analysts at Goldman Sachs and Wedbush on Monday. For instance, Goldman’s Salveen Richter upgraded Intercept’s shares from a sell to a buy rating, and hiked the firm’s 12-month price target from $46 to $157 a share. Wedbush, on the other hand, doled out a $217 price target on the stock Monday morning. Wedbush’s noteworthy price target implies a monstrous 126% upside potential from where Intercept’s shares closed last week.

However, neither of these companies may be the first to win an FDA OK in the indication. Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) and Intercept (NASDAQ:ICPT) are already conducting phase 3 trials of their respective NASH drugs, and each of them expects to report data that could lead to an FDA filing for approval in 2019. Gilead Sciences plans to report data for selonsertib, an apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) inhibitor that seeks to reduce ASK1 activity to curb liver inflammation and scarring, and Intercept plans to report data for Ocaliva, a semisynthetic bile acid analogue FXR agonist that’s already FDA-approved for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC).

The firm also topped revenue expectations and issued a full-year forecast in line with analysts’ expectations. Is JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon going to run against President Donald Trump in 2020? Some are speculating after Dimon said Wednesday that he could beat Trump because he is “smarter” than the president. Dimon also took at a shot at the original source of Trump’s wealth. “And by the way this wealthy New Yorker actually earned his money,” Dimon said. “It wasn’t a gift from daddy.” Shares of Apple Inc. Best High Tech Stocks To Invest In Right Now: C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc.(CHRW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Asit Sharma]

Landstar is benefiting, of course, from tight capacity in the freight truck market. As I noted last month, John Wiehoff, CFO of fellow 3PL provider C.H. Robinson Worldwide (NASDAQ:CHRW), recently gave an informative rundown of the factors contributing to the utilization of supply in the trucking market. These include an expanding U.S. economy, a shrinking pool of skilled truck drivers, rising e-commerce related shipping demand, and the recently implemented “ELD” (electronic logging device) regulations mandated by Congress. ELD seeks to make trucking safer through the implementation of advanced monitoring of the hours truck drivers log.
