If you’ve been racking your brain about where to retire on a budget, it might be time to think outside the U.S.
A new report by International Living, which publishes information about living abroad, ranks the five best places to retire and coast on $30,000 a year.
To be sure, retiring in a new country will require studying up on the tax implications along with pulling off some other logistical maneuvering.
But for many older Americans the work will be well worth finding a new, affordable place to spend their golden years.
The average monthly Social Security check is $1,404, and more than 40 percent of single adults receive more than 90 percent of their income from that check, according to the government.
Here are the cities where that check will go far, according to International Living.

Galectin Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: GALT) rose 7.3 percent to $3.70 in pre-market trading.
Riot Blockchain, Inc. (NASDAQ: RIOT) shares rose 6.9 percent to $7.00 in pre-market trading after declining 1.50 percent on Monday.
Hallmark Financial Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: HALL) rose 6.5 percent to $10.68 in pre-market trading.
Boot Barn Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BOOT) rose 5.2 percent to $20.40 in pre-market trading after gaining 4.53 percent on Monday.
New Oriental Education & Technology Group Inc. (NYSE: EDU) rose 5 percent to $91.16 in pre-market trading after reporting Q3 results.
Shire plc (NASDAQ: SHPG) rose 5 percent to $167.98 in pre-market trading after Bloomberg reported that Takeda is nearing a preliminary agreement to acquire Shire after sweetened bid.
Outfront Media Inc. (NYSE: OUT) shares rose 5 percent to $19.00 in pre-market trading.
Geron Corporation (NASDAQ: GERN) rose 4.3 percent to $4.18 in pre-market trading after gaining 5.80 percent on Monday.
SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) rose 3.7 percent to $109.80 in pre-market trading after the company posted strong quarterly results and raised its outlook for the year.
Golden Ocean Group Limited (NASDAQ: GOGL) shares rose 3.7 percent to $8.70 in pre-market trading after gaining 1.45 percent on Monday.

That’s the case for Sunoco (NYSE: SUN). After posting a net loss of $0.09 per share in 2017, the gas station owner is expected to swing to a hefty profit of $2.35 per share in 2018. But of the 14 analysts who follow the company, earnings estimates range as low as $1.22 and as high as $3.35 — so there is a high degree of uncertainty.

However, he did rule out the possibility that the company would also roll up its other MLP Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN). He said that “we’re very pleased with what we’re seeing at SUN as far as the growth that they will be directing that MLP into. And as you know, SUN is younger in the IDR life.” Because of that “for the reasonable future, we don’t see that being rolled up.”

Around this time last year, Sunoco LP (NYSE:SUN) announced a transformative divestment. The sale of its extensive retail filling station network to convenience store specialist 7-Eleven was going to give management the cash it needed to clean up its balance sheet and provide it with a much more stable revenue source. One would have assumed that when the company made this transaction, Wall Street would reward the stock with a higher valuation. That hasn’t been the case, though, as Sunoco’s stock is still languishing with a sky-high distribution yield north of 12%.
